I.
Ron was falling. Faster and faster through the air, head first. Moments later, he dove into a lake of molten nacho cheese and quickly swam towards the surface. He was about to reach it when – he noticed something was calling his name over and over. But what was worse, something… was touching him!
Ron sat up with a start. "No monkey touch!" he shouted, opening his eyes.
"Ron, time to get up," Mrs. Stoppable said softly. "You've got to get to Kim's in fifteen minutes."
"Sorry Mom," Ron replied, "I kept hitting snooze and falling back asleep."
As he stepped into his morning shower, he couldn't help but think about the last few days, and how odd they had been. First the millionaire incident, and then catching Señor Senior Senior at the X-Games. Ron began to think ahead. Crap, Barkin's homework. As usual, his homework sat on his desk in his room – uncompleted. He remembered Bonnie laughing at him. I bet she wouldn't be laughing if she got extra homework! he mused, but then again, girls… sideways eight thingies, don't understand them!
Ron stepped out of the shower, got dressed, woke Rufus, and headed out the door. As he walked the short distance from his house to Kim's, he began to think. There's a dance coming up soon isn't there. Kim's still dating Monkey, so I've got to find someone else. If I can, that is. This annoyed Ron. He had been used to going to all the dances with Kim, and now he'd have to find his own date. He was no longer dating Zita, and Yori… well, he didn't even think Yori liked him, and she was in Japan. Maybe I won't even go.
II.
Bonnie woke up slowly and got out of bed. Grumbling, she walked downstairs.
"And a big good morning my little BonBon!" Mrs. Rockwaller's shrill voice called. "I've left your breakfast on the stove!"
Bonnie entered the kitchen, and grabbed her meal. "Thanks Mom," she called back and sat down. As she ate the scrambled eggs and bacon on her plate, she remembered her talk with Tara. Then, she made a decision. She would apologize to Stoppa…err…Ron. At least for the gold-digging, she thought, that wasn't fair. But there was still the problem of getting him away from Little Miss Perfect, and who knew how hard that might be. She figured her best shot was after cheer practice, while Kim was still changing.
Finishing her breakfast, Bonnie headed upstairs to get ready. She took a quick glance at her calendar and noticed a dance coming up. I better ask Brick soon, she thought worried. I don't want anyone else to grab him first. The Queen of the Food Chain deserved to go with the quarterback, right? As she showered, she began thinking about who was going with who. Tara was going with Jason Morgan, Jessica with Steve Foley… Kim with Josh Mankey…
Bonnie stopped. Kim usually went with Ron, didn't she? So if Kim was going with Josh, who is Ron going with? Again… why do I care?
III.
Kim turned to Ron as they walked towards Middleton High, and noticed he seemed pre-occupied. She could usually tell when something wasn't right, today being one of those days. Something was bothering him.
"Ron?" She asked gently.
"Yeah KP?" Ron answered.
"Spill."
"Uhh… spill what? Nothing's going on with me. Not a thing. Not-a. Heh heh…" Ron said rubbing the back of his neck.
Kim stopped walking and turned to him. "Ron, you've been awfully quiet and you're staring out into space. I know something's bothering you. Please, just tell me?"
Ron looked up at Kim, before sighing. "Well, I've just been thinking about the dance coming up. You are going with Josh, aren't you?" he asked.
"Yes," Kim replied, "he asked me a few days ago. I meant to tell you. It must have slipped my mind. I'm sorry Ron."
"It's okay Kim. I already knew that. You've been dating him for a while. I mean, you even disobeyed Wade to go out with him once," Ron laughed slightly.
Kim chuckled softly, before agreeing.
Ron continued. "I've just been thinking about who I'm going to ask. If I decide to go at all that is."
"I'm sure you'll find someone Ron," Kim responded. "You did a few years ago when I went with Walter Nelson."
"I guess," Ron grumbled.
As they began walking again, Kim began to think. At least he seems to be over Bonnie. I can't see him liking her anyways.
IV.
