Jedi Knight Ch. 1: Welcome to Tython

Jedi. Wielders of the light side of the force and guardians of piece. For millennia they have defended the republic from their Jedi temple on Coruscant. But that all changed eight years ago. Their enemies, the Sith, destroyed their Jedi temple and slaughtered hundreds of Jedi on Coruscant. Although a treaty was made before more lives were lost, the damage was almost irreversible.

All the surviving Jedi knights were forced back to Tython, Where the Jedi were originally formed. And to replace all the knights that were killed, dozens of us were called from all over the galaxy to Tython to finish our training and become Jedi knights.

Oh, I guess I forgot to introduce myself. I'm sorry about that. I get a little bit distracted when I talk about Jedi. My name is Izuku Midoriya and I'm a padawan meant to finish my trials on Tython and finally fulfill my dream. To become a Jedi knight!

(X)

Tython. A beautiful planet in the Coreward region filled with lush forests, mountain ranges, and ruins filled with mysteries that have yet to be discovered. Yes, this is the perfect home for a Jedi. It's an honor to even have a chance to see it in person. At least...that's what the current passenger of the republic shuttle breaking the planet's atmosphere believes.

Said passenger is currently fidgeting in place, feeling claustrophobic in his brown garb that every other new padawan like him wears. The gravity of his new situation weighing down on him more than his training saber strapped on his back. He runs a hand through his green hair, a unique color for a human like himself, his anxiousness obvious to anyone that even glances at him.

'This is it.' The young boy thought. 'In just a few moments I'm going to step foot on the most sacred place in the galaxy.' He groaned loudly, with no one else on this shuttle with him except for the droid piloting the aircraft there's no reason to stay quiet. 'I still can't believe this is happening! Me! About to become a padawan to an actual Jedi Master. There were plenty of better choices back on Dantooine!'

"But you're the only one I'm willing to teach. Why? Well...you may not believe it but you have a spark that even a few of us old timers don't have. I'm not gonna let it go to waste." Those words from his soon to be master cut through the sea of doubt that his mind tried to submerge himself in. The way that older man looked at him with such faith wasn't something he was used to.

'I could tell. There was no pity, nothing fake about it either. He really did believe in me.' He feels the shuttle land, a sign that he finally reached his destination. He stands up out of his seat as the ramp is let down, ready for him to walk down and start his new life. 'And I won't let him down!'

With newly gained confidence, he makes his way down the ramp. Exiting the ship onto the landing platform, finally stepping foot on the home of the Jedi. The moment he does his jaw drops, the scenery around him astonishing him. He's seen holo-images and recordings but to finally see the planet's clear skies, it's large statues of Jedi from before, and even hear the sounds of nature around him in person. It's a much more amazing experience. He snaps out of his awe and faces towards the large building several meters before him. Clearly the planet's hangar bay.

'I'll need to check in so they can take me to the Jedi temple. And then...I can finally take my first-' His thoughts are interrupted by his own foot tripping over a piece of equipment, his body heading closer to the ground. 'Step?' He lands face first with a thud, drawing the attention of several workers and droids until they go back to their own duties. The boy groans in a mixture of pain and shame, any confidence he had died with his fall. Thankfully someone else noticed the poor padawan's plight and made their way towards him.

"Are you alright?" The boy lifts his head up and sees an older man with brown hair matching his brown cloak. But what draws his attention is the metal cylinder strapped to his belt. 'A lightsaber! Which means…' The man stretches his hand towards the padawan. "That fall certainly didn't look gentle." The man observed. The boy quickly takes his hand so he can be pulled up before dusting himself off.

"I-I'm fine! Thank you master!" The boy assured the man in front of him and bends down at the waist for a respectful bow. "My name is Izuku Midoriya. I-I am a padawan assigned to study under Jedi master Orgus Din!"

The man smiles, amused by Izuku's formalness. "Well it looks like you're luckier than it seems. I'm Derrin Weller. A Jedi Knight and instructor here on Tython. I was actually meant to retrieve you and personally take you to the Temple...You can stop bowing now."

