Author's Note: one of the few remaining KND stories I have left lol. I'll probably do a story where Nigel turns evil (maybe I have plans since that suggestion was made). Then my new and improved time travel story later later this summer. Not sure when that will go up though and I'll be posting some other stories in different areas too. Happy reading!

The hearse slowly drove down the windy pavement. A family of seven had stepped out of the car following behind. An elderly man driving them had stopped the car and waited for the family to climb out.

It was actually a nice day with the sky a brilliant cerulean color. The hot July sun high in sky. A few clouds smattered here and there. The newly mowed lawn and a fresh grave ready to be filled in. A light breeze cooled down the mourners in dark colors.

Monty blew his nose and stared straight ahead. The stone had the names Isabelle and Montgomery Uno engraved in the stone. He hadn't really been in a graveyard since the passing of his own wife except here and there.

"Hi mom," whispered Monty until everyone stood around the hole in the ground.

A man in glasses smiled at him before starting a small prepared speech. Monty just listened half dazed and smiled weakly at his family. Rachel had her blond hair smoothed into a French braid and in a navy dress. The boys wearing half their school uniforms, sans the blazer and sweater vest, and hair combed neatly. Maggie in a deep forest green dress and hair pulled up. Nigel in his usual clothes claiming that it worked for anywhere. Ben switched out his red suspenders for black ones. The looks on their faces said that they were just as upset as he was.

Blowing his nose again Monty watched thinking about his father. He wasn't a role model, but he tried and that was what mattered right? Sure, he wasn't there for Ben and rather distant but… maybe he didn't have an excuse for that.

Ben on the on the hand wasn't exactly pleased about his father dying but had a weird mix of sadness and possibly satisfaction run through him.

Next to him Nigel squeezed his arm assuring him that he was there for him. Since his father was rather for the lack of a better word, old, they were really the only attendants for the small ceremony. Nigel blinked back tears of his own. He had gotten to know his grandfather over the years and would greatly miss him.

"Every July to mid-August my family and I would spend time in America with Pappi and Ben," he started to say and cleared his throat. "We'd always have fun with the kids fishing or playing cards at the retirement home even made him great grammy's cake. Pappi would share a few memories with us that he had growing up. He didn't remember much…"

He rambled on for a moment before he started to cry. Rachel had put her arm around him and rubbed her daughter's shoulder before squeezing Charlie against her.

"Oh dad I'll miss you so much!" cried Monty throwing a pile of dirt into the hole before Ben spoke up next.

It was a short speech and made Ben realize that it was good thing that he wasn't the favorite. Nigel spoke about how he had gotten to know him little by little and that he was glad to know him. Rachel and the kids just saying their goodbyes.

The gathering at the funeral home right afterward was going to be hard. You're out of my will you brat, was one of the things that Grandfather had said to Monty when he was recommissioned the second time. That was not the case post his second decommissioning. In fact, Monty had enthusiastically greeted his father as if nothing had happened between them.

Too bad now it was the time to actually read that will.

"Ben," said Monty taking his brother's hand and smiled at him. "I'm glad that you're here."

Benedict Uno, formerly Father, had squeezed his brothers' hand and nodded at him. The day solemn and everyone for the most part quiet. He thought of the funeral and his speech before guiltily remembering what he had said. It wasn't a mean speech, but it could have totally been phrased better.

"Me too Monty."

Nigel, Rachel, and their three kids had sprawled across a room at the funeral home quiet. It was unusual since Charlie normally wouldn't shut up. Maggie's eyes downcast yet smiled at Ben waving slightly. Will had his eyes on his on the cards that Charlie had given him but smiled softly up at them.

Finally, a man had walked into the room with a portfolio in his hands. Everyone perked up a little seeing him but still said nothing. Everyone had some connection to Grandfather good and bad. Now it was time to just see how everything would be divided between them.

"Welcome, my name is Stan Stanford," he said leaving the boys to laugh softly looking up from their card game. "And I'm here to read the last will and testament of Montgomery Alistar Uno the First."

Monty had buried his face into Ben's shoulder leaving him to pat his brother's back. Rachel had also hugged Nigel when he leaned on her shoulder. They had really gotten to know each other here and there growing up.

"First we'll start with the youngest," said Stan. "To a Mr. Charles McKenzie Uno this antique spyglass."

He had handed the blond boy a small telescope with the year 1799 engraved on it. Charles just took it and then smiled down at the object before returning to his game of crazy eights.

"Mr. William Montgomery Uno, he leaves behind his pocketknife that he had since he was a child."

Will had stood up and went to collect the knife and the edges still sharp when he checked. The boy just smiled and uttered a small cool from his mouth before continuing their game. This was just weird to them since Grandfather had taken over the world twice and yet a somewhat okay guy otherwise. Charlie would love to spy on the neighbors with that spyglass and Will could always use a pocketknife when he went fishing with his dad and grandpa.

"Miss Margaret Clara Uno, he leaves you his trunk of family diaries, letters, history, and genealogy," he said.

Maggie's eyes just grew wide and her jaw really dropped while an antique chest was also gifted to her containing all of it. He remembered that she liked learning family history. She gave the man a small thank you before eagerly devouring the contents of the chest. Her brothers glaring at her and gave her the we'll talk look.

"To Mrs. Rachel Taylor Uno, he leaves you his family jewelry and his grandmother's antique doll collection."

