Here's a new Trolls one shot for your viewer's pleasure. As always, there will be Broppy shipping in this one shot ( Poppy x Branch ). Disclaimer- I do not own trolls, the song or the lyrics in any way or format today.
.It was a sunny summer day in Troll Village. There wasn't a cloud or a Cloud Guy in the sky, the birds were chirping a sweet song as they fluttered about. Every troll was just getting up and getting ready to start their day. That's where we find Queen Poppy, just getting out of bed in her cozy, little pod. She stretched to rid herself of any residing exhaustion in her body before opening up the window to greet the day. She basked in the warm sunshine, smiling just as bright as the sun shined. She headed towards the bathroom to make herself look presentable towards the other trolls. As queen, she needed to look her best towards the people. However, when she rid the mirror of morning fog, she was in for a "hair-raising" surprise. By that, I mean she saw that today, of all days, she was having a troll's worst nightmare: a bad hair day!!! However, this was unlike any bad hair days she's ever had. This...was even worse!! Tangles, knots, and a look that resembled a messed up spider web with thorns and sticks stuck to it. This...was the ultimate bad hair day!! So bad, Poppy let out a really loud shriek in terror at the sight of it. Her shout was heard by every troll in the village, including her group of friends known as the Snack Pack. Even Branch, in his deeply camouflaged and deep underground bunker, heard his girlfriend's cry of terror. With that, he climbed out at lightning speed and tried to get to her pod as fast as he could. Luckily, he made it just as the Snack Pack arrived as well as he asked,"What's going on? Is everything ok"? Biggie was the first to speak up, saying,"We don't know Branch!! I hope Poppy is ok." Smidge then added,"If there's a beast in there, I'll hair-punch it out of here in one swoop"!! Branch then responded with,"Whatever it is, let's just hope it's not too serious." Slowly, he knocked on the door, at first, no response whatsoever. Suddenly, the Snack Pack and Branch were pulled inside and the door locked behind them. Before they could even react, all they heard was the bathroom door slam shut and become locked. Branch, being the courageous troll he was / her boyfriend, knocked on the door first, saying,"Poppy? Are you ok in there? Is something wrong"? All he got as a response was,"Don't come in here!! I'm facing a huge crisis and I can't seem to get it under control"!! In the bathroom, Poppy felt really upset because she did not want anyone, especially her friends, to see this "mess" she was stuck with. Guy Diamond frowned while saying,"Poor Poppy. Whatever is wrong must be really bothering her."
DJ Suki decided to to try and talk to her as she knocked on the door, saying,"Hey Poppy. Can I come in? I wanna help. We all do." The trolls waited for an answer, unsure if it was good or bad. With a sigh, Poppy responded with,"Ok, you can come in, but you all first need to cover your eyes, that includes Mr. Dinkles too Biggie"!! With that, the Snack Pack covered their eyes, with Biggie doing Mr. Dink Dinkles's eyes as well as a frantic and nervous Poppy led them carefully into the bathroom. She shut and locked the door again before facing her friends, saying,"On three, uncover your eyes, but whatever you do, please try not to freak out so much." With agreeing nods from everyone, Poppy reluctantly counted to three slowly as everyone uncovered their eyes and became shocked at what they saw. Even though they kept their word on not freaking out, it was really hard to continue that. Poppy sighed while saying,"Now you see why I'm freaking out?! I woke up and I saw it like this and I can't do anything to fix this!! I've had bad hair days before, but never one like this"!! Seeing the sad look she had, her friends were determined to help Poppy as Branch placed a reassuring hand on his girlfriend's shoulder, saying,"It'll be alright. We'll figure this out together Poppy. Promise." They all headed out of the bathroom into the living room, trying to find a solution.
Lucky for them, Satin and Chenille had hair care products and supplies with them, just for situations like this. Laying everything out neatly along the floor, everyone debated on what to try first. Smidge was the first to suggest an idea, saying,"When I have an unruly tangle I can't manage with, I take them out by hitting a punching bag." However, everyone grew quite concerned of that idea, not wanting to cause any destruction whatsoever. Poppy was able to break the uncomfortable silence, saying,"Good idea Smidge, but...I don't thinking punching will really help the issue." Cooper then says,"How 'bout cupcakes? They usually solve every problem 'round here." Branch then said,"They solve "hunger" problems Cooper, not "hair" problems." Biggie then says,"Just spray water. That's what I do. That way, it stays down and the brush glides through like when Mr. Dinkles slides on ice," with Mr. Dinkles chirping in agreement. Poppy seemed to like the sound of that idea as she says,"That could work. But, I don't think a regular brush would help with some of these tangles and knots."
