A Silver Lining

Chapter 1-Battle

May gritted her teeth, her fists were clenched. If she wasn't wearing her gloves, you would see her knuckles turning white. This was the final battle. Her last chance, at going to the Grand Festival, she just had to win that last ribbon.

Her opponent was the obstacle. She was a girl about her age, with long icy blue hair, and bluebell eyes that weren't like May's friend, Dawn's eyes, which were soft and full of excitement. Her Flareon was powerful, and elegant on its furry feet. While May used her Glaceon, elegant and graceful, yes, but weak against the fire-type Eeveelution.

One-minute left, her bar is ¾ still full, I have ¼ left! I have to turn this battle around. May thought.

"One-minute left! Crystal still holds the lead, how will the Princess of Hoenn turn this around?" Jillian, the Johto MC yelled in her mic. (Author's Note: Not Crystal from the manga, I thought the name was nice. But totally a different girl.)

"Alright Flareon." Crystal said while flipping her hair, "Let's end this with a bang! Overheat, full power!"

May knew the power of Overheat, her Blaziken used it many times and it was an extremely powerful move, Crystal hadn't used it yet so it would be powerful and knock out her Glaceon.

Without thinking, May yelled, "Quick Glaceon, use Ice Beam!"

Glaceon was weak and injured terribly, but she couldn't fail her trainer. She stood up and used ice beam, which was cancelled out quickly into sparkles and the Overheat took in Glaceon.

"Glaceon!" May yelled in concern. The Overheat was weakened a bit, but still gave a powerful blow.

"Time's up!" Jillian yelled, "And it looks like Glaceon is down and Crystal has won the Mahogany Ribbon, earning her the entry to the Grand Festival.

May fell on her knees, she looked at Glaceon who was on the ground lying down. She ran up to her and picked her up gently.

"Oh Glaceon, I'm so sorry. I failed you as a trainer, you did amazing." May said while rubbing her face in Glaceon's fur.

May looked at Crystal who had an ecstatic look as she picked up Flareon and spun her around.

"Come on, we're good sports right? Let's go congratulate them." May said and Glaceon mewed in agreement.

"Hey Crystal. You and Flareon were amazing, I wish you luck at the Grand Festival." May said happily as she went up to Crystal.

"Hm?" Crystal put Flareon down and said sweetly, "Thanks, now I totally saved you from humiliation, didn't I?"

"What do you mean?" May asked.

Crystal got up close and smirked, "Why at the Grand Festival, of course. You and Glaceon were so terrible today, you should be grateful that I'm taking your place so I will show better combinations that you could never do."

May gasped at how devious, this girl was. She was cruel and was smug as Harley was back in Hoenn.

Meanwhile, Flareon was the same as her trainer. "Pathetic, you are pathetic. You failed your trainer. Now what? Most likely is that she will abandon you, you failed her at the Wallace Cup when you lost to a rookie, and now, you practically threw the match. No one would ever want you." Flareon said directed towards Glaceon.

Glaceon gasped, and her eyes were filled with tears, as the other Eeveelution was right. May will abandon me, I'm such a terrible Pokémon. I can't stay. Glaceon thought.

"You are a pathetic Coordinator, you failed to everyone. Your family, your friends and to your Pokémon. You never had a chance." Crystal said seething.

May humped, took Glaceon and left the stage. "Glaceon, it's not your fault. It's mine. Return." May said as she took out Glaceon's Pokeball and shot the red beam at her. Glaceon dodged it but fell once it landed on her feet.

"I should take you to the Pokémon Center." May said as she picked up Glaceon and left the Contest Hall.

Drew was traveling to Mahogany Town, he lost track of time and hoped he was still able to see the contest. He knew that May was in the contest and wanted to make sure that she was doing okay.

He decided to stop by the Pokémon Center, to give his Pokémon a rest before he would sprint off to the Contest Hall.

He entered it to see who he was looking for. May who was giving Nurse Joy her Glaceon, which looked badly injured. Bruises, scratches, and burns. What had happened?

"Please take care of Glaceon, Nurse Joy." May said pleadingly to Nurse Joy.

"Don't worry May, I'll make sure that Glaceon will get better." Nurse Joy said. She put Glaceon and a stretcher and Chansey took her into the Intensive Care Unit.

May dropped down to one of the couches and sighed. She was running her thoughts a mile a minute, about what she did wrong, what Crystal said, and what everyone would think of her. She let down her family, her friends. She told them she would win the Grand Festival. And what would Drew think of her? Probably some pathetic wimp not worthy of being Drew's rival.

