Chapter One:

Jane was sitting on a bench im the beautiful courtyard in Auradon. She was busy looking at two little birds playing in the birdbath next to her. I wish I could be in love like that someday. She thought. To soon, however, her thoughts were interrupted by Rupunzel's daughter, accompanied by her two other friends. Aliza wasn't at ALL what you'd think a daughter of a kind, beautiful woman would be. Jane was never too fond of this girl, in fact, she hated her. She was bratty and mean, the exact opposite of her mother. Aliza walked up and towered over Jane, her shadow blocking the beauty around her. "Hey, Janie-Wainy." The girl sneered. "Uh, hi, Aliza." Jane stuttered, looking down. "Heard you got into the yearbook for the year. Probably because your mom is the school headmistress." Jane fittled with her baby-blue braclet. "I know I could have done way better." "Just leave me alone." Jane looked up at Aliza, forcing her best mean face. "Or what?" Aliza laughed. Then she grabbed Jane's beaded bracelet off her wrist and threw it into the woods behind her. "Hey!" Jane yelled. "Well, girls, looks like our job here is done." Her and her friends laughed wickedly, and strutted off. Jane fought back tears. That was her grandmother's bracelet. The one she promised her that she would never lose it. And it was gone.

Little did she know, Carlos was walking up behind her. "Hey, Jane." Jane jumped in her seat, looking over her shoulder. "Oh, sorry, I-I didn't mean to scare you." Carlos stuttered, sitting next to Jane. "H-hey, Carlos." Jane said, looking up at him. "I uh, saw what Aliza did." Jane let a tear slip onto her cheek. "You saw that?"

Carlos looked down. "Yeah." Jane's tears slid down her face. "Hey, look, i'm sorry if I made you cry." Carlos said, worried. Jane shook her head. "No, no, it's not you. It's just-that was my grandmothers bracelet, and I-I promised her that i wouldn't ever lose it, or give it up. Now..." Jane's sadness got the better of her. Her head drooped, and she put her head on Carlos' chest. Carlos did not know what to do, so he just wrapped his arms around her shaking body. "Hey, it's ok..." Carlos started thinking. Then, he got an idea. "Hey." He said, pulling her up. "Maybe we can go look for it tonight. After school. I could use Evie's mirror?" "Jane wipes the tears off her face with her arm. "You really would do that?" She smiled.

"Yeah, sure."

"Oh, thank you, Carlos!" She hugged him tightly. Wow, thought Jane, Carlos doesn't really seem like a villain at all. He's...so nice. He'd do anything if it meant helping another.
