AN: Hello! This story used to be known as "From Darkness I Rise" but I decided I didn't quite like where it was going and have decided to rewrite the story. I hope you enjoy!

She stumbled as she landed on the tree branch, her face twisted into a grimace behind her mask as pain burned in her chest, but the ice-cold fear that shot up through her body kept her going on. She had to lead them away, she had to. But how she didn't know, and there sure as hell wasn't going to be anyone coming back for her.

Bullets shot up through the branches of the dead trees like some twisted version of rain, except it was bullets coming up at her; some of them hit her and lodged into her already tiring limbs, others were just grazes that caused blood to start leaking through her clothes. She tumbled from the branch she was jumping from, and barely managed to grab ahold of another before the old, dead, irradiated wood broke under the sudden pressure and sent her tumbling down to her pursuers below. Perhaps she would have survived if there hadn't been waves of pain rolling out from her chest and burning her veins, but there was and she fell.

The landing sucked, the air wooshed out of her lungs and she could feel her ribs and legs snap from the force, puncturing her lungs and making running no longer an option. Her breathing was ragged and uneven and it was getting harder and harder to stay conscious, her vision kept flickering in and out of focus and darkness flashed across her sight like a piece of fabric flaps in the wind. But she could see the boots come closer to her face before they stopped and the body that the boots bent down, and she could feel the cool of the barrel of the gun as it pressed against her face. And she could feel the laughing of the other men who had also entered the clearing.

Unfortunately for them, her prosthetic arm was undamaged and underneath her body. Allowing her to reach for a grenade without drawing attention to her movements. She waited until the buzzing noise of the ass-hats had drawn close and then she tossed the grenade as far as she could at the last minute, it didn't make it very far but the resulting explosion erased all the life from the clearing.

Unfortunately, the burning didn't go away.
