The next few days followed the usual routine Rory had found for herself at her grandparents house; Get up, breakfast- pop tart or bagel and decaf coffee (it wasn't the same but caffeine wasn't good for the baby) in the kitchen, then into her Grandfather's study for writing and editing, lunch on the patio and a bit of weeding and looking after the garden- one of Emily's conditions to her staying without any maids or gardeners there. Then back into the study for more writing, dinner in the kitchen then into bed with a good book, she currently had 3 on the go. Only one was a baby book.
Rory had talked her Grandmother into keeping the house 'just in case'. Emily had agreed and when Rory casually dropped into the conversation she had nowhere to live, of course she was welcome to live with Lorelai but a 30 something shouldn't still be in her childhood room, besides Lorelai and Luke were getting married and would want their own space, Emily had insisted she stay there. Emily was always insistent if she thought it was her idea. She had been getting ready to call all the household staff when Rory had ensured her she would like some peace for writing and having staff around the house would be too distracting.
Rory was still doing some bits for the Stars Hollow Gazette but that only came out once a month and she wasn't making any money from it so after she had updated the computers and actually linked them to the internet she knew Charlie and Esther didn't need her there to sort it. A lot of the content could be reused each month with a bit of updating and she had asked members of the town to write pieces, email them to her to edit. Now she only needed to go in once a month to put it together and send it for printing. This left her lots of time to focus on the book but also gave her something else to turn to when she needed a break.
She had the bulk of the book done. The earlier chapters had been a breeze to write but she still couldn't find a definite starting point, should she start when her Mom got pregnant? Or when she had been born? Or when they moved to Stars Hollow? Either way she had all that covered, it was better to write too much and have to cut bits than miss out on making the book because it didn't have enough in it. It was her time at Yale she needed to flesh out a lot more, there was so much from that time she didn't want to miss out but at the same time it was so difficult to revisit in her current state and the more she thought about her current state the more she thought about him.
Even with the mess that had been her love life over the last few months, she knew who the father was. It didn't matter anyway, he was getting married. Odette was the right choice, rich family, 'proper' up bringing, a definite lady of society. Rory had never met her and Logan had been very careful not to talk about her with Rory but curiosity had gotten the better of her one evening and Rory had googled her. Pages and pages of 'heiress does this', 'heiress meets whoever'. Within 2 lines Rory knew she hated her and made sure not to bring the subject up with Logan. It was almost irrelevant now apart from the fact Rory knew she should tell him about the baby. But no good could come of it and if she stopped this wedding it would cause even more difficult between them all. She knew she wasn't the right material for his family.
Yes Logan had asked her to marry him on her graduation day but he clearly hadn't thought it through, his family were definitely not consulted on it. Looking back now she wished she had said yes at the time, she wouldn't have noticed much difference to how her life had turned out, they had managed the long distance thing during her last year at Yale and apart from the obvious issues in their more recent relationship they had lasted longer than expected this time. It might have lasted longer if she could've got over the fact he was marring someone else, she was sure he would have kept it going longer.
But there was no point in thinking what could have been, just what to do with the situation now. Before she realised what she was doing she wondered what he would say. She had started doing that over the big decisions in her life, she had told herself she was thinking like the Life and Death Brigade but really it was just him. "Don't over think it Ace. Live for now. You were getting better at that, what happened?"
She needed to pull herself together. Her Mom was due home tomorrow, hopefully she would be some help, or maybe Luke, he definitely knew by now.
