A/N: So I was reading a naruto soulmate AU series by Raendown where if you look into your soulmate's eyes you see an image of your future children. I found this idea so cute and I ended up making a few different pairings I like with this concept.

I feel like Nagare and Kasane had a good chance to live a good life, but the Kurosaki curse sucks ass. It's implied that Kasane would have carried Hisoka, but it cut off.

-Lucicelo

The omiai meeting between the Haruno and Kurosaki families happened during a hot autumn afternoon. For all involved, the iced tea did nothing to soothe the uncomfortable heat in the room. In fact, Haruno Fumio's attempts at lowering the tension in the room brought on Kurosaki Kai's lowering patience. At some point, they entered into business conversations while their wives and children remained silent in their seats.

Nagare remained tight lipped as he observed his surroundings. Despite his initial elation of having gotten Haruno Kasane as his potential wife, the inclusion of his parents made it uncomfortable. His father didn't need to tell him to behave. He learned his lesson in undermining his father's word early on in life. The unfairness of Iwao's preferred status remained in his thoughts. Iwao was the eldest son, the heir. He was the spare. Nothing more than a what if scenario in case Iwao became unsuitable or passed away.

When he tuned back into the conversation, he found the subject interested to want to add in his own word. Yet, any commentary coming from him would be unwelcomed. He didn't have as much insight in the family businesses as Iwao. His elder brother worked alongside their father, but his one fault was his unmarried status. He knew for certain that after his omiai, Iwao would have to attend a line of omiai to find his own bride. His bachelor status brought lifted brows and whispers over his eligibility.

His own self satisfaction came from graduating high school with an admission to To Oh university. No waitlist. No phone call to push him onto the list. He did it all on his own. His grades far surpassed expectations due to his own effort and studying to fill in the emptiness in his life. To him, school was easy than dealing with Kurosaki family politics. The fact that the university was far away from his hometown was an immense plus.

He watched as Haruno Fuyumi lowered her head to whisper to his would be betrothed Kasane. She appear annoyed or displeased at Kasane's silence. In fact, her gentle smile showed the intent of her comment. Kasane lifted her head up with a sheepish smile before turning her attention onto Nagare.

Nagare's cheeks warmed at having her sights on him. She was half of a pair of twins. A beautiful woman who appeared radiant in comparison to her younger sister. He met her during the annual festival and noted their inner differences. They looked like the same person, but Kasane's warm and teasing personality came through. After that afternoon, he thought of her for weeks. Almost absentminded as he went through his routines.

Nagare found himself thanking the gods when his father handed him her omiai photo.

Fumio's comment peaked Nagare's attention. "Of course, young people tend to venture out to soak their adventurous side before they marry. Nothing wrong with that. I don't expect our children to get married while your son is completing his education. I prefer to see Nagare graduating university in order to give my daughter a life of comfort."

His father nodded his head. "I agree. I married my wife before I graduated from university. Any distractions to my duties were gone once I finished my education. My life became busy with work, marriage, and my children. Mistresses have no space in my life."

Nagare noted his mother's sudden succession of sake cups. His father kept on talking as if nothing was wrong. Peering at Fuyumi and Kasane, he saw their shocked glance over his mother's obvious alcohol drinking. Of course, they were polite enough not to comment about it to one another or even point it out to his mother.

He didn't blame his mother for her sourness. Having grown up with their dynamic, he knew better than to bring it up to either one of them. His father spewed bullshit over having no mistresses. His mother caught him with plenty of townswomen and disposed of them in a timely fashion. Not that her actions stopped his father from continuing his affairs.

At some point, he thought the town would revolt over his father's infidelities and his mother's wrath. No one was above the law. As he grew older, nothing happened to his family. The town continued on simpering over his family, which never failed to make him uncomfortable.

Their standing in the town kept them untouchable with the police.

Fumio reached out and held Fuyumi's hand. "Oh, I have no need for another woman." He turned his head and looked at her with a tender smile. "Soulmates are for life."

Kai paused. "You two are soulmates."

Beaming in happiness, Fuyumi nodded her head. "Yes. We met at Fumio's fifteenth birthday party. I tripped over a misplaced chopstick and he caught me in his arms." She turned her attention onto Nagare's parents. "We looked into each other's eyes and the rest was history."

Fumio chortled. "Well, our fathers set up the arrangement. Then, we got married after we graduated university."

