Thomas teases Duck about his driver boiling an egg on his whistle. When he sees Toby's crew using his firebox to cook bacon, he thinks it's ridiculous, but his own crew are intrigued and decide to use Thomas to cook their lunch, with hilarious results that put Thomas in his place for all his teasing. Thomas' adventures in China have come to an end, and he's finally heading back home to Sodor, with plenty of stories to tell his beloved Emily, who also has some stories for him as well.

March has just begun on Sodor, and the engines are all beginning to think about Thomas on his adventures in China, and how he'll soon be home shortly. Thinking about Thomas causes all of the engine couples to think about each other, most of them having to cope with the distance between each other.

It's Valentines Day once again, but this year is not a happy time for Emily because Thomas is working in China. For the first time, Thomas and Emily cannot share Valentines Day together. Despite her sadness, Emily tries to ignore it by helping Stanley with his Valentines surprise for Rosie.
