Half Breed Ch. 1 The lodge
~.~.~
Anya, an American Irish woman, porcelain skin, ginger hair with waves that flicker like fire in the sun. Her face is laced with light copper freckles around her nose and just under her grey eyes. Her nose is small with a tinge if pink on the tip making her look like she's constantly cold or blushing which adds to the beauty of her smile. Her lips a soft pink color that adds to her round and soft face. A perfect Irish look for a 5,4 gal, shirt with ginger temper, and enough fight in such a small body to conquer just about anything.
And here she was on a ski car being taken up the cable to the lodge where she'd being staying in her own cabin.
There were other cabins on top the mountain, five private lodges side by side and then one main lodge to the left of the cable car just up a pathway that led to the lodge where the rangers and grounds crew stayed. To the right of the cable car was where the private lodges were, each complete with a sauna and laundry room off to the right side of each cabin.
Looking at the catalog in her hand Anya thought, pricy indeed and so much better than the ranch house last trip!
This time she didn't have to pay her way to stay a week somewhere. Her agency where she sells her camera footage and narrates her stores paid for it since from the news broadcast that was shown of the accident seemed more than promising of great material.
The cable car stops and the man operating it pulls the brake on the cable car and opens the sliding door. He adjusts his red snow jack and lowers his beanie to keep warm and asks, "Would you like me to take one of you bags?"
Being misses strong and independent Anya smirked and said, "No thanks but you can show me to my cabin." She really wasn't trying to be a bitch but instead she was always so rugged and acted tough because of how hard she had to fight to land her job she has. The one job she always wanted.
The man nods and lets out a chuckle, "Okay then." He steps out of the cable car and into the snow and waits for Anya to follow.
With her backpack and bed roll on her back she fastened the straps and made sure they were tight then she proceeded to pick up another duffel bag which contained her camera, writing paper, pencils, maps, tablet, you name it for a investigator it was in there. An office in a bag.
She huffed and she picked up all the weight in her right arm and pulled the strap over her head and into her left shoulder.
She walked out of the car and almost slipped in the icy snow but recovered and nodded at the man.
"Got all that?" He asked while he started walking.
Anya huffed and said, "You can make it easier by taking me to my cabin."
The guy chuckled again by the sight of the small gal holding what looked to be all of her belongings.
He did what he was told though and walked down the path in front of the cabins and stopped at the fifth one and turned towards it.
At this time Anya was quite tired from carrying everything and cursed that she had the last one on the end but hey maybe it was mean more privacy.
She followed the man up the three steps onto a small porch and walked into the front door. After she walked in the man was by the front door and closed it. He turned towards Anya and said, "The bedroom is to the left in the very back of the hall. To the right that door is the bathroom and to the left of the hall that sliding door is a closet for towels and whatever. Here in the main room you see the kitchen and dining area along with the living room."
Anya looked to where he was gesturing after she put down the duffel bag.
"Sunk in living room I like it." She commented.
The man pointed behind her and said, "And behind you there is a gas fireplace. No need to stoke the fire at night and there's a safety sensor in case there's a leak it won't light but it's brand new so all you have to do is turn the dial to the temperature you want and it lights."
Anya she shocked she got such a nice place instead of sharing a room with someone.
"That's awesome! Thank you-."
"Danny just Danny." He said waving at her and walking towards the door but stopping. He turned back before opening the door, " Is there anything you need before I head out?"
She thought for a moment then shook her head and said, "Nope I've got it but if I need anything or there's an emergency?"
Danny nodded understanding and pointed to a red phone on the counter by the kitchen and said, "Use that phone and dial #. It takes you to the front desk and a ranger usually answers."
"Okay thanks." Anya answered then Danny opened the door and walked out closing the door behind him.
Alone now Anya went towards the bedroom and put her backpack on the bed and went back for her duffel bag. On her way to her bag she lit the fireplace and set the temperature to 75• then grabbed her bag after marveling how the fire lit right up behind a fake log and glass.
She placed her duffel bag on the bed also and took her time to place clothes in the dresser to the left of the bed. On top of it was a lamp and Anya noticed that at the foot of the bed was a cushioned bench seat which had storage space under the lidded cushion. Other than that the room was fairly small and empty. The cabin itself was small, kinda like a single wide mobile home but way comfier.
.~.~.
After setting up her room and charging her camera and tablet, dinner and a shower Anya settled in the sauna across from the sunk in living room.
She sat on the bench and was enjoying the stream while she sat on her bath towel.
Letting the steam melt away the stress she left behind in the city she thought of a plan on how she wanted to go about searching for this Wendigo she heard about. She saw the photo but she was far from convinced just yet it was a real monster.
Best place to start would be to hike the back trails to the house. Cops won't let me into the site but I bet I can sneak in early if everything is clear. She thought to herself.
With a clear mind and lots of relaxing done Anya felt it was time to go to bed and get everything ready for her day tomorrow.
(Writers note:
This is an adventure, action, and kinda horror story with Eyeless Jack and all. The start may be slow but trust me I'm just working details and build up for my plot. Anyway thanks for reading!!!!)
