Colonel Lard is doing his best to deprive the Black Sheep of even the most needed parts to repair their aircraft, so chief mechanic Andy Miklin agrees to head over to Espritos Marcos with a box of the Black Sheep's best booze to wheel and deal with the supply sergeant. When Miklin returns with the parts, however, weird things start happening on Vella La Cava.

Jim Gutterman stood in the operations' shack on Vella La Cava and stared at the small black speck on an aerial photograph of nearby Kolombangara island. A speck that he knows were the remains of Doug Rafferty's Corsair and, by extension, of Doug Rafferty himself. It just didn't seem right that the boy would never get a proper funeral.

It's January 3, 1944, and the Black Sheep's luck has run out on a raid over Rabaul. How will Jim Gutterman, the squadron's second in command, cope with the loss of Pappy?

Daily bombing raids spell trouble for the Black Sheep. Add in McHale and the crew of PT 73 and a young Marine named Mike Stone and the adventure begins!