Bonnie arrived at Middleton High and saw Kim and Ron walking together. They both looked somewhat occupied, as if they were deep in thought. Suddenly she again felt a slight sense of being alone again, before quickly turning and heading to her first class.
Entering the classroom, she was relieved to see that the regular teacher was present. Phew, no Barkin, she thought. Bonnie took her seat next to Tara, and waved hello.
Tara leaned towards her and whispered. "Hi Bonnie, did you come to any conclusion regarding our talk?"
"Well, I'm going to apologize later," Bonnie whispered back. "I don't know exactly how much yet, we'll see what happens. I do kind of feel bad about what I've done."
"Good idea. Let me know how it goes, okay?"
"Okay. Thanks Tara."
Tara smiled. "Anytime."
V.
Bonnie walked out of the ladies' room and found Ron, sitting on a bench. She sat down and looked at him. He hadn't moved. She wasn't used to apologizing, but she knew she had to do this. It was only right. She took a deep breath and began.
"Stoppable."
Ron had noticed Bonnie sit down, but decided not to do anything. When she spoke up, he knew he had to respond.
"What is it BonBon?" Ron immediately regretted calling her that.
Bonnie fumed. "DON'T call me that EVER again," she said forcefully.
"I'm sorry Bonnie. What did you want?" Ron replied quickly.
Bonnie saw the look of regret on his face. She took another deep breath, decided to let it go, and continued.
"Look, Stoppable… Ron… I just wanted to… say sorry," she stumbled out, "for how I've treated you with your money… and all the insults."
Ron couldn't believe his ears. Bonnie was apologizing? That is SOOO not like her! he thought. But, Ron was a good man. He had forgiven many people for various things, and decided this was no special case. She seemed sincere.
"I forgive you Bonnie. But why are you apologizing? Don't you hate me?" Ron asked carefully.
"I don't know," she responded, and paused. "But I feel bad about how I've treated you. I guess the whole gold-digging incident made me realize it. I don't hate you, you know."
Bonnie could see Ron was having difficulty processing this. He was silent for what seemed like an eternity.
"I understand. And I forgive you Bonnie," Ron finally replied. He smiled and offered her a truce handshake. She took it carefully, before asking "Why are you so forgiving? I've been cruel to you for so long."
"Hey, I am what I is!" Ron quipped. This caused Bonnie to chuckle for a second, before getting up and leaving.
VI.
Kim left the ladies' room, just as Bonnie had about ten minutes earlier. She saw Ron, and sat down.
"Hi Ron!" she said cheerfully. "Ready to head to Bueno Nacho?"
Ron looked over and replied, "Oh, hey KP. Uhh, sure, but first can I tell you something?"
"Of course Ron. What is it?"
"Well, while you were in there… ya know, changing, Bonnie talked to me." Ron said slowly. He was slightly worried she would freak out.
Kim looked shocked. "Bonnie talked to you? Whatever she said Ron, it's not true. You are a great guy and not a loser!"
Ron started waving his hands quickly. "No, no, no, amp down Kim," he said quickly, "she actually, uhh, apologized. For the gold-digging… and the insults."
Kim stared at him. Bonnie apologizing to Ron? What? She couldn't believe what she was hearing. This has to be part of some plan! It's Bonnie, she's like that, isn't she?
"Ron, Bonnie is obviously trying to play some game with you. She acts like she hates you."
Ron looked at his best friend, considering this for a moment. Then, he came to a decision.
"Look KP," he said, "the way she said it, the way she looked when she said it. It seemed sincere, and I believe her. Maybe this is a turning point for her. Maybe she'll apologize to you, and some of the others she's offended. Even though Bonnie has been a thorn in our sides for a while, she is human. And humans sometimes change."
Kim considered this for a moment. She didn't trust Bonnie but she trusted Ron. "Okay Ron, I trust your judgement. I for one, hope she has changed."
"Thanks KP. Me too."
"No big. Now, let's head to Bueno Nacho!"
Please let me know what you think!
