I stare at my baby boy and think of how blessed I am to have Rick. He is so precious. I decided to call my mom to let her know that she has a new grandson named Richard. Link thought it was a good way to reconnect with my mom, I didn't want to tell her but she has the right to know. It may have been only a couple of hours since he was born but I am grateful that he is here and healthy and he lived passed the 43 minutes that his brother lived. Link and I were happy to hold him at every moment that we were able to although half the hospital wanted to see him. Miranda held him and started to cry because she really wanted a baby but unfortunately she lost her baby.
"He's beautiful Shepherd, what's his name?" asked Miranda. "Richard Alexander, or Scout or Rick for short." Link said. "That's beautiful Shepherd and Lincoln, I'm sure he will be loved as much as Webber." Miranda said. "Aunty Amelia you had the baby." Zola said excitedly as Meredith brought in the kids to see their new cousin. "Baby he look little." Ellis said. "Yes he is Ellie he's your new cousin." Link said. "What is a cousin?" asked Bailey. "Oh that's right you have never seen any of your cousins and this is the first one you have met but a cousin is a baby that aunties have or uncles." I told my nephew. "Oh like Leo is our cousin as is Allison?" asked Zola. "Yes like that but this cousin is going to be living with you." I said. "Scout is living with us?" asked Bailey
Oh how innocent Bailey is but that is also how 6 year old think. Oh how Derek would have loved to see his son grow. Little Ellis is only 4 and she doesn't even know her father. Owen, Alex, DeLuca, and Link are like a father figure to little Ellis. But I know deep down Derek would love her. But in many ways she reminds me of myself and I want to protect her but yet again she is Meredith's daughter. After visiting hours were up we were finally able to spend time time little Richard. Within the first few minutes of us alone he started crying. I didn't know what to do. I was fine with Ellis when she was born but this is different this is my son. We started to panic as we didn't know what to do or how to handle him when he started to cry. How are we going to raise him? What if we are complete failures as parents? I'm good at being the aunt this is a new adventure for me. This is also a new adventure for Link as well. We were overwhelmed but we were going to make this work.
"What do we do how do get him to stop crying?" asked Link. "I don't know Atticus Please help." I said in tears. "Amelia it's going to be okay maybe he's hungry he hasn't been fed yet." Link said. "I don't think he is hungry what is wrong with him?" I asked. "I think he's hungry remember this was when you used to eat a snack before bed." Link said. "Okay I'll try to see if that helps but I don't think so." I said.
I fed him and he fell right asleep afterwards. We didn't know how to handle his first feeding and what he wanted. I don't know if we are able to do this well at least Maggie and Meredith are at the house to help out when we finally go home. Honestly it's a good thing they are there but we are going to be okay. I didn't want to sleep because I didn't want to miss a moment of Richard because I never got this with Christopher. I hope we get lots of different things with him that I wasn't able to get with Christopher. I love Richard and his Daddy. I know we are going to be a fine family once we get through all of this struggles as new parents and what we are going to do. All we care is that our son is getting all the needs that he needs right now. When morning came Zola, Bailey, and Ellis came back with Maggie. They wanted to spend more time with Richard and how adorable they were with him.
"I can't wait till you can come home." Zola said. "I want to play cars with you." Bailey said. "Well Bailey he is too little right now to play cars with you maybe wait a little while when you are like 8 or 9 when he's older." Link said. "Can he be show in tell at Peeschool." Ellis asked. "Oh Ellis of course but in a couple of days when we can go home." I said. "Aunty Amelia why do you have to stay so long?" Asked Zola. "Well I also what to see how Uncle Richard is doing." I said. "That's going to be confusing Aunty Amelia." Zola said. "Is it as confusing with Miranda Bailey and your brother Bailey?" I asked. "Fair enough but can we call him Scout?" asked Zola. "Yes you can actually that is what Uncle Link wants to call him." I said.
It was nice to spend time with Zola, Bailey, and Ellis while they got to know their cousin. Ellis is so cute though I honestly thought she would freak out about not being the baby. Although she thinks Leo and Allison are fun to play with. Watching those two for Owen and Teddy is fine actually watching Ellis, Leo, and Allison gave Link and I strength that we know that Richard is going to be in good hands. We love him very much and he's not even 12 hours old yet. He is our pride and joy and he is ours our little Scout or what ever we want to call our little Richard. We can't wait to share the joy with Richard Webber once Tom figures out a way to operate on his brain where that Tumor is that I'm surprised I didn't catch but maybe I was so focused on what I was told was braxton hicks contractions to what Carina said was actual Labor. Little Richard really wanted to make his appearance into the world and we love that little boy for that. He gave us hope when we thought hope was gone.
