This is my take on the end of season 2 if Shawn had been older and he didn't tell anyone about his parents leaving him. Shawn has to stay with his Uncle Ralph who hates him and puts him to work. Shawn has to fight to survive and to save up enough money to get his own place.

Their friendship began when they separately sought refuge from the rest of their group and allowed preconceived opinions to fade away. In that friendship they've found peace and the ability to be themselves. (AU. Set sometime after season six's Santa's Little Helpers.)

In the season 5 episode It's Not You, It's Me, Cory and Shawn fight over college. When they stop being friends, Cory acts like he and Shawn broke up. A few jokes are made about whether or not Cory enjoys kissing Topanga. This one-shot takes a more serious look at that. A one-shot where Cory realizes that he needs to put Topanga first.

Shawn has accepted his life knowing his internal demons lurked in the shadows of his own negativity. When abandoned by his securities and his parents, he is left to fend for himself or turn to those he knows are always willing to offer help. But he can't leave his faith in the hands of others without the fear of them being hurt again encasing his mind.
