Legacy 117: Tales of Broken Hearts

In Central Park in New York City, a young man was walking down a path late at night. He was listening to music through his earbuds while staring at his surroundings as if under the influence of something. He stopped and removed his earbuds when he was distracted by a strange glow coming from a fountain nearby. The glow seemed to come from within the fountain, so the young man carefully walked closer and looked inside. He stumbled back when a small green light shot up out of the water and started buzzing around him.

"What the hell?" The young man called out as he tried to chase it off.

The light continued to buzz around him while a green powdery substance filled the air, causing the light to grow in size. A figure in fantasy-looking armor appeared out of nowhere. He was a dashing young man with blond wavy hair and green eyes.

"Am I dreaming?" The New Yorker asked. "Where did you come from?"

"Fear not, mortal." The young man in armor replied. "I am Sir Frederick of the Enchanted Kingdom. I was sent to retrieve our beloved princess Thistle."

"I must be losing it." The New Yorker said. "Maybe I took too much."

"I sense traces of fairy dust." Frederick noted. "And you were able to see my fairy form. Why is that?"

"Fairy dust?" The New Yorker asked. "You mean pixie dust, right?"

"What are you talking about?" Frederick retorted.

"You're not a cop, right?" the New Yorker asked.

"I have no idea what a cop is." Frederick replied with a frown.

"Right, because you're a fairy." The New Yorker said laughing. "Okay, so I just came from this party and my friend offered me something called pixie dust. It makes you see all kinds of fun stuff."

"Pixie dust." Frederick repeated. "Where did your friend get it?"

"There was this girl there selling it, pretty, brown hair." The New Yorker replied.

"Where was this party?" Frederick demanded to know.

"Dude, your armor is so pretty and sparkly. Where did you get it?" The New Yorker replied mesmerized as he touched it.

"My armor is distracting it seems." Frederick noted. "I should blend it. Your clothes look to be adequate for the situation. Take them off."

"Okay, dude." The New Yorker replied as he put up his hands. "I support the fairy thing, but I don't swing that way."

When the New Yorker backed away, Frederick impatiently drew his sword from its sheath. A few moments later, Frederick was dressed in the man's clothes while the New Yorker was lying unconscious in his underwear. Frederick turned to his discarded sword and armor and sprinkled some fairy dust, causing them to shrink. He placed his belongings in his pocket, as he would need them later if the princess was in danger or proved to be resistant.

"Thank you for the assistance, mortal." Frederick said.

Sprinkling some fairy dust over himself, Frederick transformed into his fairy form and flew away. The king had sent him to retrieve the princess and he was determined not to fail. The future of the kingdom depended on him. It was not only his sacred mission, but a personal one as well.

After a romantic dinner in a little Italian restaurant, Wyatt and Dylan were at P3 for a drink and to watch one of their favorite bands perform. They were sitting in a booth in the corner, which Penny had reserved for them. They had been dating for about six months, so this was sort-of their anniversary. Wyatt was happy with how things were going between them and was glad to have his family's love and support. A little while ago, he would have never imagined falling in love with a guy, but Dylan had changed all of that.

"Should we get another drink?" Dylan asked.

"Yeah, I could use another of these cocktails." Wyatt replied.

Wyatt waved at the bar for someone to come over. He noticed Faye waving back at him and sending someone over. A moment later, Dominik arrived at the booth and they both placed their order.

"Something to celebrate?" Dominik asked.

"I guess we do." Dylan replied as he smiled at Wyatt. "It's been six months since we started going out."

"Congrats." Dominik said. "You guys are lucky. Most guys are only after one thing. I'll be right back with your drinks."

"Thanks Dominik." Dylan replied.

As the bartender walked away, Wyatt noticed Dylan following him with his eyes. He guessed that Dominik was an attractive guy, but he still wasn't used to looking at men like that.

"He's cute, right?" Dylan asked.

"You think so?" Wyatt replied with a frown.

"Sorry, I didn't meant to make you feel uncomfortable." Dylan said as he placed a hand on his arm. "I know it's still new for you."

"Yeah." Wyatt admitted. "I fell in love with you, so you're the only guy I look at."

"That's sweet." Dylan replied. "So do you still look at girls?"

Before Wyatt had a chance to answer, he heard someone call out his name. He turned around and saw a familiar face heading his way. It took him a moment to recognize Trevor, one of his best friends from high school. They had not seen each other in years, as they drifted apart after graduation. He got up to hug his former friend.

"Trevor, it's been forever." Wyatt said. "How have you been?"

