I Don't Own Naruto or High School DXD
Chapter One
It had been a bloody war. God, the leader of heaven took what he knew to be his final breaths. He had lived for a long time and it was time to finally pass on. This wasn't his end. At least, not in a spiritual sense. He had seen what was to transpire. The world would once again need a savior. His successor. The one who would unite everyone under his rule. That was as far as he knew. That was as far as he could see. How his successor would unite everyone, he didn't know. He guessed that was for the best. It would let him die in peace. He hoped that his successor would take the right path. He really did. With that, God took his last breath in this life. With that breath, his body turned into particles of light and disappeared into the void.
Naruto woke up in a cold sweat again. He had dreamed of something that didn't make sense once more. A large scale battle. Bodies everywhere. The thing was that they didn't have normal bodies. There were bodies that had black colored wings, white colored wings and bat-like wings.
Shaking his head off of the morbid sight, Naruto prepared for school. As soon as he was ready he stepped out of his one room apartment and started his half hour walk. As he was walking, he started to get lost in his thoughts.
'Those dreams are getting more and more frequent. What does it even mean?'
Naruto was beyond confused. As he was pondering over his predicament, he suddenly found himself in front of the familiar gates of Kuoh Academy. It was now his second year of high school there. He planned to go to university and be an engineer or doctor or something. He hadn't quite decided yet.
Walking through the halls, he felt goosebumps as he passed by a crimson-haired girl. Naruto of course knew who the girl was. Rias Gremory. One half of the Two Great Ladies of Kuoh. The thing he didn't know was why he always felt goosebumps when he met her. It was one of many mysteries in Naruto's life.
The feeling quickly subsided the further she got. Quickly composing himself, Naruto made his way to his classroom. That was bound to be uncomfortable too. It wasn't that Naruto didn't like class. He liked learning new things. The issue was the same feeling he got with Rias, but this time was with a boy named Yuuto Kiba. It was like all of his senses were going haywire. With Rias it wasn't so bad, because he didn't really interact with her often. In class with somebody that could induce the same type of feeling, it was a bit unnerving. He was a used to it though, so he'd survive.
Classes passed by quickly although Naruto didn't really pay attention. It wasn't much of a problem for him, he was 'gifted' with photographic memory. Honestly it was both a gift and a curse. The good thing was that he didn't really need to pay attention in class, the bad thing was that he couldn't forget some stuff that he would like to forget. Let's leave it at that.
Packing up his bags, Naruto started to make his way out. He didn't notice Kiba staring at him as he headed out.
As Naruto made his way home, he came back to the thoughts that he's had for a while. The dreams that had been plaguing his sleep. He could feel that the answers were on the tip of his tongue, but he just couldn't figure it out. There was also some strange gut feeling within him that said that Rias and Kiba had something to do with it. He didn't know why, and Naruto hated not knowing things.
Arriving back at his apartment, Naruto took off his shirt and started going through some exercise routines. It was something that he had started doing a couple years ago. One day, he just had a strange urge to start getting his body in shape. He didn't really fight the urge since it wasn't harmful in any way. The result of the past few years could be clearly seen in his body. He wasn't overly built like bodybuilders but he had a lean figure. His muscles were rock solid even though they weren't huge. He also had a six pack that looked like you could wash clothes on them. If he was a fighter, people would say that he was built for speed and power.
Finishing his work out routines, Naruto did his homework, ate his dinner, and headed off to bed. A couple of hours after he fell asleep, a bright light suddenly started emitting from his body for a short while before disappearing within him again. This night marked the start of a legend.
Waking up, Naruto felt sore all over. He didn't pay much attention to it. He usually woke up sore after a hard night of working out. Rubbing the back of his head, Naruto made his way to the bathroom. Looking at the mirror in his bathroom, Naruto blinked once. Then blinked again. And again. He then rubbed his eyes to make sure that he wasn't seeing things.
He then reached a hand behind him and felt something unfamiliar on his back. Right. So not only were his visual senses being fooled, but his tactile senses were also being tricked. Could he have developed schizophrenia somehow? He didn't think so. Naruto thought that he was pretty mentally healthy. So if there wasn't something mentally wrong with him, then this was probably real.
Feeling the need to experiment, Naruto decided to try controlling the new pair of things on his back. Trying to flex it like a muscle, Naruto ended up flying straight into his bathroom wall from the force it generated.
"Right. So I apparently have wings now." Naruto muttered to himself. Thank God today was Saturday. He felt like he was about to blackout out of shock. Putting his hand on his hips, Naruto tried to pull his wings into his body. Naruto felt a stinging sensation as the wings gradually disappeared within him. How they fit he didn't know. He decided not to question it. That wasn't the weirdest thing happening today.
'Hello out there. Can you hear me?'
Naruto jolted in shock. Who in the world just said that.
'Ah good. So you can hear me. I know you're in shock right now but-'
Whatever the voice had wanted to say was cut off, because Naruto was freaking out.
