When Michael Burnham's shuttle crash lands on her way to shore leave with a few other crewmen, it is the USS Enterprise that is sent to rescue her. As Spock and two members go to retrieve them from a xenophobic, matriarchal society, they soon find themselves caught in the middle of a tense political situation.

Spock doesn't want to feel this way about the girl he's supposed to see as a sister, but anger and hormones blend into a mix of love and hate, and sexual encounters that leave them confused and torn. Will adulthood bring clarity?

While returning home after an expedition, there is a ship malfunction forcing Sarek and Amanda to evacuate their ship. Although they crash-landed on Vulcan, they find themselves deep in the mountains. Sarek must play doctor to an injured Amanda, and while waiting to be rescued they remember their first meeting. Everything around her seemed to almost dim and mute but his heart, a sudden heat range through her chest and throughout her body, igniting her every nerve with a flurry of tingles that felt electric. Even her sense of gravitate seemed to almost shift...

The Discovery crew doesn't understand why Pike is hesitant to revisit the planet until they're drawn into a world of deception and deceit...