Satin also mentioned,"Instead of using a brush, it'd be better to use a thin-toothed comb." Chenille added,"It's better because it can help untangle knots and tight tangles found in your hair. Satin and I use combs all the time," with Satin finishing with,"and our hair is always smooth and tangle free." Poppy took note of that, making a reminder to get a comb for herself later on. Suki added,"I usually put a hair tie on the ends rather than on the bottom so it doesn't extend towards my eyes." While hearing these suggestions, Poppy then says,"Another issue I'm having is that somehow, my hair won't stay up like it normally does. Even my ponytail droops down when I tie it up. Not even gel keeps it standing up like it's supposed to." Branch inspected her magenta locks momentarily before noticing something off. Not in a bad way, but still. Suki, seeing this, then asked Satin and Chenille,"Can the length of a troll's hair influence how it's kept"? Smidge answered for them, saying,"I've heard that the longer the hair, the harder it is to keep it looking nice." An idea came into mind as she says,"I remember something about sometimes the weight of troll hair, depending on length, can make it harder to stand up right. Could that be why Poppy can't keep her hair upright"? That idea seemed logical as Branch pulled out a scrapbook and read it quickly, finding the answer right away. He smiled, saying,"Found it! According to this scrapbook, the length and amount of a troll's hair can influence its ability to stay upright and be well-kept. The longer it is, the harder it can be." Poppy looked through a hand mirror and could tell that they were right: her hair was long, a lot longer than before. No wonder it was a struggle to fix and maintain. Poppy felt bad and slightly embarrassed that she'd let this happen to her.
Branch could tell that Poppy was feeling bad as he cupped her cheek, saying,"You don't need to feel bad Poppy. It can happen to the best of us. I've been there, we've all been there, right guys," as all of her friends nodded in agreement. Cooper added,"No need to be sad Poppy. Even I've gone through this, and mine's shorter than the rest of y'all." Poppy felt a little better, and before she could respond, their hug time bracelets chimed as they all got into a group hug. After they separated, Poppy then asked,"So, now that we know how to fix the "tangled spider web" problem, how can we fix the "length" problem? I can't look like this forever"!! Biggie was able to calm her down, saying,"It's ok Poppy. We'll fix this. There's an easy fix to that problem." Branch intervened. saying,"First things first, let's deal with the tangles and knots. Satin, Chenille, if you can," as they got multiple spray bottles full of water and combs set, saying,"We got you covered." Branch then led charge, saying,"Everyone, grab a bottle and comb, find a section and get to work," as each member of the Snack Pack did as so. Poppy could feel the cold water hit her scalp and the multiple combs moving at different paces, untangling a lot of tangles and knots. Some of them were pretty tough and Poppy winced a couple of times in pain from the tugging of her hair during the untangling. Suki ran into a huge knot and was unsure of what to do, worrying she might hurt Poppy. Luckily, Branch was able to guide the DJ, telling her what to do and how to do it carefully. With his advice, the knot was carefully untangled and Poppy didn't feel as much pain as before. Before long, Poppy's hair was completely untangled and knot free. It still was hanging low from the weight and length of it and it was a little damp from the water, but it looked a lot better than before.
Poppy felt a lot better, knowing now, her hair did not resemble a huge mess or a tangled spider web. Biggie spoke up, saying,"Now, we're making progress. Feel better Poppy," as she nodded, saying,"A lot better. Thanks guys," as they all piled in their you're welcomes and no problems. Branch then says,"Now, we can take care of its length, which is quite easy. Where are your scrapbook supplies"? Poppy pointed to a box in the corner as he went looking for something while Poppy says,"I don't know why or how scrapbook supplies are going to help. Unless you wanna scrapbook this moment, then be my guest." Branch then found what he was looking for and says,"To help with the length of your hair, we're going to have to get...scrappy," while pulling out a pair of scissors and snipping them mid-air. Most of the Snack Pack gasped while Poppy just froze in shock before fainting onto the floor. Everyone backed up to give her room as Branch tried to awake her. Guy Diamond shot some glitter on her and that did the trick, awaking her in an instant. With everyone relieved that she was ok, Cooper sealed the moment by pooping out cupcakes and saying,"Now, we can get this party started"!! Poppy wasn't through yet as she shouted,"Is that a Growlbeast," making everyone turn their heads to see, only to find nothing. However, Poppy disappeared from the room by dashing out the door, running into the forest. That made them look back and see what occurred as Cooper says,"Dang! Poppy went into hide and seek mode"!! Guy Diamond adds,"We have to find her before she gets hurt or something worse happens"!! With that, they went out of the house and went to look for Poppy. However, she proved to be really hard to find, especially for Branch, who could identify any troll from a 20 inch radius. In a separate area of the forest, where a tall oak tree stood with a small hole on top, Poppy was hiding out there in the hole. She felt bad for hiding from her friends, but at the same time, really frightened. There was no way in Troll Heaven was she going to let ANYONE, albeit friend or fellow troll, bring a pair of scissors near her to use in "that way." No way, now how! However, holding the ends of her hair close, she pondered on maybe...No!! She wouldn't care if her life depended on it!! She is still not going to do it...it just...no troll would get it.
