A/N: Thank you so much for reviewing/following the last chapter. I honestly didn't expect it to grow as much as it did. Even though the numbers are not as big compared to the big stories, I really do appreciate the little reviews here and there. I literally smashed this chapter out in a day because I was so happy. Please, enjoy the second adventure.
Q/A: I am willing to answer any questions as part of the story as long as it doesn't spoil anything. I spent quite a bit of time planning this story out and honestly, it is a mess to me too. Please feel free to ask/comment anything on your mind and I would do my best to address them.
Eight children, attending camp, were guided by mysterious devices to File Island, a place where Digital Monsters—Digimon—lived. Soon after their arrival, they were attacked by a terrifying Digimon, known as Kuwagamon. Just as they were driven into the corner, the tiny Digimon that were following them evolved, but even though they had defeated Kuwagamon, it came back, putting the children in great danger.
The children continued screaming as they were falling. Their Digimon partners tried to think of ways to save their partners: Piyomon, Tentomon, and Patamon tried to fly up with their partners, but failed because they weren't strong enough to carry more than their own weight.
Palmon held onto Mimi and extended her vines to hold onto the little crevices on the mountain side, but also failed because that rock ended up detaching. Lopmon climbed on top of Juri's head and spread out its ears, slowing down their drop slightly.
"Marching fishes!" Gomamon shouted when he hit the water. Just as Juri's feet were about to touch the water, numerous amounts of different colored fishes appeared under her feet.
Besides Jou, everyone didn't fall in the water at all. They landed and bounced slightly on the colorful fish raft that Gomamon summoned. Juri let out a sigh of relief, thankful that she was dry and then sat down.
She took a look at her knee to see that it had naturally stopped bleeding because of all the dried up blood that was on there. Lopmon took a glance at it as well, worried about her partner. Her eyes began filling with tears because Juri was hurt protecting her.
Juri and Lopmon picked up a sound of a couple of rocks falling as Yamato shouted, "Hey, over there!" Kuwagamon had headed to the edge, near them and began falling into the river too.
"Faster!" Gomamon shouted, making the raft move faster. Juri was surprised at the fact that Kuwagamon didn't just fly towards them again, but seeing that her friends made it out alive, she wasn't going to question it.
Kuwagamon's body along with a couple of boulders crashed into the water, sending ripples of large waves out. The fish raft became unstable as water sprinkled all over the children. Water splashed uncontrollably as everyone lied down and gripped the raft, flat on their stomachs.
A large wave crashed into shore, sending the children towards land. Juri regretted the moment of relief that she had from staying dry because everyone was pretty wet right now. She took off her hat and wrung it out. "Allow me." Lopmon said before shouting, "Tiny Twister!"
Lopmon leapt into the air and spun around rapidly, drying up everyone's clothes at once. "Thanks." Juri gave her partner a small smile before sitting down on the ground. Lopmon hopped into her lap and looked at her knee.
"What's a deal with those fishes?" Jou sighed, feeling relieved that they were finally on stable ground.
"Those were my marching fishes." Gomamon explained, "I'm able to control fish at will."
Juri watched as Jou readjusted his glasses before commenting, "I see, so it was thanks to you! Thank you, Pukamon, I mean…" Juri could understand Jou's confusion. Pukamon was a brown seal after all and now, this creature was white with four flippers instead of two.
"It's Gomamon."
Juri looked at the brown rabbit in her arms, looking at it right in the eyes. "Did your name change too?"
"That's right." The Digimon nodded, "I'm Lopmon now."
"We've evolved." The yellow Digimon, Agumon, announced.
"'Evolved'?" Taichi asked, confused, "What does that mean?"
"When something changes over time." Juri answered. She was very familiar with that word as it was the theory of the development of humans.
Koushiro added on, "Normally, it's when organisms in a species change in order to adapt to their environment."
"Here, let me treat that for you." Sora smiled kindly before taking a seat next to Juri. The others went on to discuss evolution.
