Prologue: The Burdened Place
The sun was slowly rising as the Grand Master of the Temple of the Miraculous led a young guardian towards the room of the Miracle Boxes. Casting a glance towards the young guardian who was rubbing his eyes, the Grand Master spoke, "Wang, I hope you know why I have awoken you this lovely morning." Grand Master Li Wei said, opening a door for the young boy to walk through, yawning once again, and rubbing his eye, Fu responded, "To prepare breakfast?" He answered, cracking open one brown eye.
The Master chuckled, tipping his head forwards, "No, not quite. Though, I'm sure we could all do with some breakfast." The Master said, starting to laugh. Fu laughed as well, large bellies of laughter illuminating the halls.
"I've woken you in order to carry out a task. The Board of Miraculous Wielders has decided that we will test your will to be guardian, seeing you are the most promising of this year's lot." Master Li said, looking forward. Fu, looked down and blushed, not expecting praise from the Grand Master himself and even felt guilty when he realised that he wasn't missing his parents as much in that moment. Clearing his throat, Fu asked a question, "What test will I be doing, Master Li?" Fu said, bouncing on his feet.
"One that requires a deal of great patience, perseverance and, undoubtedly, will." Li said. Opening a door, Fu was led to a large, circular room with a see through floor. Walking to the middle, he saw an ornately decorated miracle box across him.
"Wang Fu, you will guard the Miracle box of the Black Cat and Ladybug Miraculous for 24 hours. This will test your will as guardian and if you pass, you will go onto the final steps of your studies. Do you accept?" Li commandeered, his eyes held steadfast on the young boy in the middle of the room. Feeling as if a hundred eyes were on him, Fu gulped.
'If I accept then I can get out of the Temple and see Mama and Papa sooner, if I refuse I go a whole day with humiliation from the others and disappointment from Shang Lu. Huh, the choice is really very easy.'
Looking the Master in the eye, Fu spoke, a quaver in his voice, "I accept, Great Master." The Master nodded but yelled,"SAY IT WITH CONVICTION WANG!" And Fu responded clearly enough for the whole Temple to hear, "I ACCEPT, GREAT MASTER!"
Nodding, the Master instructed Fu to sit and handed him his staff, "You will meditate in order to gather the Miracle Boxes energy. Once you have collected enough a select number of kwamis will come out of the box. If they find you worthy, they will hand their Miraculous to you and you will then go under tutorship of a previous guardian who has wielded the same miraculous before. But first you must stay here, the only thing I will allow you to have with you is your staff, understood?" Fu nodded, scared at the expression on the Grand Masters face, "Good. These are ancient rules, that are not meant to be broken. I have faith that you will live up to expectations." Li Wei said, his face softening into a smile. Turning heel, he left the room to Fu.
Glancing nervously at the box, Fu breathed in, clutching his apprentices staff, he started to meditate, relaxing his mind and loosening his limbs he fell into a state of calm.
Back with the Great Master, he walked down the corridors of the Temple, nodding to the boys that had awakened. Opening a large door with his slender fingers, he entered.
Looking around he noticed half of his supreme board there, heading towards the head of the table he sat, waiting for the other guardians to arrive. At the table sat the Guardians of The Ladybug, Bee, Fox and Butterfly Miraculous. Smiling at their antics as the Fox played a few tricks on the Butterfly who was not amused, the others came in. Either yawning or grinning at the chatter.
Clearing his throat, the Master spoke, bringing attention to himself, "Guardians. I am pleased to inform you that Wang Fu has accepted his test." The other Guardians nodded, remembering to never speak their formal names in case of enemy spies. "Excellent, I hope that we will have a new order of Guardians soon." Said the Turtle, looking over at the others.
The Guardians all nodded, the Cat tipping backwards and lounging, ignoring the vehement glares of his wife, the Ladybug, who shot him pointed looks. Standing, and the others quick to follow, Master Li dismissed them, telling them to get back to their looking after students. Heading back to his chambers, the Master hoped Fu would be able to live up to his expectations as Guardian.
