The hatching of Helioth, a fine, strong blue Dragon of Pern, from his perspective. I've always wanted to write a story of a hatching from the Dragons point of view. I haven't decided yet if I'll take Helioth's story further, but I feel there will be more moments from his life to reveal in the near future. Fourth interval. The first long interval. Thread hasn't fallen for two hundred and fifty years. Tithes are something next to forgotten, dragonriders are regarded as arrogant fools and wherhandlers have on the other hand gained great respect and prestige throughout Pern. Ista Weyr wakes up to a scary realization. Not only is their new Weyrleader a blue rider, but also a lunatic.

F'lar and Lessa didn't help the small malformed Queen Egg on the Hatching Grounds that day, and a furious Ramoth never forgave them for it. Instead, someone else did, a "modern" human unbound by the traditions of Pern. Now, in a time far removed from her own, on a cargo hauler at the edge of the galaxy, amidst the vastness of space, Ramoth reunites with her lost daughter, Vyth.

A century after the end of Thread, the weyrs struggle to find their new purpose. Turmoil stirs in Pern, as holders are no longer content to support the riders and their dragons. Some riders believe they should be ruling Pern, creating dissent among those they should be calling allies. Every Pernese knows one thing, deep down inside: change is inevitable, for better or for worse.
