Silver ran to the elevator before she could think. Jade ran behind her yelling "DIBS!" Ko trailing behind them. Silver vanished behind the doors while Jade was banging hard on them. This could be it! A way to find Draco. Silver twirled the pendant that was given to her grandparents. It was on her sixth birthday when it happened. Silver always had a problem making friends and her family thought it would help her get by. "You see dear," her grandmother would say. "This star represents the one who will guide you toward your dreams and what you need in life. When it glows, it means that your soulmate is revealed."
"Soulmate?" A six-year-old Silver asked.
"A really good friend or lover that compliments you."
Since then, Silver went around school trying to find her friends through her necklace. She tried to keep an open mind, but she would end up abandoned or used in the end. When her grandparents passed away and her parents were killed by a mysterious villain, things got worse. She found herself having a non-stop cycle of abandonment and abuse from the foster system. Until she had to go to a boarding school during her middle school years. She thought there was no one out there that would truly love her. One day, as far as she could recall, she found someone with green scales being bullied by a large man with a super strength quirk. Silver stepped in and saved him. He suffered pneumonia, but she didn't care. She stayed with him until his mother returned home. Even though he wasn't fully awake, he would try to talk to her about his feelings and likes and dislikes. Silver would sometimes share her book of fairytales and enjoyed his laugh. That was her Draco. She couldn't remember his name after a really bad fall, but decided that meeting Draco and finding her long lost cousin Kitty would finally bring her the peace she needed for so long.
Her thoughts were brought back to reality when the elevator went "ding". She stepped out to see every employee making a mad dash for the conference room that was near the end of the hall. The room was large despite how average the building was. She walked in and took a seat. She ignored the silence among the few employees. It always happens to her whenever she walks into the room. Silver was used to it. Before long, Jade walked in and everyone greeted her like she was the star of the show. Unfortunately, she is the star reporter for the Mole Gazette.
Walking onto the stage was a portly man with a heavily stained work shirt and a bushy beard that would have mistaken him for Santa Clause if it were a bit whiter. However, he was anything but cheery. He slammed his fist down on the podium causing the microphone to give off a high pitched noise. Everyone covered their ears. "Nice one Mr. Koshinuke", Ko grumbled with his St. Bernard ears flat to his head.
Nozumi Koshinuke was a man in his mid-40's. He only puts money in his beloved building while he barely leaves a few bucks for his reporters. Many people would be happy to leave, but if they did he would make their lives a living nightmare since he has a few journalists buddies in other papers. He would keep others like Silver around just to look good to the public. In reality, Silver was viewed as an unimportant quirkless nobody to him and would rather see her leave. Silver's feeling on that was mutual. She also hated how he would smell of cheap cologne.
"Alright, listen up." He said in a rough voice that made him sound as if he ate a lot of nails. "In a few weeks, we will have to make an article that involves the heroes battling the Paranormal Liberation Front. The thing is we need something that would set us apart from the rest of the papers going over this." He cleared his throat. "I've decided that we should get a few interviews by some of the founding members of the PLF that are held in Tartarus." He began eating breath mints as a huge uproar rose in the crowd.
"Tartarus!?"
"Isn't that place highly secured?"
"That's crazy! I'm not going to risk my neck for an interview."
"Shut up!" Koshinuke roared. "One of you has to write an article before those weeks are up. If one of you is brave enough to step up, good luck and I will give you 3 million yen!" He looked over the silent crowd which was deeply conflicted. "If you don't then you're all fired!" He kept glaring as he listened to more of the murmurs.
Silver felt her heart burn. She wasn't close to these people, but she knew they didn't deserve to suffer like this. She looked at her hands and arms. They were riddled with scars. Each one was inflicted by her. Her mind was filled with dead bodies and pools of blood. Something happened and she couldn't prevent it. She couldn't be there for Adelweiss when he was sick in bed. His smile was weak and encouraging. If there's a chance to help now would be the time. She thought, tightening her fists. Besides, I have to find Draco even if it means helping these people. She heard a chair screech and quickly got up shouting, "I'll do it!"
Everyone around her stood silent. She turned to see Jade turn bright red, her eyes greener than normal. If Jade could, she would've unleashed her quirk by now. "The queen of boring is stepping up?" One attendant whispered.
"Wow...She got guts." Ko breathed.
Kushinuke just stared for a moment. "Any other volunteers?" He sees Jade wave her hand frantically. "Aside from Jade Mewnani?" He had no answer. "All right then." His gaze fixed at Silver. "Silver, once you get your pictures done, you'll be given enough money to help you with your travels. Find out what you can."
Silver simply bowed. "Thank you, sir."
Before long, the meeting ended and Silver went back to her office with Jade angrily walking behind her. Silver stuck out her tongue. "Save your breath, you've been hogging those articles long enough. Maybe you can go to a bar and find a real man for once. Unlike you, I want to help out anyway I can." Even if it means losing my life or finding Draco and Kitty. She thought as she vanished through the elevator.

Kushinuke sat in the darkness of his office. He had a call to go through before he went home. His home phone was bugged so he had to talk to his client via office phone. It rang, beeping non stop until he picked it up. "About time. My butt has gone numb from being in this chair." He listened closely to the raspy voice on the line. "Don't worry, I found a real sucker for the job."