A few hours had passed since Fu had sat in the room, resilient during it all and now it was nearing afternoon. Finally giving in, Fu grumbled to himself, not able to meditate due to the large growls his stomach kept making. Growling to himself, Fu thought about how to resolve his hunger. 'I'm so hungry, I can't stay like this any longer! Huh! What if I use one of the Miraculous to fetch me food!'
Determined, Fu took hold of his staff and reached out, tentatively lifting the lid up. Spotting the Peacock Miraculous, the very same one he had learned about in all his lessons, he shimmied it onto the flat side of his staff, bringing it closer to him. Finally in his hands, he put it on, and was met by a bright sphere of light, though he had learnt about what happened during the transformation he was shocked to see the little blue-skinned, large-headed creature staring back at him with pink eyes. Smiling nervously, Fu spoke, "Er, hello?" The Kwami wiggled, smiling she spoke, "Hello! Are you my new wielder? You seem shier than my other wielders, but no worry! I can deal with that problem! So what's your name? Mine's Duusu! I- " and she was cut off as she zipped into the brooch, transforming Fu into a Peacock suit.
Guilty, he chose a feather from his fan, the instinct embedded in the miraculous and so into the wielder.
Closing his hands around the feather, the energy swarmed around, turning the feather purple and causing it to land on Fu's staff. Enveloped, a blob of energy started to drip out of the head of the staff, growing into a sentimonster.
Talking to it, Fu instructed the sentimonster to go into the kitchens in order to find something to eat. Leaving the room, the sentimonster left in order to find some grub. Fu stood waiting in the room, wondering where his sentimonster was when he heard screams. Activating his telepathic connection he looked through the sentimonsters eyes, and saw the destruction that it had created.
Gasping in shock, he ripped the brooch off, and reached for the Miracle box in order to stuff the Peacock back in. Clutching the Miracle Box to his chest, Fu turned to the doors that had burst open with a panting Master Li at them, no longer exerting his calm demeanour now instead a panicked one.
"FU! RUN AND TAKE THE BOX! THE MONSTER WILL COME FOR IT!" Li yelled heading across from Fu and opening a hidden door. Fu stammered, "W...What happened? Why are we running?!"
Li looked back, opening the door and pushing Fu outside, handing him a book as well, "Fu, you have served our Temple well. But now, it is time for you to become a guardian."
But Fu stammered, "But What-" the Master looked Fu dead in the eye as the flames surrounded him, "I, Li Wei, relinquish the Miracle Box and proclaim Wang Fu the new Guardian of the Miraculous!"
"NO!!!" Fu shouted as the flames engulfed the Temple, leaving Fu by himself as an entire order of present and future Guardians had become engulfed in flames because of his mistake.
Running with the grimoire, with tears in his eyes and his breath hurried Fu ran with all his might, jumping over a ledge and only realising too late as the grimoire fell out of his grasp. Reaching, and failing to grasp it across the ledge he slipped, causing the Miracle box to fling open and the Moth and Fox Miraculous to fall as well, forever hidden in the snow.
Finally fed up with this, whatever this was, Fu cried, letting out a heart wrenching sob as the realisation of what had transpired began to sink in. Scooting over to the Miracle Box, he took in the sight of the Bee, Peacock, Turtle, Ladybug and Cat Miraculous still in their places. Relieved, he closed the box and looked back at the burning Temple behind him.
Looking through the snow, he could neither find the grimoire or the Moth and Fox Miraculous. Sighing, and holding back another onslaught of tears, Fu carried on, feeling the weight of burden his mistakes had cost him upon his shoulders.
A/N: Hope you liked that, cause I've always wanted to do an au like this.
How do you think things will transpire from here?
Let me know (if you want!)
For clarification in the Eastern world Wang would be the Fu's surname and Fu the forename.
