Bellamy

That day in his old home, when the young boy walked in on them during room inspection. He thought his life was over. When his mother came back to get him, he was running to her and crying. "I'm sorry mom, I'm sorry Octavia and I were playing, and I heard noise, but I didn't think anything of it and…. He….. he saw her". Bellamy's mother rubbed his back, shushing his cries. "It's ok Bellamy. I don't know how but we got away with it this time. But next time we might not be so lucky. You know what that means". She looked over at Octavia. "Back in the floor"? "Back in the floor".

She repeated to her daughter. Bellamy hated having to watch his sister hide. Sometimes he wished it had been the other way around. That Octavia was the eldest and he was the hidden child. Hiding under the floor and in the darkness. But he knew that there was no changing things. And it wouldn't help to dwell on it.

The next couple weeks he helped his mother in the shop. Changing the threads on the machine as she worked. He was fast and good at it, his mother even managed to make it a game for him. Some of the other members of the ark, on the guard, snickered when they walked past. Talking about his mother like she was trash. It made Bellamy angry, his feelings much stronger now that he was an adolescent. He didn't like to see her being treated or talked to that way. But his mother just brushed it off in a passive manner. Refocusing his attention and using a stern voice to draw him back. "Bellamy" she said out loud. His attention to her. Changing out another thread.

There was a quick knock and the door, the sewing machine coming to a stop. The young boy he had seen days ago coming into his mother's shop with a pair of ripped pants. He shut the once open door behind him. Making it more private. Clearly this was more than just about a repair. His mother got up, starting to shake a little and Bellamy couldn't help but back up. With what he knew and who his father was, it intimidated him. His back hit the sewing machine and his mother's hands came resting on his shoulders. "I need a repair". Handing the pants to Bellamy's mother. "And I am guessing you want it for free". Bellamy thought his mother shouldn't push her luck, suggesting that he was requesting payment for keeping their secret, why wouldn't he? Everyone else always did.

The boy looked at him, moving closer and staring in his eyes. He smiled a little bit, unexpected because they were from two different classes. Rarely anyone took the time to be kind to a poor kid from a low district. "I don't expect it to be free". He held out his hand with more money than it would cost. "We don't take charity". Bellamy frowned, dropping his head. He knew it was what his mother expected him to say. "I am not offering charity. I am offering it because I know you could use it. It's a friendly gesture". Bellamy looked back at his mom, not sure what to do. "Well, I didn't expect it but thank you. About…. About the other day". She said getting to what was on her mind. "You don't need to explain. I understand. As much as I can. Your secret is safe with me, and I'll do my best to try and steer my dad away from you guys". They weren't sure what to do. This young boy was offering to keep their secret, protect them for nothing. They hadn't received this kind of kindness before.

"What would make it easier is if I had some friends to play with, a reason to run out and check on your guys. It would be more convenient". "Don't you have friends to play with on your own station". The boy dropped his head, almost embarrassed. "My parents, my dad…. He doesn't really allow me to stray too far". Bellamy's mom cleared her throat, willing to take the chance for him like he was for her. "Well I don't know how often but I am sure Bellamy would like the company". Bellamy looked up at her shocked that she accepted. Of course, he would like the company but what about… "Octavia too". He asked. His mother looked down at him. "Octavia too". She said.

Bellamy excited about the change looked to the boy standing in front of him. Holding out his hand he did the best to introduce himself. "I'm Bellamy, Bellamy Blake". The boy took it shaking it firmly, "Lake, Lake Kane".

Now that the ceremony was finished a bunch of his friends were going out to celebrate. One of their friends had snagged a bottle from the med supply and had brought it out to share. They were tucked away in one of the area's in the arc that usually held supplies, and recycling. It was dark there, mostly used by select workers during the day. The boy's passed around the bottle that afternoon, taking quick sips. "So, what do we do now that we're free"? Murphy asked. Bellamy laughed.

"Free isn't exactly the word I would use to sum up our time. We just graduated and already know they are making a schedule to put all of us on guard duty next week". Lake laughed taking the bottle from Bellamy. "Oh, come on Blake when did that ever stop us from bending the rules, having a little fun on duty. Plus, we get our new rooms now. I was kind of thinking that we could bunk up together"? "I don't know Lake, my mom she… needs me at home. As much as I'm excited about the offer I don't know if I can just leave her like that". "Then we request a room closer to hers, on a lower station. Hell, what do I care"? Bellamy smiled up at his friend.

The lower station wasn't always the safest, or cleanest, or really anything anyone would want. But knowing his secret he was doing it for him. "I'll think about it ok"? Murphy pulled the bottle from Lake's hands. "And where does that leave me you two, I don't have a family remember. Where am I supposed to bunk up"? Bellamy nudged him in the arm, almost pushing him over from where he was sitting on the window before he could catch himself. "How about you shack up with the chick on 4. She seems to really be interested"? Murphy smirked at that. Knowing he had been eyeing her at the ceremony. She didn't need to come out there for him, especially because what they had was an on again off again thing. Nothing serious. "Oh please, you know I don't want to be tied down just yet". "According to her that's exactly what you want to be". Lake laughed, holding his stomach as it belted out of control.

The panel door flashed next to them ready to open, Lake stashed the bottle in the corner of one of the bins in the hall. They all stood up, placing their hands behind their backs and intertwining their fingers like they were in serious conversation about something. When they realized it was no one important they calmed their nerves. Sitting back down on the window. The medical intern, bringing a bag of used syringes to the drop off. As his friends continued in conversation, he glanced to the side. The small blonde, opening the bin, and tossing the bag in. She looked up to meet his eyes before he had a chance to look away. Walking toward them she leaned it. Getting all their attention at once. "You know if I were to sneak around drinking, I would at least find a better place to hide the bottle". She looked over in the corner pointing to where it was hidden, in plain sight. Bellamy smirked at her as she made her way out. "Wow that was brave, you don't see many girls approach guards like that". Murphy commented as the door closed. "Yeah, I wonder if she's going to say anything to the med staff. What do you think Blake"? Bellamy was just staring at the closed door, his mind a frozen image of a small blonde, leaning to talk to them. Blue, green eyes and her wavy curls descending around her face over her shoulders. "Earth to Blake, are you even listening"? Bellamy snapped out of it, looking over at Lake. "What"?

Lake hopped off the window retrieving the bottle and handing it over to him. "Looks like you might need this. That is the first time I have ever seen you speechless from a girl". Bellamy swiped the bottle from his hands. "I was not speechless". "What ever you say Blake". Murphy added. Continuing their conversation as Bellamy took another sip. He continued to stare at the window, out into space. The same small blonde girl filling his mind.

Separating this into sections at some parts and then some parts will involve everyone. I've worked on quite a bit of it so I hope you enjoy. BE KIND
