"I want to be a warrior!" I said to papa with a wide smile. He smiled back, while he brushed my hair aside with his hand.
"That you do, huh?" He answered. "You''re a bit too young to make the decision, but hey..." he pauses, before walking towards the chest next to the bed, and brought out a pair of wooden swords.
"Up for some training, lad?" He handed me a sword, hilt first.
I said yes with a giddy look on my face.
I swung my sword-arm, and blood flashed at an instant. My opponent - a bandit on the road - backpedaled, holding his arms above his stomach, desperately holding his guts from falling to where it was not supposed to be.
Another swing, and it was over.
Divines above! Guarding duty is far from the glamorous future that I wanted... however, it's safer than being a mercenary. Being impaled by a sword is one thing, but walking around with an arrow in your knee, feeling the creaking of my joint squeezing the steel arrowhead...
It'll be a while before I can face an archer again, that's for sure.
Hey, is that the Dragonborn? She's looking a bit down, right now. That face... battle fatigue, huh? Heh, well, Bretons aren't known for their warrior spirit. Let's cheer her up, yeah?
"Dragonborn! Looks like you need one of this!" I said to her as she neared. She looked surprise, before looking down at the tankard of mead I'm holding.
"It's honey mead. I'm sure you Bretons can handle this, at least." I grinned back. A fellow warrior always deserve some drink in their tankard, after all.
She smiled.
"Thanks."
A gulp was all it took to finish it.
The memories came to me in a whirlwind of emotions. Before I can do fully process it, however, I sensed something. Something powerful. I can feel it's gaze upon me, like being blasted by the Chronon particles of the time machine, but... sentient, somehow.
Is this another shifter? Another timeless entity? It felt... ancient, as if I am within it's domain.
Needless to say, I was scared shitless.
Diving into my alternate self, the last thing I sensed before losing consciousness was a single name.
