Snowypetal drew in a shaky breath, a slender, pale hand gripping the edge of the table, rubbing her tight, swollen stomach as she met her wife's smothering, intense, breath-taking pale green eyes, smiling wetly and feeling as if she were about to cry.
The birth passed both women by in a blur of happiness and anticipation, her wife muttering encouragement as she rubbed her back and white-blonde hair comfortingly. The laboring Neko's gray, white-tipped ears and tail twitched in part anticipation, part discomfort.
It seemed like an eternity, but the hot, uncomfortable, seemingly endless pain of labor and birth finally cleared. The pale-haired young woman was sweaty, tired and exhausted, but relieved as she leaned against Smokeblossom. The world came back into focus, slow and hazy.
"Do you notice the date today, gorgeous?" Her wife prompted. The young woman looked through pain-glazed dark blue eyes at the small calendar on the table: Mar. 15st. She gazed down at their newborn daughter, tiny, pink and prefect in her arms. Glancing to the digital clock, she vaguely noted they'd welcomed their daughter shortly before midnight, meaning…. her eyes widened.
How could I forget this? The woman wondered in awed amazement.
"Happy anniversary, my love." Her wife said warmly, smiling beautiful before their lips met in an intense, smothering kiss.
"What do you want to name her, my darling?" Smokeblossom asked as their daughter latched on, suckling greedily. A loving, prideful dark blue gaze studied the precious life in her arms, who had finished nursing and was sleeping soundly. The pale-furred young woman ran her pale green and violet-nailed hand through the kits downy soft, feathery raven hair. Snowypetal smiled fondly, her kits hair matched her wife's.
"How about Splashkit?" She asked, discovering black raindrop shaped spots against her daughters small, cute, gray, white-tipped ears.
"It's perfect, my angel." A beaming Smokeblossom nuzzled her. Snowypetal leaned back, dozing and eventually falling into a deep, dreamless, well-earned sleep.
