It was just another hot afternoon in the town of Gravity Falls, Oregon. Dipper and Mabel were playing chess in the attic, the volume of the tv downstairs and the clacking of chess pieces being the only sounds to be heard.

"Checkmate!" Mabel exclaimed, throwing her arms up in the air. Dipper sighed, looking off into space. Mabel caught the look on her brother's face. "What's wrong, Dip?" She asked, her arms falling back to her sides. Dipper looked back up at her. "What? Why do you think there's something wrong?" He replied, not looking Mabel in the eye. "Uh, I just beat you at chess," Mabel explained. "I think that's pretty self-explanatory."

Dipper shrugged and put his head in his hand. Mabel picked up Waddles, who had been lying next to her, and sidled up next to him. "Come on," She pleaded. "At least talk to Dr. Waddles the therapist. You can trust him not to spill all your juicy secrets." Waddles oinked happily as if to say, As long as you give me a treat, that is.

Dipper smiled as he looked at his sister and Waddles. She was trying to help him, so the least he could do was tell her what was bothering him. "Alright, fine." He conceded. "It's just that, after last summer, you know after Weirdmaggedon and defeating Bill, it feels like there's no mystery anymore. Sure, there's still weird things that happen and monsters and all of that, but it just feels more... empty."

Mabel sighed and put down Waddles, who laid beside her once again. "Yeah, having an evil dorito threaten your life will definitely put a bit of pizazz in your summer." She replied. "But it's not like we still don't have things to do or see. How about this," She grabbed Dipper's arm and stood, dragging him up with her. "We can go take a walk in the woods and look for something to investigate. Like a monster or cursed item or something."

Dipper thought about it, the idea warming up to him. "Yeah, that seems like a smart idea. Let's do it!" He smiled. A warning bell sounded through his brain, but he pushed it down. He wanted to find a new adventure, and you can't get that by playing chess in a dusty old attic.

The twins walked through the forest, a slight wind rustling the leaves. Chipmunks and squirrels leaped from branch to branch, bush to bush in search of food for their shelter. As beautiful as it was, nothing about it was strange. Everything was so... normal.

How boring.

Dipper didn't want to admit it, but he was starting to lose hope that they'd ever find something interesting. Sure, he knew there were still gnomes and vampires and zombies, but his great uncle Ford has already researched all of that. He wanted to investigate something on his own, to discover something entirely new that no one had ever seen before. That had been his dream ever since he had left Gravity Falls almost a year ago.

When his and Mabel's parents had allowed them to stay in Gravity Falls for another summer, Dipper had jumped at the chance, thinking it was his only chance to fulfill his wish. There was no denying the fact that there was nothing strange about the town of Piedmont, California. But Gravity Falls was full of mystery, surely there was something in the shadows, waiting to be discovered.

But, as Dipper looked around at the forest scenery, he realized that there may not be as big of a chance that he had thought. More like no chance.

He sighed as he came to this conclusion. "It's getting dark," he said, looking up at the darkening sky. They must have been walking through the forest longer than they thought. "We should probably head back. Grunkle Stan is going to blow his top when he realizes we left without telling him."

Mabel giggled. "Yeah, his face is probably going to get all red and puffy. But I can soften the blow by making him a cup of Mabel Juice. People go wild for that stuff." She boasted. "Literally only you and Waddles drink it. And I don't even think he should be drinking it," Dipper pointed out. "He is a pig after all." "You're just jealous." Mabel said, and skipped away, back to the mystery shack.

But she didn't get far before a tearing sound split the silent forest air from behind them. The twins turned and felt their stomachs drop.

A portal had appeared from behind them, in a jagged shape like someone had torn the air in half. Dipper felt the gravity of the portal try to suck him in, but he dug his feet in the ground to fight it. He saw Mabel do the same.

"What is that thing?!" She shrieked. "I-I don't know!" Dipper exclaimed. Along with his terror, he felt a burst of excitement. This was it, this was what he had been waiting for!

"It-It must be a leftover tear from Weirdmaggedon! That's the only explanation!" Dipper speculated. As they fought against the portal, the gravity pushing seemed to strengthen. Dipper's pine tree hat flew off his head and into the portal. "No!" He reached out to grab it, but it was too late. He slipped and the portal sucked him in.

"Dipper!" Mabel yelled. She felt her own feet slide off the ground, and shrieked as she became weightless. Then, she too, was sucked into the portal, screaming.

The portal closed within moments, and the forest went back to its quiet and normal ways, as if nothing had ever happened.

Dun dun duuuun.

Who could've guessed that would happen?

*watches as a sea of people raise their hands*

Oh, well. For real though, this was super fun to write and I can't wait to start chapter 2. I think I'm getting the hang of this!

As you can probably guess, owl house characters will be introduced next chapter. I'm not sure if a Gravity Falls and Owl House crossover exists yet, so I thought if it's going to happen eventually, then I can be the one to write it. Or there's an entire library full of these and this is just one of many. If so... whoops.

Thanks for reading and I'll see ya later, entertainers!
