In which one is saved from loneliness and the other is left with it.

One year later: things have changed. Friendships have been divided. Depression has deepened. But on one average day, the worst thing happened. My killer decided to meet me for a talk. Neku's life turns upside-down when he falls in love with Eri, the most eccentric girl in Shibuya. He's an everydude with a knack for deadpan snarking. And she's the flirty wisecracker who loves using her sex appeal to tease him 24/7. Odd couple? You bet. When former Player Tsukiko Hotaru is given an offer to reenter the Reaper's Game for the sake of Shibuya, she finds out that there may be more at risk than her own position in the city-both for the people she cares for, and the UG surrounding them. After the Reapers Game Life seem to be better for Neku than before. But when Joshua shows up and the reapers are being taken over by a group who use a color swap of the player pins it seems like the game is calling him back. How will he juggle his new school life and still take out this new threat.

Neku Sakuraba might have saved the fate of Shibuya with his friends, but it became worse when Neku and a girl named Yukiko Kitaoka are killed, and is sent to the UG as players for the World Wide Reaper's Game.