"Shit, shit, shit. Maybe I am going insane." Naruto muttered quickly to himself. Not only did he just find out that he somehow had wings, now there was a voice within his head. What the hell was going on?
"Okay. Calm down Naruto. There must be a nice logical explanation for this. Yeah. People can just randomly develop wings. Evolution and all that." Naruto said, trying to convince himself that he wasn't going insane.
'Yeah. That ain't the reason boy. Why don't you sit down somewhere and let me explain.'
"No, no, no. You shut up. You're just something I'm hallucinating. You're not real. Maybe I studied too hard. I should let myself relax more. Yeah, yeah." Naruto stated while taking deep breaths and closing his eyes. When he opened them, he was no longer in his bathroom.
"What the actual fuck?!" Naruto swore as he looked around at his surroundings.
'Oh good. You're here. It was going to be difficult with you being a wimp and hyperventilating about stuff. Why don't you have a seat and let me explain.'
Naruto turned around and nearly fainted at what he saw. A giant humanoid fox with nine tails swishing behind him.
"Okay. I'm definitely hallucinating right now. I'm probably gonna wake up in my bed any second now. God, I must've ate something bad yesterday." Naruto said while laughing maniacally.
The giant fox, apparently having enough of his antics flicked him in the back, sending him crashing into the ground several meters away.
'Can't you just shut up and listen to what I have to say?'
Spitting the dirt out of his mouth, Naruto sat on the ground and started up at the fox.
"Fine! Why don't you try and explain logically what the actual fuck is happening right now?"
Sighing in a frustrated manner, the fox rubbed his forehead.
'Ok. Let's start at the very top. My name is Kurama, and I've been inside your body ever since you were born. I am the one who has been regulating your power so that your body doesn't just spontaneously combust.'
Naruto was about to open his mouth in protest to the nonsense that this fox was spitting out. What kind of power did he even have? He was just a normal human being. Before he could put these thoughts into words, Kurama as he was now known flicked him again.
'Don't you dare try and interrupt me this time. I'm trying to explain something here.'
"Who are you to tell me what to do you overgrown furball!" Naruto shouted while waving his right fist in the air. Before he could say anything more, Naruto suddenly felt an oppressing aura wash over him.
'Sit down before I make you sit down.' Kurama stated calmly while sending Naruto a sharp glare.
Deciding that obeying the giant fox was the best course of action at the moment, Naruto took a seat again.
'As I was saying. I am in charge of regulating your power. Your body as it was before, would've exploded due to the amount of power you contain. Right now I have it locked under the tails you see behind me. The stronger your body is, the more power you can access. Are you with me so far?'
Naruto, remembering the intimidating glare that the fox had sent him earlier, simply nodded.
'Good. You know those goosebumps you get when you're around that red-haired girl and that blond boy at school.' Seeing Naruto looking at him with interest, the fox cracked a grin and continued his explanation.
'That's because they are what are known as devils. In this world we live in, there are multiple different species. We have the devils, the angels, the fallen angels, yokai, dragons and gods. Your body reacts to these species to warn you in case of a threat. We also have, or rather used to have, God with a capital G.'
"What do you mean we used to have God? What happened?" Naruto was now genuinely curious in what the fox was talking about. He was still finding it hard to believe that he was part of a supernatural world, but he didn't think his imagination could conjure the stuff he was hearing.
'I was getting to that. Well you see, around a thousand years ago, there was a massive clash between the devils, angels and the fallen angels. This was a war that resulted in massive casualties on all three sides. The devils lost all four of their leaders, the fallen lost a large number of their forces, and the angels lost their leader, God himself. With the titanic amount of losses, the war ended and now these three factions are standing at an unspoken truce.'
Kurama stayed silent for a moment to allow his words to sink into Naruto's head. Naruto thought on this for a moment. This was probably related to the dreams that he kept on having. When Naruto nodded to show that he understood, Kurama continued with his explanation.
'The thing is Naruto, God can't actually die. His body might have died, but his spirit didn't. It was destined to reincarnate into something new as determined by the Book of Life.'
Naruto thought about what Kurama had just said before he came to an alarming conclusion. With the way Kurama was speaking, there was only one plausible explanation why he was telling him this.
"Are you saying that I'm a reincarnation of God's spirit?" Naruto asked in disbelief.
The crooked grin on Kurama's face was all the answer he needed. Lying down on his back and putting his hands on his face, Naruto tried to process what this all meant for him now.
"Does anybody else know that God is dead?" Naruto asked Kurama.
'God died in secret. As far as everyone is concerned, he's still up in heaven recuperating from the war. I believe that the only ones who know that God is dead are the Archangels. They won't tell anyone in fear of the chaos that would ensue between the factions and the potential threat from other pantheons.'
"Shit. This is a lot to take in." Recomposing himself after sort of getting his thoughts together, Naruto voiced another question.
"Does that mean that I'm God now?"
Deciding to nip this in the bud, Kurama tried to explain it the best he could.