Fuyumi chuckled. "But, we already felt like we were married before the ceremony began. We spent most of our time together studying and taking long walks in your family garden. Of course, my cousin was our chaperone."

Fumio snorted. "After one loving kiss and I became a danger to your virtue. Your mother exaggerated the whole scene to keep you from me."

"Not that it worked. I still became your wife."

Fighting a chuckle from overhearing their back and forth, Nagare shared a smile with Kasane. She smiled back with a blush on her cheeks. When their eyes aligned, time stopped between the both of them.

The moment Kurosaki Nagare looked into Haruno Kasane's eyes, his mind burst with images of their daughter.

He couldn't believe it.

They bore the first daughter in generations.

And she was so beautiful.

The little girl was a replica of himself. From the brief insight of his future, she appeared mischievous, but kind. He saw her petting different animals while tugging him along to other farm animals. Further along in those flashes, Kasane cradling her swollen belly as their daughter spoke to their unborn child. Before he saw his second child, from the blanket, he was a boy, his father pinched his leg. He broke out of his trance. Nagare never hated his father more than in that moment.

Across from him, Kasane gaped in astonishment. Tears gathered in her eyes as she proclaimed. "Oh my goodness. You're my soulmate."

Fumio reached over the table and clapped Nagare's back in delight. "Amazing! Another Haruno family soulmate meeting! Well let's get to signing this contract and plan the wedding. I take back waiting until Nagare graduates university. They shall marry later on this year!" He grinned at Kai. "This will bond our businesses for life!"

Kasane's mother, Fuyumi, dabbed the tears from her eyes. "Oh Kasane, I'm so happy! See? You worried over nothing-" She embraced Kasane in a tight hug while Kasane babbled in excitement.

"When you said Haruno's had luck in finding their soulmates, you were not kidding!" Kasane said.

Nagare's happiness dulled the moment he peered back at his parents. His father didn't show the same enthusiasm as his future in-laws. In fact, he appeared disgruntled at this development. His mother glared at him in fury, almost resentful of his luck. At that moment, he remembered his parents were not soulmates.

True soulmates never cheated on their spouses.

Their lackluster reaction didn't deter him when he reached out his hand and held Kasane's hand. His mother muttered harsh words over his audacity. He ignored her. He kept his eyes on Kasane. The sight of her pretty blush made his heart flutter.

He finally found happiness.

Years later, Nagare's happiness disappeared before his eyes. The death of his newborn daughter broke Nagare's heart. Nothing stopped him out of his rantings as he denied the death of that bubbly little girl in his visions. The daughter who tugged at his hand and fluttered her lashes to get what she wanted. To never feel her hugs when she told him she loved him. She became nothing more than ashes.

When he tried to comfort Kasane, she became unresponsive to him. Her once sparkling eyes dimmed at the death of their child. He didn't blame her. After all, he wasn't there to support her during the birth of their child. He promised to abandon his work commitments to hold her hand as she birthed their daughter.

He didn't make it.

His work piled up. Business meetings were scheduled on Kasane's birth week. Throughout that whole week, he hoped their daughter arrived late. He desperately wanted to go back home, but his work obligations kept him away from home.

Attempting to leave would bring forth immense disapproval from his family. Ever since he became master, a position he never wanted, his decisions were scrutinized beyond measure. Nothing he did satisfied his family. The elders muttered about his lack of suitability, but didn't dare override his late father's will. The man and the curse kept him tied to the title.

There was no escape.

Without this title, Nagare would have stayed back home. Maybe, if he was there at Kasane's bedside, their daughter would have lived. Multiple what if situations flashed through his mind as he tried finding a way they could have prevented her death.

During their mourning period, he neglected Kasane for one afternoon. He thought leaving her alone would help her. She disappeared from their rooms. He didn't worry. Assuming she went on a walk, he finished paperwork while speaking to different family members. They needed their own space after all.

A nagging twitch in his mind distracted him from his duties, but he chose to ignore it.

That was the worst mistake of his life.

When Kasane didn't return for dinner, Nagare abandoned his dinner to search for her. Despite the growling in his stomach, his soulmate came first. He didn't care if he froze from the cold winds hitting his body. After he found Kasane, they would bathe together, drink a warm cup of tea, and then sleep.

