Today had easily been the worst day in Izuku's life. The only competitor was the day when he found out he was quirkless. Not only did the teacher expose him for wanting to go to UA in front of his entire class, but his former friend, Katsuki Bakugo, made it very clear what his opinion was of Izuku trying to get into the prestigious school. Katsuki also made sure to give Izuku some non-friendly advice before leaving the classroom.
'If you think you'll have a quirk in your next life...go take a swan dive off the roof.'
Those were the words that his former friend had spoken to him. To top it all off, All Might, his favorite hero, had pretty much crushed the dream that he's had since he gained the ability to talk.
Izuku was still on the rooftop of the building where All Might spoke the words he didn't want to hear.
'It's not wrong to dream. However, you need to be realistic, kid.'
Izuku slowly made his way back down to the street. It took every ounce of effort he had not to stay up there and cry his eyes out, but he did it. He would at least give himself points for that. He had to make it back home as soon as possible. His mother was the type to worry and seeing her worried about him would hurt his heart even more than the words of his favorite hero.
He heard an explosion in the near distance and his inner desire to be a hero willed him to make his way over. When he finally made his way to the scene and through the crowd, the sight that greeted sent shivers down his spine.
The sludge villain that All Might caught was free.
The sludge villain that HE had a hand in freeing was causing this destruction.
The sludge villain that nearly suffocated him was having the time of his life doing the same to his tormentor.
Izuku's mind was at work trying to come up with a plan. Given the villain being entirely made up of sludge, a singular heavy attack should instantly secure the win. Unfortunately, All Might was nowhere to be found and he only had himself to blame.
Izuku's eyes scanned the surrounding, trying to find anything to help the situation. His eyes finally landed on the ladder of a building that leads to the roof. He suddenly had an idea. His legs took him to that building and without wasting much time he found the easiest way to get to the roof. After making his way up to the top, he found himself staring down on the current situation.
The damage being caused by the situation was only growing worse, no heroes present were able to diffuse the situation, and it didn't seem like any progress would be made anytime soon. Izuku takes another step closer to the ledge as he remembers all of the discouraging words said to him during his lifetime.
'I'm afraid there's no hope for him.'
'Good grades alone can't get you into the hero program!'
'What can you even do?!'
'He still can't face reality.'
'If you think you'll have a quirk in your next life...go take a swan dive off the roof.'
'It's not wrong to dream. However, you need to be realistic, kid.'
Izuku took one last breath...and jumped.
...
"Shit," Death Arms cursed, "This situation doesn't seem to be getting any better."
"Tell me about it," Kamui Woods replied, "If I get any closer, the explosions and fire could turn me into a pile of ash."
"Does anyone else see that?" A random civilian asks.
The two pro heroes looked up to see a teenage boy plummeting down at the sludge villain. Once second the boy was falling and the next second he splatted into the villain.
When Izuku made contact with the villain, sludge immediately flew everywhere. Sludge splattered against pros, buildings, and the ground. The plan Izuku made worked perfectly...kinda.
Everyone present at the situation was shocked to say the least. Death Arms made sure to keep everyone's head in the game by barking out orders.
"Backdraft, keep using your quirk to keep damage to a minimum! Mt. Lady, keep the civilians with you secure until we are done with the situation! Kamui, use your quirk to help me contain the villain just in case he isn't down for the count!"
...
While heroes went to their assigned roles, All Might was watching from around the corner of a building.
"W-Was that the kid from earlier?" He wondered out loud.
...
Izuku could barely keep his eyes open. Everything hurt and he didn't even know if his plan worked. All he knew was that he was in indescribable pain. As he drifted in and out of consciousness, civilians surrounded his body.
"Outta the way!" Death Arms shouted. He walked over to Izuku's body and did his best to assess the damage. He was no expert in the medical field, but he knew for a fact that people who fall from buildings that high aren't just fine and dandy. "We have a civilian over here in critical condition! He needs medical attention as soon as possible!"
EMT's quickly rushed over to Izuku and lifted his body onto a stretcher. Izuku yelled out in pain in response to the physical contact.
"Sorry, kid," One of the EMT's said, "We need to get you to the hospital right away."
Izuku nodded his head as best as he could in understanding as they evacuated him from the scene.
Katsuki just stared in shocked as Izuku was taken from the scene.
"Wa-Was that Deku?"
...
Inko was pacing back and forth in front of the door, waiting for her son to unlock it and come in. Unfortunately, she didn't watch the news so she didn't know her son wouldn't be coming back home tonight.
She decided it would be better for her to sit and wait for him, rather than pace back and forth until he came back. That was her line of thinking until the house phone rang and interrupted her thoughts.
"Hello?"
"Is this the Midoriya Residence?" The voice on the phone asked.
"Y-Yes it is. Does this call concern my son?" Inko asks, assuming the worst.
"Unfortunately, it does. After a run in with a villain, your son is being held in the Musutafu General Hospital with severe injuries. We sugges-"
Before the caller could finish his sentence, Inko had grabbed her purse, coat, and keys, and left the house with speed that rivaled All Might.
After a seven-minute drive that felt like seven hours, she pulled up to the hospital. She exited her car and quickly made her way through the entrance. She ran up to the front desk, out of breath and full of panic.
"I'm here for Izuku!" She frantically says, "Izuku Midoriya!"
"I'm guessing you're his mother?" The receptionist lazily asks.
"Yes! I'm his mother!"
The receptionist typed a couple of things into her computer before looking up and responding, "Third floor, take a right, and he should be in room 417."
"Thank you!"
Inko hastily made her way over to the elevator and pressed the third floor button a couple of times before the door shut. After the elevator door opened, she hurried to the room given to her by the receptionist. When she reached the room, a doctor was outside waiting for her.
"Ah, I'm guessing you're the mother of Midoriya Izuku?" The doctor asks.
"Yes, I am." She replied, out of breath.
"Perfect timing, then! He just got out of surgery and is resting now, but you can go in there if you want."
The doctor didn't have to tell her twice. She hurriedly made her way in, closing the curtain behind her.
So many thoughts were going through her head as she sat next to her son. She had questions that needed to be answered, but her job as a mother comes first. As long as her precious son woke up, she could go the rest of her life without getting the answers to her questions.
Inko clenched Izuku's hand in her own.
She could only pray that Izuku would wake up soon.

A/N
So, this is my first fanfic. I definitely won't be the best writer, but if I can keep at least one person entertained with this story, then I'll be happy. Warning. This chapter was kinda just a prologue. I just wanted to set the stage for this story with this chapter. I guarantee things will get more exciting in the next chapter. Please consider reading the next chapter if you didn't find this one that good. Until next time!
