What we want
Chapter 1
Sai couldn't believe how unhealthy Naruto still was, but Sakura was not surprised by this anymore. They were at Ramen Icharaku, enjoying a late dinner and Naruto was ordering his third bowl of ramen. Sakura had thought that maybe after marrying Hinata, he would realize how horrible his eating habits were, but that didn't happened at all. In fact, Hinata would also eat the same or more amount of ramen as him.
She laughed at this thought, they were truly made for each other.
She carried on eating the rest of her ramen and tried not to be disturbed by Naruto's slurping. At least we were able to hang out tonight, she thought happily.
The three of them have been trying to meet in the last couple of days but between missions, meetings and hospital shifts, it turned out to be a real challenge.
Finally after bribing some people and making some empty promises, they set up a day when responsibilities wouldn't interfere.
Sakura was thrilled to see her teammates that night. She couldn't recall the last time they had all got together and she sighed as she realized how busy each of them had become. She also had to consider that one of them was married and the other just became engaged to her best friend. She was happy for them, love was something they both missed during their childhood as orphans, but now they were on their way to have their own families.
Sakura smiled. They deserve it, she thought.
Suddenly, Naruto bursted our laughing and Sakura snapped back to their conversation. He was telling Sai an old story's when they were still genin, but he was omitting some important facts.
"Hey Naruto, that ain't right, you actually transformed into a woman and pretended you had drowned. Hinata thought for a moment that he was going to kiss you and she was freaking out by this." She added, with a smirk.
"Ugh. No. Don't say it like that. That's not funny" Naruto said with a disgusted face. "He definitely wasn't going to give me mouth to mouth resuscitation," he took a slurp of his ramen. "To be honest, I really don't know what I was thinking, in my head it made more sense".
"You definitely were not thinking."
"True" Naruto chuckled.
"I still don't get it," Sai interrupted. "What's behind Kakashi's mask then?" He asked, frowning his face.
"That's what I've been telling you." Naruto turned to him. "I don't know! I think everyone know what's behind except us," He said laughing.
They kept talking about Kakashi's real face for a while and then their moved to other stories. The three of them kept laughing loudly about some idiotic adventure they recently had and after a while, they were the only ones still at Icharaku.
"I should get going," Sakura said after finishing her bowl of ramen. "I have an early shift tomorrow and I guess you guys are also busy." The other two shinobis nodded their heads in agreement. They all left together and walked for a little before Sakura waved them goodbyes and walked down the street. Her place was only a few blocks ahead.
She liked walking on this part of the village, it was newer than the rest of Konoha and it was also one of the nicest neighbourhoods. She had stumbled upon by accident one time after her hospital shift and before someone could say something about it, she moved out her parent's house into a small apartment in the second floor of a three floor building.
She loved her place, but the only thing that she found disheartening was that everyone still lived in the old part of Konoha, so she didn't get see her friends as much as she wanted, except for Ino who was working at the hospital as well.
That was the reason she was so excited to see her former teammates that day, she missed them a lot.
Sakura then slowed her steps and stopped. Her hand touched lightly where her purple seal was and she lifted her gaze to the starry sky.
I'll see you soon... Thank you, Sasuke had said.
She tried not to think about him that often, but she missed him as well. Hopefully she might get to see him soon.
She looked down from the sky and resumed her walk.
She didn't noticed the small hawk making its way to the Hokage's office.
The following day, Sakura spend most of her day at the children's therapy center. She did some check ups on some children that just arrived for the Land of Grass, and then she attended a few meetings with the heads of the departments of the hospital. After she was done there, the only thing left to do was to check on some shinobis who were in recovery. For that, she needed their files, so she headed to her office where she left them.
When she arrived, she was greeted by two young medics shouting at each other, a brown short hair girl sitting on the floor with a bunch of scrolls around her, and a dark blue hair boy with a book in his lap, sitting on the only couch of her office.
After the war, medical ninjas were still low in numbers during missions, so Tsunade pushed her idea of including one medic per team by introducing a program focused to learn and improve medical ninjutsu for chūnin and genin. When Kakashi took over as Hokage, he just made sure the program kept running and had available funds.
Sakura and Ino helped teaching the younger ranks when the program started. After a while Ino was made supervisor, so it became a requirement to pass Ino's practices in order to advance to the more complex medical ninjutsu. Sakura would made fun of Ino sometimes for how intense she was as a mentor, but Ino would answered back that she was no different, but worse. Sakura aside from her missions, was in charge of the children's therapy center, taught advanced medical ninjutsu and was also busy being the lead medic when shinobis were severely injured.