Suki was exploring that area of the forest while calling for Poppy, shouting,"Pops, where are you?! We're worried about you!! Please come out." As she passed the oak tree, Suki looked up at the hole and seemed to notice a small dash of pink from the corner of her eye. She started to climb the tree, trying to move as quiet as a mouse. However, when one of the branches snapped and Suki lost her grip, she started to fall towards the ground, bracing for impact. However, Suki opened her eyes when she felt something catch her. She looked up and saw that it was Poppy, who saved her with her hair while saying,"Hang on. I'll save you Suki," while carefully pulling the DJ up into the hole with her. Once safely secured, Poppy released her grip on Suki as the DJ smiled, saying,"Thanks again for saving me Pops. I don't know what would've happened if you weren't there." Poppy shrugged, saying,"Hey, you're my friend Suki. I couldn't let you get hurt." Suki looked around before saying,"Nice hole you found. How long you plan on staying up here for"? Poppy looked outside before saying,"I don't know." Growing serious for a minute, Suki said to Poppy,"Listen girl, Branch does have a point. Cutting it would help with the length issue and you'd be able to keep it up like before and-," before Poppy interrupted her saying,"Look, I get what you're saying, but...I just can't go through with it." When Suki asked her,"Why? I ask not just because I'm your friend, but because I care about you. We all do, especially Branch, and he's your boyfriend. You've been there when you wanted us to talk to you about something. Now, it's our turn to sit and listen to what's on your mind." Poppy looked at her before saying,"Can you keep a secret Suki," as the DJ nodded, waiting to hear what Poppy was going to tell her. Meanwhile, everyone else met up together after an unsuccessful search. Branch was really concerned, saying,"We've looked everywhere and no sign of Poppy anywhere." Biggie asked,"What if she's in danger? Or worse: eaten," making everyone gasp as Guy Diamond fainted from the sound of that idea.
Luckily, DJ Suki soon met up with the group, saying,"Don't worry guys. She's not in danger or eaten by anyone or anything. I found her," making everyone relieved as Satin and Chenille asked,"Where is she"? Suki looked behind a bush as she says,"Poppy, wanna come out to see everyone," as the troll queen came out, saying,"Hey guys." Branch ran and hugged her tight, saying,"Thank goodness you're ok! What were you thinking running out like that?! Especially with how you are at the moment"?! Poppy looked down in sadness, saying,"I'm sorry Branch. I'm sorry everyone. I shouldn't have made you worry like that." Cooper says,"Well, I wasn't scared. I knew you'd be ok. After all, you're as tough as Branch here." Biggie came up to her, saying,"Why did you run off like that"? Poppy shuffled her feet, trying to word what she wanted to say as everyone fired off random guesses. Branch suggested,"Was there really a creature in the pod that startled you," while Guy Diamond asked,"Did you feel sick," while the twin asked,"Did you forget something that was left somewhere else," and Cooper added,"Were my cupcakes not right"? Poppy looked at her friends while saying,"I...was...scared! Ok?! I was scared and I ran out not thinking about anything. I'm sorry guys." They seemed to understand as Biggie says,"It's ok Poppy. We all have something we are afraid of." Branch then asked,"What made you so scared that you ran off like that"? Poppy didn't want to answer as Suki said,"She doesn't want to say. It's a secret that she feels that you guys wouldn't understand." Hearing that made Branch hold his girlfriend by the hand and say,"Poppy, we really care about you. If something's bugging you, you can talk about it with us. No matter if it's embarrassing or deep or anything like that, you can tell us." Seeing the honest and caring looks they all had, Poppy sat on a small rock, took a deep breath, and began to speak, saying,"Ok, well...the truth is...when Branch suggested cutting my hair to deal with the length, I fainted from fear because...I don't want to cut my hair. Why is...a long story. It happened a while ago when I was still young. I was busy scrapbooking when my dad came into the room and slipped on some paper, crashing into my scrapbook supplies. Stuff was sent flying, but a spare pair of scissors ended up bouncing off the walls and at first, I thought that it missed my dad as it hit me in the arm before it fell to the floor. Then, I saw the stray hairs that fell on the floor and realized: the scissors had cut his hair while it was bouncing around. Plus, when the scissors hit my arm, it made a small cut. My dad said that it wasn't my fault, that he should've seen where he was going, but I still felt bad. It took months for him to grow it back out to its original style and length.
