White Day
Ok, I saw too many fan art for this holiday for me not to do something with it!
For those that don't know, in Japan it is usually just the girls that give chocolates to the boys on Valentine's and 'White Day' is the day when the boys thank the girls for the chocolates they received by gifting them something back.
With that said, let's get right on it!
Gakuen AU, no demons, I hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: I don't own Kimetsu no Yaiba.
Kamado Tanjiro smiled as he finished packing his school supplies and prepared to leave.
'Alright, everything should be ready.' He rummaged through his bag and found a small box wrapped in a light purple colored paper. 'I hope she likes it.' With that, he grabbed his bag and exited the classroom, heading straight towards the school entrance.
Unsurprisingly, she was already there waiting for him.
"Kanao!" The Kamado called out as he hastened his pace. "Sorry, were you waiting too long?"
"A bit but Aoi was keeping me company until a few minutes ago." The Tsuyuri answered him with a smile. "I told her to go ahead, since we made plans."
"I see, sorry that it took me a bit."
"It's no problem, shall we go?"
"Before that." The red haired teen showed her the box. "For you, thanks for the chocolates on Valentine."
"Thank you." The girl with the butterfly ornament answered, taking the box. "Can I open it?"
"Ah, could you please wait for a bit? There is somewhere I want to take you first." Tanjiro said.
Kanao nodded and carefully placed the box in her bag.
"Where are we going?"
"That's a surprise." Tanjiro said, taking her hand. "Let's go."
Tanjiro and Kanao walked around the city while talking, about their friends, schoolwork, anything that came to mind.
Kanao tried to get answers about where they were going but Tanjiro would only repeat 'it's a surprise' while smiling.
"Ah, Kanao, can you wait here for a bit?" The Kamado suddenly requested.
"Is something wrong?"
"No, just part of the surprise, I'll be right back, okay?"
"Okay." She nodded.
Tanjiro gave her a quick kiss on the cheek before running off somewhere.
'Really, what's this surprise he is talking about?' The Tsuyuri wondered with puckered eyebrows.
She didn't have much time to think since, not three minutes later, Tanjiro came back, carrying a box under one arm.
"…you're not going to tell me what's in that box, are you?" She asked with a knowing grin.
"Nope, you'll have to wait to find out." He answered. "It'll be worth the wait, I promise."
"Alright, I trust you." Kanao knew better than trying to pry that information out of him. Tanjiro can't hide the fact that he knows a secret but getting him to tell you what the secret is, is harder than getting Inosuke to stay quite during a school day.
The red haired teen took his girlfriend's hand once more and the two continued their walk.
They eventually arrived at a park a bit out of the way from their homes, the place that Tanjiro wanted to take her to.
"Alright, this should be good." The Kamado thought out loud. "Give me a second Kanao." He let go of her hand and began rummaging through his bag, eventually taking out a large blanket that he quickly set up on the ground. "Take a seat." He said just before doing that.
The Tsuyuri followed suit, sitting at his left, their shoulders almost touching.
"So, can you tell me what's in that box now?" She asked with a smile.
"Yeah, I guess I can." The red haired teen set down the box in front of him and removed the top revealing.
"Flowers?" Kanao said a bit confused, it's not that it was weird for Tanjiro to give her flowers but they looked… like they were plucked from a garden. She recognized White Anemone, some Kaneshon (carnation or clove pink), several Wasurenagusa (forget-me-not or Scorpion grasses), Sagiso (white egret flower), and White lilies but all of them just there, in the box, not arranged in a bouquet. "Are they for me?"
"Not yet." Tanjiro answered smiling, earning another puzzled look. "You'll see what I mean in a minute, sorry for asking this but could you look away?"
"Alright…" Kanao trailed off before moving behind Tanjiro and sit with her back against his, immediately hearing how he took the flowers from the box and began to do whatever he was doing. "Something tells me this surprise you have isn't something you came up with just a week ago, right?"
"Hehe, it was in the works for longer than that, I only managed to have everything ready around four days ago, though." He answered, the sound of him working never stopping. "I kept thinking how I can return the favor for Valentines but nothing seemed right to me… until I came up with this."
"I see… wait, so the box you gave me before wasn't you returning the favor?"
"It's a part of it… oh, you can open it now if you want." He said.
