FORKS

Bella's POV

I was born in Forks seventeen years ago; my father Charlie had always been quiet and serious while Renee bubbling and flaky. When their ill-fated romance ended, I was taken from the only home I've ever known and started travelling with my mother.

I cannot say for sure when I realised that I was different, I wasn't more or less than others, I just felt always not attuned to the people and places I was living. I was clumsy while the others were athletic, I was pale while the others had darker complexion. I always enjoyed cooking, reading and watching movies while the other girls enjoyed shopping, parting and going out.

I discovered pretty early in my life that I had to take care of my mother and me, otherwise we would find ourselves on the street. I've always felt like a mother rather than a daughter. And with my mother never settling in any place I never got attached to anything and anyone. I was rootless, a vagabond.

I never really missed anything or anybody and soon this hardened my heart. I wasn't able to get friends, I always had acquaintances and when we left a place, I left them behind without a second thought.

I wasn't a bad person, I just built walls around my heart because I didn't want to be hurt. I always dreamed of love, but I never really knew what love meant. When my mother met Phil and for the first time she seemed happy to settle I started to feel restless.

So, with a heavy heart I decided to leave my mother behind with the excuse of letting her free to pursue a relationship with Phil and decided to move back to Forks.

I didn't know what to expect by going back to the only place that I remembered being happy, but certainly I didn't expect to meet people that actually cared for me. Unfortunately, I wasn't ready to let them in. I started taking care of my father like I always took care of my mother and my heart hardened a bit more, because once again I wasn't a daughter but a mother to Charlie.

The first day of school I didn't expect to be a celebrity, I was the new girl and everyone was beyond themselves to try and be friendly with me. It made me feel uneasy because I always preferred being unnoticed. Jessica and Angela were nice but Mike and Tyler made me feel shyer than usual. I wasn't used to be liked by boys and I wasn't interested as well. I was too polite to be able to tell them to get lost and it was because of this that I found myself sitting with these people for lunch.

When the door of the cafeteria opened again, I didn't raise my eyes from my food until I felt a scent that caught me off guard. It was the scent of something sweet and spicy that shot through my body in an unexpected way, awakening my hormones for the first time. I raised my eyes and I was met with the sight of three unnatural beautiful people, two boys and a girl.

"Who are they?" I whispered.

Jessica smirked. "Edward Cullen, Rosalie and Jasper Hale. Don't bother with them Bella, they don't really interact with us. They never even talk to us, I don't know if they think they are so much better of us..."

Bella looked at them while they took the table in the far end. "Perhaps they are just people who don't like crowds and prefer being in quiet places." While she said that she met the eyes of one of the boys, he was scrunching up his face like he was concentring hard on something. Then my eyes moved to the other boy, and my heart stuttered. He was the handsomest man I have ever seen, because he definitely wasn't a boy.

They seemed to discuss seriously about something and then the girl picked up the phone and whispered something. The three of them turned their head towards me and I blushed and looked down again.

Jasper's POV

I was shocked when I met the eyes of the new girl, she had the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen and I couldn't read her emotions.

Edward couldn't read her mind and Rosalie after calling Alice confirmed that we had found our shield.

When we planned to find the gifted human, I would never expect to be attracted to her, but what was surprising was that I was picking up the same feelings from Edward. He had a look of awe on his face, she was the first woman that was a mystery for him and that intrigued him very much.

Edward turned his eyes on me and smirked. "It seems that we will have a challenge here, my dear brother. Let's see who can get her first."

I smirked back. "The winner gets to keep her."

Edward took my hand on shook on it. "Agreed. It will be very rewarding to have her at my side."

Rosalie scowled and my smirk widened. "Don't be so sure to be the winner, brother."