"A-Ah!" Izuku shoots straight back up with an embarrassed blush on his face. "S-Sorry!"

Derrin waves him off. "It's fine. Nervousness is normal for new students so there's nothing to be embarrassed about. Come on. Your master is eager to see you." Izuku stares at him surprised as he follows after Derrin.

"H-He is?" Izuku questioned.

Derrin nods in confirmation as they enter the hangar bay. "Yes. Although your instructors have mentioned you had some struggles with your ability to connect with the force…" He notices Izuku tense up slightly but chooses not to speak on it. "Master Orgus had nothing but praise for you. He says you're a quick learner with a lightsaber."

Izuku rubs the back of his head, still not used to hearing such positive things about himself. "I-I just study and practice really hard. It's nothing special." He feels a hand on his shoulder and sees Derrin giving him another comforting smile.

"Humility is a good trait to have." Derrin assures him. "But you don't need to understate your own achievements. You will need confidence if you plan on facing the trials ahead of you."

Izuku nods and to Derrin's surprise, a look of determination appears in his eyes. "I'm ready, Master."

"Good. Then let's head to my speeder and-" A beep from his belt interrupts him, causing him to reach for his holoprojector. "Hang on. I'm getting an emergency signal." He responds to the transmission and the blue filtered image of a female Nautolan in padawan robes appears in front of them.

"-under attack! I repeat, we are under attack! Fleshraiders, armed with blasters, have just invaded the training grounds! Send help-" The sound of an explosion is heard in the transmission, cutting off the connection.

"Fleshraiders? Armed with blasters?" Derrin repeats with confusion. "She must be mistaken. Fleshraiders may be smart enough to use basic tools but actual weapons? That can't be possible."

Izuku shakes his head in disagreement. "Whether or not they're using blasters doesn't matter. She was clearly in danger and needs our help."

Derrin raises an eyebrow. "'Our?' So you're volunteering."

Izuku blushes once again, afraid that he overstepped. Metaphorically this time. "W-Well I just assumed that...uh…"

"Good." Derrin cuts him off. "I was already planning on sending every jedi available to help. Including you." He turns around to interact with the computer station behind him. "Do you know how to drive a speeder?" Izuku nods. "Then take mine and head to the training grounds. The coordinates are already in my navigation systems. But don't worry, I'll catch up with you soon with reinforcements." Izuku nods and makes his way to the exit but hears Derrin call out behind him. "May the force be with you."

"...And may the force be with you as well." Izuku replies and sprints out to the launch pads towards Derrin's speeder. He hops over the door into the driver's seat and immediately starts the speeder's engine. The craft floating above the launch pad, ready for him to fly. Izuku grabs the wheel while thinking about the padawan he saw in the transmission, the fear in her voice ringing through his ears. "Please hang on, I'm on my way!" He flies the speeder away from the hangar bay into the skies, dead set on getting to the training grounds as fast as possible despite the dangers he'll have to face.

'I hope my message managed to get through. I don't know how much longer we can hold out.' These fearful thoughts belong to the young Nautolan girl, Tsuyu Asui, who is in the middle of hiding behind several rocks. Hoping that her dark green skin will be useful and help her blend in with foliage around her. But it's not cowardice that causes her to hide, she would gladly risk her life to defend her fellow padawans. But the burn mark on her side only makes her a burden. 'Where did they get the blasters anyway? Did they raid them from the Twi'leks?'

"Where is she?!" A voice exclaimed several meters away from her. Tsuyu, against her better judgement, peeks her head out to see a group of flesh raiders searching the area much to her dismay. Their large brown mutated bi-pedal bodies walking across the rocks and grass, with their razor-sharp teeth on display. Tsuyu can even see blood dripping from their jaws from her position. No doubt it's from their victims. "Hurry up and find her! To cull the weak from our order we cannot let any of them escape." She looks around and sees, to her surprise, a human shouting orders at the flesh raiders.

'Is he the one responsible?' She examines the human and deduces that he is a male with black hair. She also takes note of his red eyes and his pale skin. The lightsaber on his hip also catches her attention. 'Is he...a sith? How did he-' Loud growling interrupts her and she admonishes herself for her lack of awareness because several raiders are aiming their blasters at her position. The human follows their line of sight and smirks, activating his lightsaber and brandishing his...blue blade?!