A few months ago a group of chūnins joined the program and two of them started to followed Sakura mostly everywhere. They started to help her in small tasks around the hospital, which didn't bother Sakura at all, but one day she lost her patience when she caught them fighting outside her office.
"You guys should focus more on your chakra control rather that being worried if I had my morning coffee" she snapped.
Both chūnins couldn't hide their embarrassment and after that incident, they stopped following her. To her surprise, they had listened to her and she was the first to notice when they started to stand out from the rest of the class.
"You are kinda like their idol, of course they wanted to stick around you" Ino whispered once when they were evaluating the effectiveness of their medical ninjutsu.
Sakura saw the same determination she had when she asked Tsunade to take her as an apprentice. She then decided to take them under her wing as well and when injured shinobis returned from missions, she always sought those two to assist her.
That's how Ami and Haru became her first apprentices.
Ami's healing technique was almost in the same level as a jounin. She had this easygoing personality, that led her to be very social but that constantly distracted when she wasn't using her medical ninjutsu. But when there was an emergency, her mindset was totally different, she was focused solely in the patient and she was quick to identify which vital points to heal first.
Haru wasn't as good as Ami in that matter, but he had a sharp mind and could easily diagnose patients who didn't required immediate attention and were suffering more complex illnesses. He had also a vast knowledge of medicines and herbs and he would put that information in good use when trying to develop new treatments. For that reason, he would stay longer hours in the hospital just to do more research. When Sakura met him for the first time, he reminded of her because he would hide his true thoughts, but being around Ami exposed him as a very loud person, specially when he was complaining.
Sakura noticed how both of them worked great as a team, but they were constantly fighting, which would usually made her either laughed or cursed herself for taking them as her apprentices.
Sakura frowned at the two of them when she stepped in her office. Both medics lowered their gaze embarrassed.
She chuckle at this sight, then she walked to her desk. "I need to take a quick look at some files but after that, you can come with me to take look at the recovery of some patients" she said with a smile.
Both nin-medics nodded and without saying a word, they went back to their respective activities.
Sakura sat down and started shuffling through some of the files when Ino stepped in her office.
"Forehead, I hope I' m not ... Oh, hi there!" Ino said surprised while looking at the two young medics, she greeted Ami happily but when she turned to Haru she scowled at him. Ami snorted at this and looked away trying to cover her laugh with her hands, Haru stared at her with anger.
Ino rolled her eyes and turned her head back to Sakura. "Right. I need you to look at these reports, I tried my best to do everything since you were at the therapy center today but this specifically needs your insight," She handed Sakura a bunch of documents and continued talking with an apologetic face. "Kakashi-sensei needs them as soon as possible..."
Sakura sighed, she had forgotten about that.
"Sure... Thanks Ino, I'll take it from here" Sakura said with a weak smile.
Ino gave Sakura a small bump on her head. She then looked down at Sakura's desk and picked up the files of patients Sakura was revising a moment ago. "You know, I'm done for today but I can check how this patients are doing and also I can take care of these two" she said while pointing behind her. Haru looked up from the book he was reading, eyes widened, shaking his head.
"That would be great" Sakura said.
Ino grinned and turned to where Ami and Haru were. "Come on you two. We got work to do," she said while leaving the office.
Ami quickly picked up her scrolls and followed Ino right away, Haru didn't move, he was arm crossed, pouting at Sakura. She then nodded her head in the direction where Ino and Ami had left. He rolled his eyes and went after them.
Sakura thought she could finish the reports before her shift ended. That didn't happened. Ino did help enough but the problem was that there were some sections that really needed to be done specifically by Sakura. She looked up at the clock and realized it was getting late, she didn't want to spend her night at the hospital filling reports. She gather her stuff and left her office.
By the time she got home, she could feel how tired she was. She wondered if it was even worth it to finish all that paperwork and maybe, just maybe Kakashi didn't need them at all.
"Shannaro!" She sighed and went to sit on the mat, she placed the reports on the low table that was in the middle of her living room and continued working for the next few hours.
When she was done, she changed into more comfortables clothes and went straight to bed. She managed to finish before midnight.
She was drifting off to sleep when someone knocked at her door.
"No, please go away whoever you are" she grunted as she pulled her blanket closer.
She wondered who it was, because it wasn't the hospital. Whenever there was a crisis, the fastest way to reach her was by summoning one of her slugs.
"Coming!" she shouted while promptly getting off her bed.
She was trying to figure out who could be this late at night. It didn't seem like an emergency because whoever was outside, didn't knock desperately, like the way Ino or Naruto usually did.
She hurried towards the doorway and when she opened the door, she was taken aback by a tall figure in black.
Sasuke was there.