Since then, it's haunted my mind and has terrified me since. It's made me think that if it could happen to him, it could happen to me. So, since then, I have never cut my hair, fearing something like that could happen to me. Either it would look bad or it might hurt me. I still have the scar on my arm to remind me of this day." She showed the scar to everyone as they all understood better why Poppy was frightened. Just on cue, their hug time bracelets chimed as they gathered for a big group hug, surrounding Poppy in their embrace. Their hugs made Poppy feel a lot better as she had a small, gentle smile on her face. Once they separated, Branch spoke up, saying,"Poppy, I didn't know that you went through something like that. Why did you never told any of us this"? Poppy shrugged, saying,"I didn't tell this to anyone because, well, I felt no one would get it or understand." Mr. Dinkles chirped something sweet as Biggie added,"Mr. Dinkles is right Poppy. We understand very well how you feel because of what you went through." Suki then mentioned,"Pops, I want to show you something," before showing her a white, faint scar on her left elbow. She then asked Poppy,"Do you remember this"? Poppy smiled, saying,"Of course, that was from the day we first became friends."
An 8 year old DJ Suki was learning how to rollerskate, but was having a lot of trouble and kept falling. After taking a nasty fall and scraping her elbow, Suki felt terrified about getting up and trying again. Just then, an 8 year old Poppy came up to her, saying,"Are you ok," carefully helping her up. Seeing the scrape she had, Poppy put a bandage on it as Suki smiled, saying,"Thanks. I'm DJ Suki, training to become a master DJ." Poppy smiled, saying,"I'm Poppy. Is this your first time rollerskating"? Suki nodded, saying,"I keep falling and getting hurt. I'm scared that if I try again, I'll fall and hurt myself again." Poppy held her by the hand and said,"It's ok to be scared with trying something new or doing something new for the first time. Just take a deep breath to calm down and keep trying till you get it right. Or, if you feel jittery about giving it a try, hum a favorite to yourself. Keep positive and you'll be able to do it." Taking her advice, Suki got up and with a little help, she got it down pat. Suki smiled at Poppy, saying,"Thanks a lot. Remaining calm and persevering made it a lot easier. This was my first time and thanks to you, it's now one of my favorite things to do." Poppy and Suki both shared a hug with one another, happy to be great friends with one another.
"Since then, I've held that memory dear to my heart because you helped me become less scared and willing to go through with it. If not for you, I would've remained scared and never tried to rollerskate again." That made Poppy smile as she says,"I remember that day. You were scared of getting hurt if you tried again since this was your first time at it. I helped you be able to remain calm and be able to try again until you got it right. After that, you never minded if you got hurt or fell because you enjoyed doing it a lot." Suki then says,"Well, then, it's our turn to help you back up on your feet. Branch, I'll need your help. As for the rest of you, meet us by the salon in a couple of minutes. Got it"? The rest of the Snack Pack understood as they exited the pod, heading towards the location. Once they were gone, Suki turned to Branch and said,"Ok Branch, now you and I are going to help Poppy relax and become less nervous so she can go through with this. For now, let's bring her over to Maddy's," with Branch nodding in agreement and Poppy asking,"Maddy? Isn't she the troll's top stylist"? Branch answered,"Yep and she's going to help out with your hair. From what I've heard, she's the best at what she does." While internally frightened, Poppy knew that this was the only way she was going to put an end to this bad hair day once and for all. With that, the trio walked out of the pod, heading towards the Hair In The Air salon. Inside, Maddy was finishing restocking the shelves with hairspray when she heard the doors open. She greeted them with a,"Hello," before seeing exactly who walked through the doors. She was a little surprised when she saw Poppy in the state she was in, saying,"Queen Poppy, it's great to see you visit, though I must ask what happened." Poppy gave a nervous smile, saying,"I'm having one of those really bad bad hair days Maddy." Branch spoke up, saying,"That's her way of saying that she desperately needs a haircut big time." Maddy gave a comforting smile, saying,"I see. Well, my schedule is clear at the moment. I'd be happy to help. Come take a sit Queen Poppy," as Poppy took a seat in one of the chairs. She let out a nervous exhale as Maddy placed an indigo cape over her.