Doll collection? Nevertheless Rachel just nodded and accepted the jewelry box and chest full of dolls. Great, thought Rachel, and looked to Nigel, Ben, and Monty for what they would get. She had sat back down after kissing her husband briefly.

"To Nigel Montgomery Uno, the key to the house in the French Rivera." Nigel had accepted the key and glanced at Rachel kissing her too. She gave him a side hug too. Everyone still quiet before it was just the remaining brothers.

"To Benedict Murial Uno," he said leaving the boys to laugh a little again covering their mouths. "One million dollars."

The check in an envelope and Ben accepting it with shaking hands. A million dollars was nothing to be upset about, but he didn't get anything. Even the kids got an object to treasure. He even jealously looked at Maggie's chest of great grammy's letters and more. Then again his dad actually left him something which he found himself very pleased with.

"To Montgomery Alistar Uno the second, he leaves everything else," said Stan. "Including but not limited to gran gran's land, his stocks and bonds, and whatever is in his storage units."

Units? Ben and Monty shared a bewildered look at that. What storage units? They weren't told about that. The brothers then looked at Stan holding two keys on a lanyard. Wow, that was a lot to take in. Stan had left and promised that he would open the units for them later in the week once they were settled in for the summer. They were in for a long haul.

Silence once again enveloped the room before it was broken by Maggie.

"Hey, listen to this, your grandmother had a diary entry of putting out mouse traps in the pantry," she said and grinned at Monty and Ben. "Thinking that they were getting into her cookie ingredients. Grandpa didn't you say that you loved to sneak into the kitchen late at night and eat cookies late at night and one time baked?"

Monty had started to laugh and nodded.

"They were the best cookies weren't they Ben?" he said nudging his brother. Ben smiled ruefully up at him.

"You were the one that did that more then me. I'm surprised that we didn't get caught over that," said Ben chortling himself. Then turned to the brunette skimming over pages. "Could I read an entry?"

She handed him over the book and poked around at the other stuff. Ben skimmed over the entries and noted just how many times his grandmother talked about him and Monty. It was special to read that she loved him so much regardless of how strict she could be. Monty read over his shoulder and pointed to something sticking out.

Turning to a new page he found a picture of the two of them with their mom. Isabelle Uno looked tired and spent but it was of Ben as an infant. Monty at four looking down at him proudly and his parents smiling at the camera. On the back in pretty handwriting was the note: Ben at an hour old, Monty four, my husband and I.

"She would have died only a few hours later," said Monty saddened by brightened up. "But it's a great picture, you look as docile as a kitten Ben!"

The comment made him feel a little better and narrowed his eyes at his brother. "But probably ferocious on the inside."

The two laughed and gave each other a rather weak high five.

"Hey dad I think I can tell who you look like," said Maggie giving Nigel a picture.

"Wow, you look a lot papi," said Ben looking at it. It was true, grandfather and Nigel looked a lot alike. Not doppelganger level but they could be brothers alright.

"Except he had hair," said Nigel rubbing his head. "You know I remember really sitting down and getting to know him when I was younger. There was that fishing trip you took us on dad. His line caught something, but he had no clue about what to do and you ending up bringing it out."

He laughed alongside Monty and Ben.

"Although there is one particular thing that stands out. Ben why do I remember wanting to steal your cake so much when I was little?"

The kids and Ben shared a long look before shrugging. "Maybe you liked the way I baked them?" he said with a shrug hoping to brush it off.

"But I don't remember actually eating it though," pushed Nigel. "Wasn't there that time where you…"

"I don't have the greatest memory," said Ben interjecting quickly. "But I'm sure that nothing that crazy happened. It's not like I fed your wife broccoli and put her in a coma for a week that'd be silly."

He weakly laughed as if he made a joke. Nigel and Rachel shared a look with each other and then just shrugged before looking at the other pictures Maggie had passed them. It was more baby pictures of the two of them. Clearly grandfather had more of Ben that he originally thought.

"Oh my gosh," said Monty pointing to a picture of a woman holding their hands. "Do you remember the nanny? She was horrible and we drove her off with all these pranks. I put a live mouse in her shoe."

"Yea I put honey in her brush. We got her fired after only being with us for, what, a week?" Dad didn't even know about the pranks. He just got mad when she accidently turned his favorite shirt pink."

Monty looked at more pictures of the two of them growing up and pointing to more memories. Maggie had whipped her phone out and started to even record some of the stories. It was fun, as Ben didn't even think much about his dad. Instead he was hearing some stories about his mother for the first time. The diaries painting a great picture of her.

Heck there was even stories about the triplets that caused Will and Charlie to perk up and listen closely. This was actually kind of fun and going down memory lane wasn't as painful if they weren't talking about his father.

"If you want you can borrow that diary Ben," said Maggie. "Or keep it, I have a lot to go through and it means a lot to you."

Touched by her generosity he just nodded and pressed the diary to his chest for a minute. Then the cuckoo clock went off somewhere in the funeral home. They had reservations for dinner coming up.

Together the seven stood up and started to head to their cars each person carrying their stuff. Ben looked down at his money and just stuck it in his wallet to put in later. Right now, for the first time in months, he had dinner with his family.

Monty had watched his brother and pulled Nigel and Rachel aside with his plan. A brilliant that would keep them together. A plan that included Ben moving back with them and into their own place together right down the street from Nigel. They would have each other and that was what mattered the most.
