Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter, it belongs to JKR.
A/N: I should be finishing my other stories but when a new idea comes to me, a new idea I must write. In honour of the current climate, here's a quarantine Jily fic. Hope you like it!
Lily Evans walked aimlessly around the streets of Diagon Alley. She knew that she shouldn't be there, but she didn't really care. Petunia was being her usual horrible self, only this time her parents had taken her side over Lily's because they were trying to make nice with her sister's wale of a fiancé.
Vernon Dursley was a horrible man and Lily knew that if she had stayed she would've only ended up saying something she would regret. This was for the best. Yet she couldn't help the hurt coursing through her. She sighed as she looked around the desolate streets. She honestly didn't know what she hoped to accomplish by coming here.
Diagon Alley had been taken over by Voldemort and the Death Eaters and it was considered highly dangerous. Lily wasn't afraid. She had a healthy amount of fear of course, and she certainly wasn't letting her guard down, but no one came here anymore because of the Death Eaters and the Death Eaters didn't come because there were no more people.
The sight of an empty Diagon Alley was actually rather sad yet it helped her mood because she could be completely alone in a place that housed magic. Being so different from her family was hard and sometimes she needed to get back into the wizarding world, her world. It seemed as though time had stopped, the world suspended, it was peaceful here.
CRACK. She spun and aimed her wand at the sound of apparition but could do nothing but gape at the sight of the auror in front of her. He was dressed in a hazmat suit and she couldn't decide if he looked comical or frightening.
"Miss Evans, you must come with me."
She eyed him suspiciously.
"No thanks."
He sighed.
"You have every right to be suspicious, but Albus Dumbledore sent me. The phoenix's flame is the brightest after it has died."
Lily lowered her wand. That was the Order's safe phrase, so that they would know the person saying it was friendly. She wasn't yet part of the Order but she was a junior Order member. At 15 Dumbledore allowed those interested in joining the Order to be of use to him inside of Hogwarts.
Hesitantly, she grabbed the auror's arm and was sucked into the familiar unpleasant pull of apparition. She breathed out in relief when she landed on the ground.
Her almond eyes widened at the sight before her. It looked like a prison and a hospital all in one. Everything was white. There were heavy looking sliding doors and cells masquerading as rooms lining the corridors.
"Where are we?"
The auror didn't answer, he just gestured behind her. She turned and found Dumbledore standing on the other side of what looked like a reception desk. His blue eyes twinkled behind the glass but he didn't look particularly happy.
Lily moved closer.
"Professor?"
He smiled wanly, looking rather old in the stark lighting.
"Hello Miss Evans. I am awfully sorry about this but we need to take extreme precautions considering the circumstances."
"What circumstances?" Lily did not like the sound of that at all.
"Voldemort stated that he put a deadly virus in Diagon Alley yesterday evening. If this is true, you have been exposed and are a risk to wizards and muggles alike."
"What does that mean? I have to stay here until they see symptoms or die? What about my parents? They still think I'm in the house."
"I have informed your parents. And yes, unfortunately it does mean that you have to stay here until you are no longer a threat to the public. However you will not be alone, there was another person who went to Diagon Alley alone and was apprehended. You will be quarantined together. Unfortunately, you will be unable to see anyone else as we do not know how potent this is. You will only see the aurors who bring you food."
The twinkle had gone from his eyes and he smiled wearily at her.
"I'm sorry Lily." She couldn't even muster a smile to reassure him. She was too shocked.
Her eyes held the headmaster's for a second and then he was gone.
The auror motioned for her to follow him and she did. He led her to a bathroom where she was instructed to have a hot shower and cleanse every inch of her skin before changing into clothes they had provided her with. She let the water soothe her and stayed in a tad longer than she should have. The auror didn't mention it when she finally joined him after directing a hair drying charm at her hair.
"Will you be here all the time?" She asked him.
"Yes. Myself and Auror Moody are the only ones besides Dumbledore who know about this place. Secret Keeper." He added at her curious look.
"What's your name?" She asked him.
"Robards."
She regarded him. He was taller than her and very broad shouldered. His blond hair was cut short but not so short that he looked as though he could be in the military. His brown eyes seemed intelligent and alight with focus. He walked with purpose, as though his job meant everything to him. Although maybe she was just reading into that.
"Nice to meet you. Did you volunteer for this? I mean that's hardly better than being ordered but still."
He smiled slightly, almost against his will, only furthering her assumption that his job meant everything.
"I did. None of the young aurors could handle it and besides that, Moody doesn't trust anyone but me. He fears the auror office and the ministry has been infiltrated."
Lily filed that information away in her brain for later. Not only was that interesting, but she had been considering a career at the Ministry. She wasn't sure Dumbledore would agree to a young auror member being involved in a corrupt Ministry.
"Well thank you for being my captor."
He laughed.
"Well this certainly doesn't seem like it will be dull. At least not with you around."
"I'll be here all week. Maybe even all month." She responded cheekily.
Robards shook his head, grinning. He stopped outside of a cell.
"Well here we are. Home sweet jail." He shrugged apologetically. Lily sighed.
"At least I'll have company."
She waved at Robards and opened the door. Her fellow captor had his back to her. He looked to be about her age with messy black hair. Oh no. Lily knew that hair. It couldn't be, right?
James Potter turned to face her, smiling tiredly.
"Fancy meeting you here Evans."