Kanao took him on his offer and took out the box from her bag, carefully undoing the wrapping and opening the lid.
"This is… how did you know?"
"You kept staring at it one time we went out."
Inside the box was butterfly hair ornament, similar to the one she always wears, but a brighter pink and the inside of the wings painted purple.
"To be honest, I wasn't sure which one you were staring at so I asked Kanae-san and Shinobu-san if they knew, I hope it's the right one."
"Y-yes, it's beautiful." Kanao confirmed, taking the ornament in her hands, her smile widening by the second.
"Alright, done!" Tanjiro exclaimed, taking her out of her trance. "You can turn around now."
Kanao did as told and saw what Tanjiro had been working on.
"I put an order yesterday so the flower shop had the flowers ready and I asked Makomo to teach me two weeks ago; do you like it?" In his hands, made from all the flowers inside the box, is a flower crown.
"It's… so beautiful…" The purple eyed girl trailed off, her eyes gleaming at the sight of the crown.
"May I?" Kanao nodded and Tanjiro gently placed the flower crown on top of her head. "You look beautiful." The Kamado said with a small blush and a sincere smile.
"Th-thank you…" The Tsuyuri trailed off again, her face red but with a wide and beautiful smile adorning it.
Tanjiro moved to sit beside her and moved his arm around her back to bring her closer, something she did on her own before he had completed the motion.
"Ne, Tanjiro."
"Hm?"
"I… please don't misunderstand, the flowers and the ornament are beautiful and I'm really happy but… isn't this a bit too much? It couldn't have been cheap."
"I had some savings and Makomo taught me free of charge." The red haired teen assured her.
"Still, you didn't have to go this far, I don't think the chocolates I gave you were this valuable."
"…Kanao, do you know what White Day is?"
"Eh? It's… a holiday in which the men thank the women for the chocolates given in Valentine's." The Tsuyuri answered; she knows what it is of course, but she was a bit weirded out at the question.
"Exactly, this is just my way of thanking you."
"But… even with the 'give back the triple' rule, this still seems a bit much."
"…Kanao, I think you're misunderstanding something." Tanjiro began, moving to sit in front of her and locking gazes with her, his hands gently cupping her face so she doesn't look away. "I am beyond happy, overjoyed… I don't think I know the words to express just how happy I am that I'm the person you gave chocolates to on Valentine's; it's not because of how good the chocolates were, they were really good, don't get me wrong, but it's the fact that you gave them to me that made me so happy." He said with a gentle smile, his red orbs never leaving her purple ones. "So, I want to make you at least as happy as I am, if we go by the 'give back the triple' rule, then I am not even close to repaying you yet." The Kamado finished.
All of it was true, Tanjiro is not someone that measures things on how much they cost but in how much happiness it will bring to the recipient.
For Kanao, someone he knows that loves flowers and that he saw look at the butterfly ornaments, this is the best gift he is able to give her. Buying a bouquet might have been enough but he didn't feel like it was, he wanted to give her something more personal than that, hence how he came up with the idea of a flower crown made of those particular flowers; White Anemone to represent sincerity, Kaneshon to represent fascination, Sagiso for hoping to be with her even in dreams, White lilies for purity and Wasurenagusa for true love.
It took time to research the flowers and their meanings, not to mention learning how to properly make flower crowns, bless Makomo for her patience, but it was more than worth it, just the smile that she gave him when he put the crown on top of her head made it all worth it.
"…you're wrong." Kanao said, a wide smile on her face and some tears threatening to fall from her eyes. "You've already made me happier than you think… but… can I ask for one thing?"
"What is it?" Tanjiro asked, his expression almost mirroring hers.
The black haired girl simply closed her eyes and leaned forward slightly; Tanjiro quickly got the message and did the same before brushing his lips against hers in a kiss.
A minute later, they separated and opened their eyes again, meeting the other's gaze.
"I'm not sure I can count that as part of 'returning the favor'." Tanjiro said with a chuckle.
"Let me decide that." Kanao answered with a giggle.
Done!
Just fresh out of the oven and so happy I wrote it~
By the way, all the flower meanings I mentioned are according to the internet, if you know of a different meaning for those same flowers… sorry, I just did a google search and that's what came up.
As always, I hope you enjoyed and don't forget to comment!
Until next time!