'You aren't God even though you possess all of his powers, even if you can't access it fully. The Book of Life didn't say that a new God would birthed. It stated that a savior would be born from God's power. You have obviously inherited God's power even though you don't know how to use it yet.'
"Savior? What the hell am I saving in this world? Is there some imminent world threat that I should be concerned about right now."
'That even I don't know. The book never stated what you were supposed to save the world from, so let's just let that stew for the moment. The time will get here when it gets here.'
Taking a few deep breaths, Naruto calmed himself down. His emotions had been on a roller coaster ride and he was exhausted now.
"How do you know all this? Haven't you been living within me this whole time? If I don't know all this shit then how do you?"
'Well Naruto, I bet you know some things about the Bible right? I'm the manifestation of the Holy Spirit. I'm here to guide you in behalf of God. So, of course I would know all of the things that God knew, and since he read through the Book of Life, I know about most of the future events that will happen. I don't know what roles you'll play in them, but what I do know is that you're not prepared for it right now. So we're going to have to get started right away.'
Nodding his head in understanding, Naruto was starting to accept that this was now his new reality.
"Fine. Where do we start?"
A vulpine grin was his answer. Naruto felt a foreboding chill crawl up his spine.
The past few weeks felt like hell for Naruto. His body was put through the grinder. There wasn't a day when his body wasn't sore. Kurama may be a manifestation of the Holy Spirit but he was a damn sadist. If it wasn't for his photographic memory, Naruto probably would be failing class right now because of how exhausted he was.
He didn't only train in real life but he also trained in his dreams. Kurama had showed him memories of how God had fought and the different techniques that he could manage to use. Naruto couldn't use most of God's techniques since they required a larger amount of power that Naruto simply couldn't handle yet. His fighting style was coming together though.
He found that God's fighting style didn't really suit him. He preferred a more offensive style rather than a defensive counter attacking style. With Kurama's help, he had managed to develop what would become a rather fearsome fighting style when it was completed.
Hand to hand combat wasn't the only style that he was learning. Kurama had informed him that he apparently had access to a sword. A sword that could only be exclusively used by him. The personal sword of God. Although he didn't have access to it yet, Kurama said that it was a good idea to get used to fighting with a blade. Therefore, Naruto was also practicing using a wooden sword in order to develop an actual blade style. That was going more slowly than he would have liked.
He also realized that over the past few weeks that Kiba and Rias were staring at him more. Perhaps they had sensed something within him. He couldn't rule that out. Naruto also found another source of his goosebumps. A raven-haired girl named Akeno Himejima. She was the other half of the Two Great Ladies of Kuoh. The reason he never noticed the goosebumps with her before was because she could only be found alongside Rias. While he had bumped into Rias several times in school, it was only recently that he had bumped into Akeno. It was for a short while but the feeling of goosebumps were unmistakable.
That night, Naruto had asked Kurama more questions.
"Hey Kurama! Why are there multiple devils in my school? Do they usually gather in one spot?"
'Guess it's time for another lesson Naruto. As I mentioned when we first met, all three factions lost a large amount of their forces during the war.'
Naruto nodded his head at that information.
'Well, the devils invented a system to fix that problem. They created something called the Evil Piece system. What this does essentially, is convert anyone into a devil. No matter the species, as long as they are willing or have been dead for a short while, they can be turned into a devil. The whole system is based on the game of chess. That means that the leader or the King, has a whole set of 15 pieces. This means that theoretically, one could have 15 members within a group, or as the devils call it, a peerage. All the pieces have different strengths, although I can't explain in detail because I don't know enough about it. All the information I have is based on what God has read in the Book of Life and even then the book only ever gives a brief overview of things. If you want to know more then you're probably going to have to ask that Rias girl.'
Accepting all this information with a nod, Naruto found himself wondering about something else.
"You said that all three sides suffered massive casualties. How are the angels and fallen dealing with it?"
'The fallen don't have a system in place, but it's not uncommon for them to try and make angels fall from grace. When an angel falls from grace, they become fallen angels. They also have alliances with exiled exorcists from the church that make up their forces. The angels on the other hand are the worst off between the three factions. They have little to no way of replenishing their forces. Of course they have the church on their side but that could only do so much. The angels forces have been slowly dwindling. With many falling from grace and with God no longer around to create more angels, it's been a hard time for them. Of course they could try to make kids the normal way, but for angels it's way more difficult because they aren't allowed to experience lust during sex, otherwise they would fall."
"Damn the angels have it rough." Naruto commented. How was one supposed to have sex without lust being involved? It seemed his predecessor had made a mistake there.
Kurama snorted at the thoughts that Naruto was currently having. He wasn't wrong, but God had had his reasons back then. What his reasons were, he didn't know, but that person never did anything without reason.
Satisfied with the answers that Kurama had given him, Naruto continued on with his training. It was a good thing he did, because his announcement into the supernatural world was coming soon.