"Finish her off!" Following his command, each raider fires their blasters at Tsuyu. The bolts destroying her cover, forcing her to cover her mouth from the dust forming. Realizing she needs to escape as fast as possible; she surveys the area for another hiding spot and sees a cave opening.

'That's gonna have to do.' She concentrates and calls on her connection to the force, focusing its power to her palms. She releases it onto the rocks hiding her in a wave of kinetic energy, sending large pieces of stone and dirt flying at her pursuers which causes them to hold their fire. She doesn't stick around to see the results of her distraction and she leaps towards the cave entrance, using force augmentation to gain more distance.

"After her!" The human shouts. "We can't let her escape again!" Tsuyu internally prays to the living force. Begging for someone to help her as she runs deeper into the cave.

The first word that comes to mind when he lands at the training grounds is chaos. Both screaming and blaster fire echoing across the region, even to his relatively safer position. He notices his hands trembling in fear and grips them tightly with each other to try to calm his nerves.

'I-I can't back out now. There are still people in trouble, and Jedi don't run away from trouble!'

"Padawan! Over here!" Izuku sees a wounded Jedi Knight leaning on the rails of the platform that leads to the fields of the training grounds. He rushes over, observing him from head to toe and can see several burns and bruises on his body. As well as a stab wound in his thigh. Most likely from a Vibroblade.

"We n-need to get you to a medic r-right away!" Izuku nervously shouts. He tries to help him, but the knight brushes him off.

"Forget about me. There are a group of padawans hiding out in the hills. We were practicing telekinesis, but flesh raiders ambushed us and we got separated." He groans in pain much to Izuku's concern, but he still brings out his holoprojector. "Take this. There's a map of the area on it. You...You must hurry!" Izuku is hesitant to leave him but he nods in confirmation. But he still hands him a first aid case that he grabbed from Darren's speeder.

"I'll find them. But please, get yourself patched up." He runs off into the training-now turned battle grounds before the Knight can object to his decision. Not even a minute of searching passes and he already runs into a group of flesh raiders. He sees that the one in front is wearing some kind of leather armor, a sign of its superiority. But Izuku doesn't dwell on it any further because they all roar at the sight of him and draw their blaster pistols. "Oh crap!"

They all open fire and Izuku dives out of the way behind a tree. Knowing just how much damage a normal blaster can cause, Izuku doesn't stay hidden in one spot and continues running. He admits he made the right choice when he hears the tree get destroyed behind him. He then feels something strange with his mind, almost as if something is warning him telling him to… 'DUCK!' He lowers his head, just in time as a blaster bolt flies over him while singeing a few strands of his hair. He looks back to see the raiders chasing after him. 'They're faster than they look! But the way they're moving, it's almost too fast. Almost like something is helping them-' He feels another warning from the force but it's too late. He loses his footing and ends falling off a cliff ahead of him towards the river.

"AAAAHHHH!" He screams the whole way down until he finally lands with a loud splash. He almost blacks out from the impact but he manages to stay conscious so he can swim back to the surface before he drowns. He sees a beachhead and swims towards it, ignoring the pain in his body. He reaches dry land and breathes in heavily as he rests on his knees. "I...I should've probably said yes to learning those healing techniques from Mo-UGH!" He lets out a noise of disgust due to a foul stench invading his nostrils. "What is the heck is...that…" His sentence trails off when he sees more flesh raiders surrounding a wooden cage. They spot him as well unfortunately as they all growl and bare their fangs while pulling out their vibroblades. Thankfully none of them seem to have a blaster.

'Okay Izuku. You can do this, just remember your training.' Izuku removes his training saber from his back and flips it's switch on to the highest setting. Unlike training saber's given to younglings, the ones used by padawans had a much higher electrical output. Capable of either incapacitating or even killing targets. Izuku himself learned that the hard way when he accidentally knocked himself out for ten hours during practice.

