So this might be a slightly weird piece of fanfiction but I thought it would be fun to write about corona virus because it's currently affecting all of us in some way or another. I'm currently in quarantine so I should have lots of time to write and update frequently. Please review and feel free to leave any ideas you might want to see included in the story.
Disclaimer: Sadly I do not own glee :'(
Never before had anything so unusual, astonishing or of such great importance occured in the small town of Lima, Ohio. Rumours bounced aggressively around the choir room and emotions hung heavily in the air. Faces displayed every imaginable expression from fear to shock to joy to curiosity. It didn't take a genius to figure out something astounding had happened to completely alter these children's lives.
Each student had a different opinion on what was to come. Puck was convinced the government was secretly scheming to reduce the population so they could keep more money for themselves. Brittany was convinced it was the apocalypse and it had just arrived a little late because it was running behind schedule. Mercedes was quietly praying in the corner meanwhile Rachel appeared to be her polar opposite. She was stood on her chair screeching to anyone who would listen that the other teams were conspiring agaimst them and trying to scare them into dropping out of the competition since they knew they weren't as talented as she was. Kurt just rolled his eyes. By this point he had become well adjusted to his friends insanity.
"Quiet down," Mr. Schue ordered as he strode into the choir room. "From the noise you're making you'd think we were all about to die."
"Are you calling Lord Tubbington a liar?" Brittany looked like she was about to burst into tears. "He did tell that stray about the time I lost my nose and couldn't find it for a day but apart from that he's quite an honest cat."
"I-" Mr. Schue began, but luckily Kurt jumped in before he could make it any worse.
"Not to be rude, but Brittany does have a point. I'm not saying its the end of the world or the appocalypse but our lives could actually be at risk. We're probably safe in Lima but the corona virus could still cause a lot of damage."
Mr. Schue smiled, "And that's why we're going to sing about it." For the first time that day silence flooded the room. Everyone stared at Mr. Schue with eye's the size of saucers as they tried to figure out if he was being serious. It quickly became painfully apparent he was as he shifted uncomfortably from foot to foot under the intent stares of a roomful of children.
Rachel was the first to awaken from their collective stupor. "This is a serious matter, Mr. Schue," she insisted haughtily. "My voice could be impacted if I got corona and then we'd stand no chance at nationals."
Santana looked like she was about to murder someone and her laugh sent chills up everyone's back. "And let me guess, you're the only one here who's good enough to win us nationals?" her silky voice dripped with sarcasm as she spoke.
"Well we all know I'm the best singer." Rachel brushed some invisible dirt off her beige knee-length skirt and looked Santana dead in the eye. "It's why I always get the solos and you're stuck singing backup."
Santana lunged at Rachel with all the ferocity of a tiger. Puck and Finn grabbed her and pulled her away from Rachel who had almost toppled over backwards. It took every ounce of strength the two football players had to restrain Santana. "The only reason you get the solos is because you cry and winge like a little baby every time you don't get your way. You dress like one too. I wouldn't be surprised if your parents still bottle fed you. Do you still want to fight? Because you're forgetting I was born in Lima Heights Adjacent. I could smash that stupid beak of yours with ease; grind it to powder right between my fists. Then you really would need to eat from a bottle."
"Everybody stop," Mr. Schue shouted to be heard over the others. "Santana, sit down now." Santana stormed across the room and slumped in a chair as far from Rachel as possible. A grey cloud hung over her head threatening to electrocute anyone who bothered her. Brittany whispered something in her ear and the whole room tensed, waiting for her explode in another fit of rage. Nothing happened. She just sat there. In fact a few members of glee would have sworn a smile had flittered across her face if only for a trillionth of a second.
In an attempt to regain control that came much to late Mr. Schue pulled out a pen and began to write on the white board. "Your assignment for this week is illness."
"Urrrgh, Mr. Schue?" Finn said awkwardly. "Isn't that sort of sensitive to people who have a high risk of getting corona or whatever."
"Insensitive," Rachel corrected automatically. She had to do it so often it had become second nature.
Mr. Schue sighed and tapped his foot. "Lima's a small, remote town. The corona virus isn't going to effect any of us. We are going to be safe and we are going to do this as the assignment for the week. I don't want to hear any objections. Understood?"
Everyone nodded reluctantly except Kurt who clasped his hand over his mouth in shock. He gripped his phone so toghtly his knuckles turned the colour of death. "Please no," he spoke addressing no-one. "Please don't let anything bad have happened to him." He seemed to be pleading with the universe.
"Hell to the no! Tell us what it says Kurt," Mercedes demanded whilst grabbing Kurt's arm as he turned to leave the room. "Is your dad okay?"
"It's Blaine," he said solemnly. "Dalton's been closed due to a corona virus outbreak in the school."
