Meredith came home after work exhausted. She locked her bedroom door and crashed down on her bed. She looked over to the stacked boxes, and her empty closets and sighed as she placed her hands on her stomach. She gently circled her index finger over the small bump that was beginning to form. She assumed she was about 4 months pregnant, but she was planning to do an ultrasound when she was in Boston. Her sister Lexie was flying in to help her with the stuff tonight, Meredith hoped she'd be able to fly back tomorrow. A gentle knock on the door shook Meredith out of her thoughts. '' Meredith, I don't want you to leave when we're fighting'' said Cristina. Meredith unlocked the door and looked at Cristina, tears in her eyes.
'' Lexie will be here in an hour'' muttered Meredith '' She's helping me ship my stuff tomorrow, because my flight leaves tomorrow night''. Cristina glanced sideways toward Meredith '' Don't forget about me'' sighed Cristina '' I understand now, why you're leaving. But please keep in contact. I'll fly out, or you can. We can't lose sight of each other Meredith. I would love to meet your child one day''. Meredith wiped a tear away as she placed her hand on Cristina's hand '' I will never forget about you''.
That next morning, everything was set and ready to go. Meredith placed a letter on the table for Alex and Izzie, stating that it's their house now. Meredith followed Lexie out the door and closed the door behind her one last time. '' I've scheduled you an appointment at Boston General with an OBGYN for your ultrasound on Tuesday'' said Lexie as she got into the cab. '' You're about 16 weeks right? You could find out the baby's sex..''. Meredith smiled slightly, she placed her hand on her stomach and made tiny circles as she looked over at Lexie '' We'll see''.
A long flight later, they arrived at Meredith's new two bedroom apartment. The movers were already there with her stuff, they put all the furniture together, and placed all her boxes in the living room before calling it a day. Meredith handed Lexie a glass of water as they sank down on the newly installed couch. '' It's a great place Meredith'' smiled Lexie as she looked around, '' It is, thank you for supporting me''.
Both women talked until the middle of the night, before both exhaustingly falling asleep.
9 Months later...
Meredith woke up with a start, an excruciating pain shot through her entire body. Meredith's hands immediately grabbed her swollen stomach. She reached for her phone and dialled Lexie's number, after Lexie agreed to pick her up, Meredith texted Cristina. She reached for her bag and walked towards the front door, she sank down on the steps and waited for Lexie's car.
When they reached the hospital, Lexie helped Meredith get into the wheelchair and helped her towards the elevator. They went up and Meredith was assigned a bed. Her OBGYN walked over to her '' Well Dr. Grey, welcome. I am just going to check how far you're along''. Meredith nodded and squeezed Lexie's hand tightly as she was being examined. '' You're about 7 cm along. We're almost there''. Meredith yelped in pain as another contraction hit her. '' You're doing great Mer, Cristina just texted and she got on her plane''. ''Good, I'm glad'' groaned Meredith as she massaged her belly.
The OBGYN walked back in smiling after a while '' I think it's time, Meredith. Time to get those babies out''. Meredith looked over at Lexie afraid '' What if I'll be a bad mother?''. Lexie smiled sadly as she gently stroke Meredith's hand '' You're going to be a great mom. You'll have two mini surgeons walking around before you know it''.
Meredith screamed in pain as Lexie and her OBGYN gave her encouraging words. Yet nothing compared to the feeling she got when she heard a loud cry. '' The first baby is here, Meredith. It's a girl''. Meredith felt tears running down her cheeks as the OBGYN showed her the girl, her daughter. She didn't have much time to enjoy the young girl because a sharp pain hit her, indicating the other baby was coming. Another loud cry filled the room '' It's another girl, Meredith''.
Once everything was cleaned up, and the babies were both in a bundle of blankets, they were placed in Meredith's arms. '' Here are your daughters Meredith''. Meredith looked over to Lexie, her eyes filled with tears. ''Have you thought of any names?'' asked Lexie as she wiped a tear away from her cheek. ''I like the name Emma? Emma Alexandra Grey'' whispered Meredith. '' A-alexandra'' stuttered Lexie. '' You're my sister, I love you'' smiled Meredith. She gently caressed the cheek of her daughter. ''Evelyn Cristina Grey'' she stated. '' Emma and Evelyn'' smiled Lexie as she took one of the babies from Meredith.
Meredith woke up that next morning by a gentle tap on her shoulder. '' You're a mom'' whispered Cristina when she noticed Meredith was waking up. '' I know'' smiled Meredith groggily. Cristina took a seat next to Meredith and held her hand tightly '' What did you name them?''. Meredith smiled and pointed towards the sleeping baby on her left '' That's Emma, Emma Alexandra Grey'' and then she pointed towards the other baby '' That's Evelyn, Evelyn Cristina Grey''. Cristina squeezed Meredith's hand '' Thank you''.