As the stylist went to grab something real quick, Poppy felt really nervous about going through with this. As on cue, the rest of the Snack Pack arrived to comfort their nervous leader. Smidge was the first to give some encouragement, saying,"Don't worry Poppy. I remember my first time , I was just as nervous as you. But it's nothing to worry about. Promise." Biggie added,"It can be quite relaxing once you get over the initial jitters. Mr. Dinkles and I found that out our first time as well," with Mr. Dinkles chirping in agreement. Satin added,"Plus, the best part about it," with Chenille saying afterwards,"Is that you get it styled the way you want it." Then, both twins say in unison,"After all, when you look good, you feel good." Guy Diamond mentioned,"You'll still be the same Poppy we know and care for." Even Cooper even said,"Yeah dawg. You gonna look extra beautiful for your boyfriend once Maddy does her magic on you," making Branch blush in embarrassment and Poppy trying to stifle her laughter. Once Maddy returned with a Brusherfly and scissors in tow, the glance of those objects made Poppy a bit scared and begin having second thoughts. However, sitting on a stool right next to her, hand in hand, was Branch, who said,"I'm right here for you. If you get nervous, just squeeze my hand." He even gave her a "encouragement kiss" on her cheek, making Poppy smile and feel a lot more relaxed. Once Maddy was set to start, Poppy took a huge deep breath to eliminate any residing tension as the stylist made the first snip. It wasn't as bad as Poppy initially thought it to be. In fact, it was felt...kind of nice. As her friends watched in excitement, Suki was liking the sound of the scissors in use. It was like a really catchy beat. An idea came into mind that might also help Poppy stay relaxed.
She pulled out her turntable and put in a song to play. The others seemed to catch her drift as they went up to join her, except Branch, who stayed by Poppy's side. This would be quite interesting to watch as Poppy smiled, watching her friends prepare to perform.

Poppy and Branch seemed to be really enjoying the song and dance number. In fact, Poppy was enjoying it so much, she didn't mind much of Maddy, who was cutting and styling away at her hair to the beat of the music, transforming it into a hairstyle she knew Poppy would want. DJ Suki shouted to Branch,"Come join us Branch"!! Much to his chagrin, he got up and joined the dance number anyways.
Branch: Honey, you already look nice. Anyways, it's all about what's inside. But if we're looking at a portrait of you, of me, any reason we can add a little spice. Who's that staring back at the mirror? Oh snap, it's your fresh exterior. Come, come let's have a little fun with them one by one, that's how we get it

With a striking pose at the end, Poppy applauded very loudly for the stellar performance. She had a huge smile on her face, saying,"That was so great you guys. I liked that number very much. Branch, I knew you could sing, but did not know that you could rap as well." Everyone smiled in happiness as Branch blushed while saying,"It's a little something I've been able to do for some time now. Cooper has been helping me practice." Cooper smiled, saying,"Yeah!! We're making great progress"!! Poppy blushed while saying,"Well, I thought you sounded really good. All of you sounded really good. Thanks you." They all piled in their you're welcomes as Smidge said,"Well, we seemed to have ended it at a perfect time," motioning towards Poppy, who was having the cape removed by Maddy, who had just finished. Poppy took notice of this, saying,"Wait..it's over? She finished"? Maddy nodded, saying,"Yep. I've finished. Would you like to see," offering her a mirror. Poppy grabbed the mirror, closing her eyes momentarily, unsure on how it would look. She asked her friends,"Before I look, I need to know guys...how does it look? Is it bad or anything like that"? Everyone started piling in compliments, saying she looked fabulous and very pretty. When she got the courage to open her eyes, one at a time, Poppy looked in the mirror and feared the worst. However, one look and for once in a long time, she was silent. No...the better word was...speechless. She had to pinch herself to make sure she wasn't dreaming, but nope. She was wide awake. Her hair...looked great. Really great. Comparing it to how it was this morning, you cpuld see a HUGE difference. Drastically shortened to a now more manageable length and now, her ponytail stood upright with pride instead of drooping down like earlier. Yep, Poppy was looking like herself again. She looked up at her friends as she had a huge smile as she said with happiness,"I love it!!! It's perfect"!!! Branch laughed while saying,"Almost," before placing the leaf crown he brought with him from her pod on her head. He smiled and then said,"Now, it's perfect." Poppy thanked Maddy for her services before she and her friends left the salon and headed back to town. Walking by the other trolls, they all couldn't help but stop and look at Poppy pass by them. Thanks to her friends, not only did she conquer a fear and inner demon, but going through with it has given her some newfound confidence. Poppy was grateful to have such caring friends and a loving boyfriend that she cared for deeply. Without them, she'd wouldn't be the troll she was today.