Focusing on the enemies in front of him, taking note that there are three. Each with a weapon of their own he gets into the stance for the correct form for this situation. Wielding his blade with two hands on his right side, his right foot back and left foot extended to the side. A textbook Form 3 parrying stance. A flesh raider charges him just as he finishes, a downward slash aimed right at his head. The strike instead bounces off his saber which he quickly brought up in perfect blocking position. The flesh raider stumbles back, caught off guard by his maneuver, but it rushes Izuku again. Hammering Izuku with stronger, but sloppy, attacks that Izuku easily defends against. Izuku takes note of the other two raiders rushing towards him, clearly planning on overwhelming him with numbers.

'Can't let that happen!' He steps back to avoid a wild swing from the opponent in front of him and continues moving backwards, simultaneously dodging and avoiding each strike. Thankfully the flesh raider doesn't notice exactly where he's leading him to. He sidesteps an overhead swing, letting the raider's momentum carry itself right into the river. Izuku doesn't focus on that and rushes the two raiders, both surprised by Izuku's aggression and their pack member being tricked so easily. One of the raiders raises its blade hastily in a poor excuse for a block. Izuku recalls his practice with Form 4 and uses the force to augment his strength, allowing him to send the raiders blade flying out of its hand with a single upward sword swing. Without its weapon, it can't defend itself from a strike to its head. Taking the raider out of the fight for good. The other raider roars in anger and tries to behead Izuku who simply ducks while striking its leg, bringing it to their knees and leaving it vulnerable to wide swipe to its head as well.

'That's two down. One to go.' He looks back to the river and sees the raider crawl out of the water. Not wanting to take any chances, Izuku sprints down to the raider and leaps into the air with his blade raised high over his head. Just as the raider looked up, Izuku brought his sword down onto his chest. The impact sending the raider's corpse back into the water. Izuku pants and does another sweep of the area. When he sees that he's finally all alone, he deactivated his blade and let out a sigh of relief.

"Finally. That was actually pretty close-argh! What is that?!" He pinches his nose again and looks around. He spots the wooden cage the raiders were guarding and moves closer, steeling himself for whatever he may discover. Unfortunately, he could never have been ready for the corpse inside the cage. Izuku resists the urge to vomit. He has seen plenty of injuries and dead animals but never another dead person. He reluctantly looks closer, resolving himself to finding out the identity of the dead person.

"T-Those clothes. I-It's a padawan. Those raiders must have captured them and...and tortured them to death." Izuku clenches his fists, suddenly feeling anger towards the raiders. He knows it's against the Jedi code, but he can't help himself. To see other young men and women like him hunted by these...monsters, infuriates him to no end. "This can't be the only one. There are probably more around here." He brings out his holomap and sees that the hill he's supposed to go to is towards the west. "Hopefully I can find more on my way to the group. And if they're still alive...I'll save them!" With a newfound resolve, Izuku heads west. Determined to put an end to this madness no matter what. Although this was most certainly not planned, Izuku simply accepts that this may be his first trial to become a Jedi Knight. And this is a trial he will overcome.

To Be Continued...

Author's Note: Hello! To anyone that has read this chapter, I thank you because this is the first fanfiction I've ever written and posted on this site. As a fan of both Star Wars and My Hero Academia, this is a project that I'm going to give 100% percent in finishing and making sure it's up to snuff in terms of quality. This chapter was Beta-Read by my friend and now fellow author, The 3rd Dragneel. Please go to his profile and give his works a read as well. Especially if you are a fan of Fairy Tail or My Hero Academia. Now as for the story itself I plan on doing all 8 character's storylines of the main game in Star Wars The Old Republic. As for expansions like the Hutt Cartel and Shadow of Revan, those are a strong maybe. Flashpoints will also be done in this story. As for the characters, I warn everyone that certain MHA ones may act a little OOC. Both because this is fanfiction and also because each one has been born in the Star Wars universe in different circumstances so they may do things their canon counterparts wouldn't do. But I'll do my best to stay as true to their core personality trait and give them the respect they deserve because I HATE character bashing. Again, thank you for reading.