"Good, good." Trevor replied. "Got into advertising like I wanted, got a nice place and recently single again."

"Oh sorry." Wyatt said.

"No, forget it." Trevor replied. "I was with her since college and getting dumped made me realize how much I missed being single. What about you?"

Wyatt suddenly hesitated as he looked at Dylan. Although his family knew about them, nobody else from his past or work really knew. It was a bridge he hadn't crossed yet, one that he had been avoiding for some reason. Trevor was his friend, but he was always picking on people who were different in high school. Wyatt wasn't sure how he would react.

"The same, I guess." Wyatt quickly lied, though he regretted it when he saw the hurt in Dylan's eyes. "And I'm a freelance photographer."

"Cool, you always talked about doing that." Trevor noted. "So who's your friend?"

"This is Dylan." Wyatt replied.

"Yeah, nice to meet you." Dylan said as he shook hands with Trevor. "If you'll excuse me, I need to go to the bathroom. You guys catch up."

Dylan left the booth in a rush and Wyatt felt horrible about what he had said. He knew it had to hurt for him to deny their relationship, but he panicked. His eyes followed Dylan to the bathroom and he barely registered what Trevor was saying.

"So are you in?" Trevor asked.

"Sorry, what?" Wyatt asked.

"I said we should catch up sometime, drink some beers." Trevor said.

"Sure, why not?" Wyatt said.

"Great, here's my number." Trevor said as he passed on a business card. "By the way, I love what Penny did with the place, too bad she shot me down when I asked her out."

"She's out of your league anyway." Wyatt replied.

Trevor laughed and gave him a quick hug before heading back to the dance floor. Wyatt sat down and waited for Dylan to get back. He realized his actions were hurtful, but he needed to explain it. Trevor had caught him off guard and he froze. When Dylan finally returned, he grabbed his coat.

"Can we call it a night?" Dylan asked. "I'm pretty tired."

"Sure." Wyatt replied.

Dylan waited impatiently while Wyatt paid the bill and they headed outside. There was an awkward silence as they walked to the car. Wyatt wasn't sure what to say, but he had to say something.

"Can we talk about what just happened?" Wyatt asked.

"I don't think there's much to talk about." Dylan replied. "Apparently I'm just a friend."

"Look, I know Trevor from high school." Wyatt said. "I didn't know what to say."

"Wyatt, I know that you're not in the same place as me." Dylan replied. "I've known I'm gay since I was a kid. It's okay if you're not there yet."

"But I'm not gay." Wyatt said. "I'm not suddenly only into guys."

"So you do still like women?" Dylan asked with a frown.

"Yeah, I guess." Wyatt said as he felt himself getting confused. "I haven't thought about it to be honest."

"Look, it's humiliating to be introduced as your friend. We're supposed to be together." Dylan snapped at him.

"What do you want me to say?" Wyatt asked.

"Nothing, I don't think there is anything you can say right now." Dylan replied. "I can't deal with this right now, I need some time."

Dylan turned away and used his super speed to disappear from the street. Wyatt cursed at himself for being an idiot. He should have just told Trevor the truth and none of this would have happened. He needed to talk to Dylan, as he wanted to figure this out. However, it was probably better to wait and let him cool off.

As he watched the argument between Wyatt and Dylan from the shadows, Dominik smirked and went back inside the club. His plans to break them up had already started without his influence, thanks to Wyatt himself. All he needed to do now was plant a few more seeds to drive them apart.

"That table in the back just ordered another round." Faye informed him as he returned to the bar.

"Got it." Dominik replied.

"Did Wyatt just leave?" Faye asked. "Didn't they only just get here?"

"Yeah, looks like trouble in paradise." Dominik remarked. "Say, weren't you crushing on Wyatt a while back?"

"Only like since high school. He is so hot." Faye admitted. "But I'm clearly not his type, so I decided to move on."

"I wouldn't give up so soon." Dominik remarked.

"Are you serious?" Faye asked. "Is that what they were fighting about?"

"Not to gossip, but Dylan is a friend and I don't want him to get hurt." Dominik said. "It sounded like Wyatt isn't ready to commit."

"Poor Dylan." Faye replied. "I hope they can work it out."

"Faye, come on." Dylan said with a smirk. "Don't play innocent here. Are you telling me you wouldn't go for Wyatt given the chance?"

"Listen, I'm not a home wrecker." Faye replied. "But then again, I wouldn't turn down him down if he comes knocking either."

"I figured." Dominik said. "I'll get those drinks and then my shift is over."

