Author's Note: Woo! Prologue down! This chapter may be long, so buckle up!

My name is Jack Cooper. I am a Pilot in training. Pilot Lastimosa, my mentor, is a very skilled Pilot. I don't know why he chose me to be taught, but he did.

He's very nice and strict when needed.

Today we are going over the Pilot training.

It's a simulation in a pod that allows Pilots and Non-Pilots to train. I've never done it before, but today is the day I try it.

"Alrighty, Cooper." Said Lastimosa in a calm manner, "boot up the training pod."

"Got it," I said with a thumbs-up.

I looked up, pressed three buttons, and pulled a lever.

The doors of the pod shut, engulfing me in darkness. Then, green lights appeared and went up and down and then the walls around me became a beautiful place.

Almost indescribable, but wouldn't the word "indescribable" describe it?

There were rigid grey bricks everywhere except for a few blossoming trees and a small stream that had a tiny bridge that looked like polished wood.

I took a moment to scan my surroundings until Lastimosa interrupted my thoughts.

"All right, try and move around."

I did, and it felt normal. What the?

"Latest technology allows you to do that," he said, reading my thoughts.

"Huh. Seems odd that it's so open in the simulation, but in reality, I'm in a cramped space," I said, still completely bewildered.

"Start sprinting down that tunnel. I'll meet you there"

I was so focused on the beauty around me, I didn't notice a tunnel right in front of me. I made my way there and started sprinting.

It was a short tunnel, so it didn't take long. I wasn't out of breath by a long shot. I wouldn't be because it was a simulation.

"You might get tired because of adrenaline, but other than that, nothing to say about energy in a simulation like this. Anyways, Pilots are able to jump twice. Once on ground, once midair. These are called double jumps. Creative name, right?"

I rolled my eyes, but when I was done, Lastimosa wasn't there.

"Where'd you go?" I asked, looking around.

"Up here, Cooper!" A voice said from above, "Double jump to get up here!"

I found Lastimosa on a floating platform above.

"Here…we…go!" I said breaking out in a full-sprint. I jumped and jumped again. How? I don't know. I went with it though. When I hit the ground, I safety-rolled. Safety-rolling is rolling so you don't break any bones after a fall or jump.

"Huh. That's interesting…" I said with a puzzled face.

"Trying to explain that in your mind?" Lastimosa asked.

"Geez… he's good…" I said under my breath.

The man, the legacy, Lastimosa had read my mind again.

"Hard to explain. Our jump kits can boost us by jumping midair. Very useful for stringing it together for the next technique I will teach you. Wall running. Wall running can allow you to go faster and when ended with a double jump and slide after that, there is a slight speed boost. You may not realize it, but it's there."

"That's pretty cool." I said with a nod, taking mental notes.

"Wall run to make it across the gap. Like this." My excellent mentor said. He then did it himself.

I hesitated, but went for it. I didn't make it, and I braced for impact.

Then I felt solid ground beneath me, and I looked down. I was right before the jump.

I blinked twice, trying to make sense of all this.

"It's only-"

"A simulation, right, right…"

I tried again, this time running on the wall with my hand skimming it. There was a platform further away, and I knew I had to double jump in order to get there. There was also a low tunnel and realized what Lastimosa had said before was what I had to do here.

So I jumped, and jumped again, then I slid with elegance.

"Very good, Cooper!" Lastimosa said with pride, "you used the 'wall run, double jump, and slide technique'!"

I stood up and smirked. He was right. I felt like I was going at super speed. It also felt straight up cool!

"Alright, next," Lastimosa said, being serious again, "time to hit the firing range."

"Oooh. That sounds fun."

"Mneh," he said with a shrug, "it's cool. Just there's a secret weapon that I've never gotten. Let's see if you can get it."

He pointed up and I saw the outline of a weapon. And it looked pretty hard to get.

I whistled with wide eyes. "I'm getting it," I whispered to myself, "definitely"

I noticed large planks with guns on them. I took one called the "Spitfire". Quite an accurate Light Machine Gun. I climbed up a pole and Lastimosa watched intently. The room I was in had a circular shape. There was an open roof except for a curved wall in which the gun was mounted on. I ran against the wall very briefly and leaped up to the gun I had just enough time to get it. I reached, grabbed it, and landed back where my mentor was.

"I'm speechless… well, I guess I can say words without mumblthing (mumbling)"

"Well, what is it and what does it do?" I asked curiously.

"Well, it's an EPG. It can shoot energized blasts powerful enough to obliterate someone in one shot. On impact, it will explode like an arc grenade. They can even hurt titans with one blast. Unlike others, which can only hurt titans by hitting the cockpit, aside from Anti-titan weapons. If you're wondering, Anti-titan weapons can damage any titan at any spot."

"Noted," I said, taking mental notes. "Are Anti-titan weapons rare on the battlefield?"

"Yes. Very, in fact."

"Time for The Gauntlet. It's kind of a race against other pilots, but they're not there," Lastimosa said, "follow me."

And with that, we left the room.

Lastimosa led me into a room and said, "Go on, enter that arch and do your best to go as fast as you can to complete this. You must do better than that to move on."

"You got it," I said with a lot of confidence, "let's do this!"

But before I went, I grabbed some fragmentation grenades and got ready to go as I got behind the starting point. I broke out into a full sprint, crossing the starting line.

I took a moment to scan my surroundings. There was a wall begging me to run on it.

So I did. And I was off to a great start.

There were grunts standing there. Grunts are normal soldiers and usually have horrible accuracy. I am a grunt myself, but I'm better than normal. I shot them down with the EPG to experience its power. It directly hit one and exploded which made the others disappear into nothingness.

I then slid into a crack and shot another grunt. I jumped up on the walls and threw a grenade at a group of three grunts and moved on.

I kept running on the walls, shooting two grunts. There were the last two grunts and I shot them down, crossing the finish line. I got 56.734 seconds.

"Great job Cooper! You just beat Commander Sarah Briggs!"

"But I don't think it's going to stay that way, though she's very competitive," Lastimosa said in one breath.

Then he started tapping his wrist in multiple places. Then the room around us became a circular platform. Then there was his partner, Bravo Tango 7274, or BT for short.

"Go ahead and call down your first titan. Say, 'Titanfall!'"

"Titanfall!" I yelled. An object was coming down from the sky.

But just as it was about to hit the ground, the simulation froze and turned off, putting me in darkness.