"Hey!" Drew yelled breaking May out of her thoughts.

Speak of the devil.

"Oh, hey Drew." May said as she put up a fake smile and waved.

"Well, how was the contest?" Drew asked.

"I don't really want to talk about it." May said as she brought her knees up to her chest.

"May." Drew said sternly, he sat down next to her, "You can tell me anything."

"I-I l-lost" May mumbled, but loud enough for Drew to hear.

"The contest? May…" Drew looked at her, and tears were threatening to come out.

"It's all my fault!" She said. She put her head down and started crying.

"I let Glaceon get hurt, I lost my chance to get to the Grand Festival, I'm nothing but a pathetic weak coordinator, who isn't worthy of being your rival. I let everyone down." May said in her knees and cried.

"May, none of it is your fault. In fact, you aren't pathetic or weak. You are so much more than that." Drew said comfortingly.

May pulled her head up and saw Drew's soft smile, it was times like this when she was glad Drew was comforting her rather than teasing her.

"Then what I am?" May asked.

"You're strong, caring, kind, and many more things" Drew said. Not to mention, extremely beautiful and perfect for me. He thought.

May smiled and rammed right into his chest. Hugging him tightly. "Thank you, Drew." She whispered. He wasn't one for physical contact, but anything for May. He wrapped his arms around her and put his face in her hair. It smelled of vanilla and cherries. "Anything for you, May." He whispered in her hair.

May sniffled a bit, and started crying again, into his chest.

"Are you crying again?" Drew asked a bit teasingly.

"Shut up Drew. We were having a nice moment." May mumbled into his chest. He chuckled and May could hear the loud rumble from the chuckle in his chest. It was soothing.

A loud growl came from May and she blushed in embarrassment. "Looks like someone is hungry." Drew said as he pulled away from May. He kept his hands on her forearms, which gave May a slightly more blush.

"Come on, let's go eat then!" May said as she came up from sitting and skipped her way to the Café.

When they got there, May immediately picked up a menu and looked through what she wanted.

"You two ready to order for drinks?" A waitress came up and asked them. She was a girl who looked a couple years older than them. Cinnamon colored hair put up in a bun and had hazel eyes with freckles scattered on her soft young face.

"Yes, I'll have a chocolate milkshake please!" May said excitedly.

"And you? Oh my Arceus! You're Drew Hayden!" The waitress said.

"Uh yes, that's right" Drew said.

"I am such a big fan; my name is Anna." Anna said.

"Nice to meet you." Drew said.

"Now then, what would you like to order for your drink?" She asked sweetly

"Black coffee, no sugar and no cream." Drew said simply.

"You got it!" She said with a wink and left to a different table.

"Seriously? Black coffee, no sugar or cream?" May asked, "That's ruining your taste buds."

"I happen to like the taste, thank you very much." Drew said while flicking his hair.

"Oh, Max is texting me." May said as she pulled out her PokeNav and read what he sent.

She tapped her fingers on the PokeNav screen quickly and put it away.

"Max was asking me if I was okay after what happened." She told Drew, "I said I was fine."

"Hm, well I guess anyone would want to see if you were okay after what happened." Drew said.

"I guess…I should tell you everything that happened." May said. She told him everything about her opponent, about how powerful she was, and how rude she was.

"May, there are people like that who try to be mean to try and bring you down." Drew said.

"Then how do I stop it, when everything they say is right?" May asked.

"Nothing they say is right. It's a bunch of bullshit. Listen, they want to be higher than you, you just have to show them who you are. Princess of Hoenn." Drew said with a smirk when he said May's media name.

"I'm still not used to everyone calling me that." May said.

"You'll get used to it, I used to be called the Prince of Hoenn." Drew said, which he regretted later saying that to May. "Pathetic reporters trying to get attention." He mumbled.

May giggled. "Prince of Hoenn? That's new one, if anything you sure can act like an arrogant one."

"Of course, I'm a prince, "Drew said and flicked his hair, "I'm handsome, charming, and"

May cut off by saying in a singsong way "And you're arrogant, egoistic, and an annoying Grasshead who dresses terribly."

"Don't bring my hair and my outfit into this." Drew said angrily.

"I can if I want, Mr. Rose." May said with a smirk.

"Shut. Up." Drew said seriously.

May laughed, and Drew felt his heart beat really fast. She looks way too damn cute

"Oh my Mew, I needed that. Thanks for the laughs, Drew." May said still giggling.