After serving the table in the back, Dominik left the club. He hated working there, but it was the perfect way to keep taps on the Halliwells. He disappeared through a cloud of molecules and reappeared in an Underworld cavern overgrown with vines and plants. He walked through a large wooden door and entered the lair of the Morrigan. The demonic sorceress was sitting on a throne made of vines, while torches of green flames surrounded her.

"Do you bring me news?" Morrigan asked.

"I have found the perfect way to crush Wyatt's heart." Dominik replied. "His relationship with Dylan is rocky. You wanted him to suffer before you kill him, right?"

"I want him utterly crushed." Morrigan said determined. "Tell me more."

"Wyatt has doubts about his sexuality." Dominik explained. "All we need to do is offer him some temptation to tear them apart."

"Do you have a plan?" Morrigan asked.

"What better way to break them up by having Wyatt do the thing that would hurt Dylan most?" Dominik said. "Cheat on him with a woman."

"Interesting." Morrigan noted. "Can you make it happen?"

"Not on my own." Dominik replied. "But I'm sure my lady has some tricks in her book."

The Morrigan smirked as she waved her hand, causing a wooden box to appear next to Dominik in a whirl of ashes. He picked it up and opened it, finding a glowing pink gem inside. He sensed its power and knew what the sorceress was offering him. If he infected Wyatt with the sin of lust, he would follow his desires and betray Dylan. Then the handsome half-demon would be his for the taking.

In Manhattan, Tess was dancing at a rooftop party and doing some business. After leaving San Francisco, she had started over in New York and her pixie dust was selling like crazy. She was getting invited to the best parties and met all kinds of interesting people. She wondered why she chosen a high school life when she could have been partying like this ever since leaving her kingdom. There was only one thing she actually missed about San Francisco.

"Hey stranger." A familiar voice said.

Tess turned around and danced into the arms of Ivy, a close friend she had recently made. She was a young witch with black hair and brown eyes. There was something mysterious about her, which Tess found intriguing. As they continued to dance, their lips locked for a kiss.

"How's business?" Ivy asked.

"Great." Tess replied. "I'm all sold out."

"Nice work." Ivy said. "So we have the whole night for fun. Want to get out of here?"

"You just got here." Tess replied. "Besides, I like it."

"I know, but I heard about this midnight rave down by the docks that sounds even better." Ivy said. "Only problem is that we might run into a few of your clients."

"I'm out of dust." Tess said.

"But you have more stashed somewhere, right?" Ivy asked.

"Of course." Tess said. "But let's just enjoy tonight."

Ivy smiled and went to get some drinks. As she danced on her own, Tess suddenly got the feeling someone was watching her. She looked around and spotted a familiar face standing near the door. She was shocked to see it was Frederick, a face from the past she was running from.

"No." Tess whispered.

"What's wrong?" Ivy asked as she rejoined her.

"Someone I want to avoid." Tess replied. "We have to go."

"You mean tall, blond and brooding over there?" Ivy asked as he noticed Frederick. "He's hot. Who is he?"

"It doesn't matter." Tess said. "We have to go."

As Frederick started to approach, Tess grabbed Ivy by the arm and dragged her away. As they were on a rooftop, there weren't many places to run and Frederick managed to trap them in a corner.

"Princess, I've finally found you." Frederick said.

"Princess?" Ivy asked confused.

"Don't call me that, Frederick." Tess replied. "I left that life behind."

"Your people need you and your father misses you." Frederick said. "I miss you, Thistle. You are my betrothed."

"Only for political reasons." Tess replied. "I'm not going back. And my name is Tess now."

"Wait, I'm confused." Ivy said. "Is this guy saying he is your fiance?"

"Less talking, more jumping." Tess replied.

"Wait, wha…?" Ivy started to ask.

Before Ivy had a chance to finish her sentence, Tess grabbed her and leaped over the edge of the roof, much to the shock of the party-goers. Frederick ran to the edge and looked down. He was just in time to see Tess shrink to her fairy form and fly away with Ivy. As he was surrounded by mortals, Frederick realized he couldn't follow without exposing magic. Frustrated, he turned around and left the rooftop.

A few streets ahead, Tess landed in an alley and transformed herself and Ivy back to human size. Feeling cornered and scared, she grabbed her phone and reached out to the only person she trusted in this world, while Ivy needed a minute to catch her breath.

"Don't ever do that again!" Ivy snapped at her. "Who are you texting?"

"Someone who can help us get rid of Frederick, I hope." Tess replied as she sent the text.
