He stumbled out the apartment, away from where the body of his mother lay with a kitchen knife embedded in her chest. He scrambled down the dirty stairs trying to escape his step-dad, the man who'd killed his mum. He felt a sharp pain in his back as a beer bottle collided with his spine, shattering and peppering his skin with broken glass. He tripped on a pile of rubbish as his step-dad lumbered closer with the very same knife that used to be in his mother's heart in hand.
"Listen you little shit, you and me are going to have a heart to heart before I take yours out." The step-dad whispered in his ear as he picked the small boy up by his neck.
Suddenly there was a bright flash behind the man shaped lump of vile flesh. "Oh what do we have here, a witness perhaps," The man said "Well not for very long."
In the place of the fading light there was a woman with stormy grey eyes and curly blonde hair. She was wearing a pair of jeans with a green T-shirt with an embroided owl above her heart.
She glared a the fat man and said "step away from the child you heap of lard and I might make your death quick.
The man just threw him to the floor and declared "Oh you think you can threaten me bitch, well i think I know a better use for that mouth of yours, so how about you get on your knees.
At that the woman seemed to loose it and a second later all that was left of the man was a pile of smoking ash. She started to approach me as I shuffled backwards.
"Pwease don't h-hurt me like that m-man did" he managed to stutter out.
"Don't worry young one, I'm here to help you" she said softly as she bent down before picking me up gently as the water-works started.
If she cared about the growing wet patch on her top she didn't show it as she rubbed my back.
Once I'd calmed down I whispered "who are you?"
"My name is Athena" she whispered back " and I'd like to adopt you if that's okay?"
"What's that" I wondered out loud.
"It means I become your new mummy" Athena answered
"Yes mummy I'd love that." I say as I hug back tightly. As I did this she whispered in a weird language and suddenly I glowed grey and I instantly felt smarter. "What was that mummy"
"That was me adopting you darling, usually that wouldn't happen but I'm a Greek goddess so you get special powers or in my case you just get smarter"
"My old mummy always used to read to me about the Greek gods" I said sadly remembering about my mums dead body lying in the apartment.
"How about we get you out of here my little champion?" she asked me.
"Where to" I responded
"Home"