After two hours, Nagare almost gave up as he passed one of the many lakes near the Kurosaki property. He wondered if Kasane went back to their rooms and wasted his time looking for her.

In his peripheral, he saw a flash of purple material in the water. On that day, Kasane wore a purple kimono.

With his heart hammering in his chest, he turned his attention toward the lake and his knees buckled.

He found his beloved soulmate in the lake.

Dead.

She was dead.

He rushed into the lake and battled past the chilliness of the lake. When he got close to her, he clutched Kasane's body against himself. He managed to get them out of the lake before he laid her down onto the grass. Touching her face, she felt cold. He moved his hands onto her neck to feel her pulse, nothing. He felt nothing.

Untying her obi, he exposed her skin enough for him to place his ear against her chest. He tried hearing her heartbeat or feel her chest rise.

Silence.

In an instant, Nagare began chest compressions while giving her CPR. He saw her chest rise from his breaths, but she didn't react or move on her own accord. He continued on doing this until he became tired and out of breath. Throughout all that time, she never coughed up any water.

She was gone.

Nagare collapsed on top of her in devastation.

After some time, his staff found him clinging onto Kasane's dead body. His staff tried prying him off of her body, but he fought them off. He didn't want them to separate him from his beloved. His wife.

Iwao arrived in time to restrain him in order for Kasane to be taken away. Nagare didn't expect comfort from his brother. Iwao resented him since their father handed him the role in his will. Not even then, Iwao despised him since he was old enough to remember. He wasn't disappointed when Iwao snapped at him. He said how no one needed to see his display of grief or the dead body of the master's wife.

Nagare stared at the retreating form of the male servants. They carried his soulmate, the body of his soulmate.

He went through her funeral procession without any emotion in his face. Clutching onto her portrait, he didn't give his family the satisfaction of seeing him cry.

Inside his yukata sleeve, he had a piece of his daughter's hair tied with a string. Kasane gave it to him during one of her lucid moments. She managed to cut a piece of their daughter's hair before the family handled her burial. In return, he cut a piece of Kasane's hair before he was ushered away from his wife.

Once everything was over, he retuned to his room. He removed the hair bundles from his sleeve and began braiding them together. He didn't want to lose either one due to his own negligence.

His mind and soul didn't believe he lost the loves of his life.

He wanted to seclude himself from life, but his responsibilities to his family came first. After a brief period of mourning, his family yammered about an heir. As a dutiful member of the family, Nagare looked for a wife. Locking his emotions, he looked through a new stack of omiai photos in between his work.

He didn't have to look for long.

Due to a hidden line in the marriage arrangement slash business contract, Nagare married Haruno Rui. The Haruno family was awkward at the wedding ceremony, almost unnerved at the repeat of losing another child to the Kurosaki family. Considering, the contract favored the Kurosaki family, the Haruno family kept their opinions to themselves. They didn't want to lose their business over breaking their contract.

Nagare tried to move on with his life, but he couldn't. His soulmate and their children lingered in his thoughts. The memories of a easygoing life was nothing more than a fantasy.

He respected Rui, but he didn't love her. He couldn't look at her in the face because she reminded him of the woman who was once his wife. When his son was born, he avoided contact with him. He didn't even hold him for the first month of his life. Kasane would of berated him from his callousness over laying blame on an innocent child.

He couldn't help it.

Hisoka looked just like their daughter and he didn't want to replace her. His daughter's name and date of birth was erased from the family registry. Almost as if she never existed.

As the curse overtook his body, Nagare knew his life was shortened. During his lowest moments, he wished for the Yatonokami to kill him. To give him a release from his current situation in life. Yet, his stubbornness and pride kept him from becoming pliant to the beast's whims.

He might want to die, but he wanted to do it on his own terms.

After the death of his son, he contemplated ending his life. Despite the fact he didn't open his heart to his son, he loved him. Deep inside of his grief, he loved that boy despite his reservations on the possibility of replacing his previous child.

On his death, Iwao would earn the mastership. If Iwao wanted to feel the curse, Nagare was more than happy to hand it to him. The Yatonokami muttered more than enough remarks over torturing Iwao for his apparent superiority due to his blood. A tainted bloodline whose masters were nothing more than walking beast containers.

Nagare stopped himself from diving into his plans.

He needed to atone for his mistakes in life before he joined his soulmate in the afterlife.

The end.
