EPISODE 1: A Midnight Call

Sinnoh Region, Jubilife City

Night completely covers the sky and luminous neon lights were seen lined up across the city.

Pokemon were bustling about in their usual business, walking in distinct directions whilst talking to one another.

I can hear murmurs of their conversations as I pass them by. I slightly lower my head as I walk toward where I am supposed to be going. I just don't want to be distracted.

"It's always nice to see bright lights every once in a while," I murmur as I pass along the teal colored array of streetlights. They seemed to provide a pathway to where I am headed.

After a few paces, I now stumbled into my destination for the night, my apartment. It was the only dimmed room in the otherwise 3 story structure.

I walk up the steps of the dimmed building as I work my way up my consistently empty room. Light footsteps can be heard on the marble floors as I pass along hallways leading to my empty corner of the building.

As I reached and opened the door to my dimly lit room, I stumbled upon my usual setting. Clothes were scattered across the couch and my desktop was sitting right beside the window. I took off my trench coat and put it in the scattered ecosystem of clothes on the couch.

Before drifting off to my nightly shut-eye schedule I shot a glance at my window, observing the scenery outside.

The city was filled with bright neon lights that completely covered the darkness of the night sky and overhead was the soft bluish glow of moonlight overseeing the still and moving lights.

It wasn't uncommon to see such scenery at midnight but it is a rather wholesome thing to see every now and then.

I drifted off to my bed located just across the couch feeling weary after a day's worth of work. I set my phone in the night stand beside my bed for easy access in the event of any ringing.

Not a few moments into my pleasant slumber and I was startled by the sound of my

phone painfully ringing within low proximity. I hastily picked it up as I knew it was an urgent call.

"Hello," I said in an obviously drowsy voice.

"Devinson, so glad you picked up. This is your supervisor speaking. Just wanted to ask a favor for you." It was Axiom Hearthstead, a workaholic Pangoro who happens to be my supervisor.

He works at the vigilante department that I work in as the guy who hands out the missions or directs them to the mission board if there's a surplus of them. It was quite surprising for him to work at this hour when his shift ends at nine in the evening.

"At this hour? I thought the day vigilante department was closed for the night."

"Really sorry for the sudden disruption but this is really important. There is a mission to be handled and you seem to be my only contact available at this time."

"You can't deploy me when I just timed out from the facility about an hour ago." I explained in a slightly exasperated tone.

Even though I could just time in but no sane 'mon would just do that after his/her shift has finished.

"Listen, I know it's the end of your shift but can you please just fill this in for me. Don't worry, I'll give you a compromise after."

"Fine, I'll be there as soon as I can." I sighed before turning off my phone.

I hurriedly exited the apartment in order to get to the last electric train on schedule.

Luckily I was right on time since it was 5 minutes before the next ride which was thirty minutes after midnight.

It took about 15 minutes to travel from the station to the building that I worked in. It was still fully lit up seeing as it was open for 24 hours with Pokemon still bustling about and running errands while some were hurriedly running in and out.

I paced towards the entrance and I was met with a familiar face as I was walking straight to the elevator.

"Cipher? What are you doing here? You came way too early for work."

It was Elaina Xenus, a calm and collected Braixen and my frequent mission partner. She was ready to leave the building and head home when she noticed me.

"Ohh uhh Hi again, Elaina, I just received an 'emergency' call from the Big Boss and I came here as fast as I could."

"It was not surprisingly exhausting at this hour of the night," I added.

"Well good luck then, I'll be heading off for the night."

"Guess I'll see you on Monday," I said reassuringly.

I continued on to the elevator and pressed the button to prompt me to go to the third floor. The boss' office is still brightly lit up and I can see through the transparent doors that he is anticipating me coming there.

"Cipher, glad you arrived." Axiom said in a slightly excited tone. Ignoring the fact that he made me disrupt my sleep pattern to accomplish a single mission.

"This better be worth my time."

"Extra credit is a good pay-off, trust me."

He then went to the direction of the waiting area where my supposed client was at, which was a few paces from the right of the office.

A lone Liligant was there, she looked rather worried about something that I have yet to know. She just stared blankly into the wall in front of her until the sound of our footsteps alerted her to our presence.

I can sense the concern in her face as she looked up to our direction.

"Miss Gallius, this is Mr. Devinson and he will be the one who will assist you."

"Hi there, miss, hopefully I can be of help to you."

"I hope so too, this dilemma is really huge for me to handle." The Liligant responded shyly.

Axiom accompanied us to the building's exit in order for me to proceed to my "overtimed" duty and said something to me before I exited the building.

"Good luck on your mission Devinson, make sure her problem is resolved and everything goes well for her."

I gave him a reassuring wave as a response to what he said and continued on.

"Don't worry miss, I'm certain that I'm the 'mon for this job. Take my word for it." I said as I looked to the direction of my client.