"Here's your drinks!" Anna said, she had changed her hair to be let out and she was wearing red lipstick.

She gave Drew his coffee and she was going to give May her milkshake and instead purposely dropped it on May's outfit.

"Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry. I am such a klutz." Anna said as she ran away to get some napkins.

May could feel tears coming, she felt so embarrassed! Almost as embarrassed at the time with the Tentacools and Harley exposing her.

Drew noticed what the waitress did and got angry. He always hated it when his fangirls had did mean stuff just to get his attention. They had hurt May, and he wanted no one to hurt his May.

"We'll be leaving now." Drew said as he took May's arm and pulled her out of the café.

Anna looked at them angrily, She always have to ruin everything, huh?

"What happened?" asked a figure in the shadows in the backroom as Anna entered there.

"I dropped her drink of her, like you said and he took her and left. I was told that she would run away in embarrassment and Drew would laugh at her!" Anna said.

"Looks like I was wrong, I will deal with this at the Grand Festival." The figure said and walked past Anna.

"Are you okay May?" He asked as she sat down on her bed with tears in her eyes. He had took her card from her fanny bag, she was too in shock to do anything.

"No…I'm not." May whispered.

"It's so hard, being by myself. All alone, I felt so glad when you were there for me." May said.

"With Ash, Max and Brock, they were always there. No matter what. Now it's so hard, I feel like I can't do anything. I was also thinking that I'm going back to Petalburg. I think I should train with Dad on how to be a gym leader."

"There is no way you are going to do that." Drew said, he grabbed her shoulders and said, "A Gym Leader is not what you want. Go to the Grand Festival and watch it. It would help you be a better coordinator. And some people would be happy to see you there."

"I guess…" May said sadly.

"Go take a shower, I'll make you food instead of the Café." Drew said.

"Okay." May said as she went to her bathroom.

Drew went to the mini kitchen she had and decided to make something that makes May happy. She likes ramen, a whole lot. That could work. He found a pack of spicy ramen, he wasn't one for spicy things a whole lot, but unfortunately it was the only pack he could find. Just suck it up and be a man! He thought.

He grabbed a pot and boiled water in it. He broke apart the ramen and put the spice packet it. While he was cooking, May came out in her orange outfit with the green bandanna. (Author's Note: She wore something different before, okay?)

"Do I smell spicy ramen?" May asked.

Drew nodded and she ran over there, pushing Drew aside and sniffing it.

"Okay, you're going to drool all over it. Move aside so I can put some for you." Drew said.

May sat at her little table and waited patiently for the bowl of spicy ramen that would suffice her hunger.

Drew came with two bowls of ramen with chopsticks. May immediately grabbed her chopsticks and started eating her ramen.

"It's still so hot, how do you eat it like that?" Drew asked.

"It's called hunger, and you should be glad I didn't get to hangry level" May said.

Drew took a bite of the ramen; the spiciness burned his tongue and he swallowed it down.

"Drew, you don't look good." May said concerningly.

"Were there only spicy ramen packs?" May asked, he nodded and May knew what was wrong.

"You can't have spicy food that well, huh?" May asked, and he nodded.

"Drew, you should have told me." May said. "I can take it."

"No, you can't. If you don't want it, it's fine" May said. Drew pushed the bowl aside and May ate it instead.

"Oh, I should go see if Glaceon is okay. And I need to feed my Pokémon." May realized.

"I'll come with you, my Pokémon need to be fed as well." Drew said.

They left May's room and went down to see Nurse Joy rolling Glaceon out.

"Oh May, Glaceon is healed. Make sure she goes easy on her leg, change her bandages, and groom her carefully since the burns might hurt her." Nurse Joy said.

"Thank you so much." May thanked Nurse Joy. Glaceon was resting on the stretcher, her leg was bandaged up, and she still had some bruises and burns, but some of the bruises had faded away.

"Glaceon?" May whispered. She picked her up and held her carefully. "You must be hungry, let's get you fed.

May and Drew went outside to feed their Pokémon. Meanwhile….

"Harley, yes, well the milkshake didn't work but she won't be coming to the Grand Festival." The figure from before said.

"Excellent work, that little squirt won't be in my way of the Ribbon Cup now." Harley said in the phone.

"Ahem, you can't forget about me?" The figure said.

"And I'll make sure that Drew will be yours. Yes." Harley said.

"Great, I'll see you at the Grand Festival."

"Toodles Hun!" Harley said and ended the call.

"May won't be in our way, and Drew will be mine." The figure said.