"It's alright…" Juri said before wincing from the sting pain caused by the disinfection that Sora is providing. She hugged Lopmon a bit tighter as a band-aid was placed on her knee. "Thank you…" She muttered out.
Sora gave her a surprised look before smiling, "It's no problem at all. Don't feel bad about asking for help."
"What are we going to do now?" Yamato asked everyone.
Juri thought about what Yamato had asked. They were in a strange place with strange creatures. They were children, what were they supposed to do? "Let's go back where we came from!" Jou suggested, "We should wait for the adults to come find us."
Juri didn't think that was the best plan that they could come up with. She looked up at a cliff: they did just fly off the edge of the cliff and drifted downstream. "Easier said than done," Taichi argued.
"We've been swept pretty far." Sora agreed.
Yamato continued, "It doesn't look easy climbing up that cliff either."
"Then what should we do?" Jou inquired, walking over to Juri. He lifted her to her feet and held her hand, "How about we look for a road somewhere?"
So many thoughts and questions ran through Juri's mind right now. As bad as she was with directions, she knew that if they were to get back to camp safely, they should go exploring. However, exploring will lead to them getting more lost and perhaps adults were looking for them. She let out a heavy sigh, not knowing what to do or even say to contribute to the big kids' conversation.
"You said that this was File Island...right?" Sora mentioned, catching Juri's attention.
Juri thought about the name for a while, with no memory of ever hearing that name before. Did she not study enough? She was sure that she didn't miss File Island on a recent geography test, but then again, she didn't get a perfect score on it.
Jou jerked her hand and the two started running after the group who left ahead of them. Juri wasn't sure what was going on, but whatever they were doing probably wasn't the worst idea ever.
Gomamon hopped into the river and swam near them as the others remained walking on land. Juri held onto Jou's hand as they walked behind the others. "How's your knee?" Jou questioned, adjusting his glasses. "You should have told someone about it before we ran around all that time. It could have gotten infected."
"It's fine now." Juri muttered, "I'm sorry."
"You can't just apologize every time." Jou let out a sigh, feeling bad that she had to worry about such a thing, "Your health is just as important. What am I supposed to tell mom or dad when they find you hurt?"
"I'm sorry." She repeated, "I'll try harder not to get hurt next time."
Jou didn't push the topic any further, understanding where she was coming from. "Sometimes, I wish she acted more like a kid than an adult." Jou thought to himself, looking around the area. "This place doesn't look like Japan at all...everything looks really strange."
"These Digital Monsters should have been a big give away that this place is strange." Yamato coolly commented.
Juri listened to the many conversations going on amongst the humans and their Digimon. She looked down at Lopmon who was walking alongside her. Lopmon's ear was wrapped around Juri's arm, "How are you feeling?"
"Never better." Lopmon's ear perked up, "Seeing that Juri is okay makes me feel okay too." Lopmon went on to nuzzle Juri's arm, making her smile. "You're really strong, getting hurt like that and not crying. If it was me, I would have cried so much."
"Crying is only natural." Juri brushed off the admiration Lopmon had for her. She wasn't all that tough, she just didn't want to be a bother. "If anything, I want to be more like you," Juri admitted. "Being able to be so free-spirited, it's…" Juri's ears twitched, stopping before everyone else did.
Everyone walked further up ahead before stopping, as Gabumon recognized the ocean scent. Juri ran up with Lopmon to gather with everyone, "Do you guys hear the…" She breathed before getting cut off by the sound of a ringing phone. "That..." She faltered.
"Why is there a phone ringing in a place like this?" Sora questioned.
"Someone must be looking for us!" Jou happily shouted, pulling Juri to run along with him towards the sound. They all followed behind Jou, running to the beach. On the site, there were six phone booths lined up in a neat row, evenly spaced apart.
When Taichi opened the door to one of the ringing phones, it stopped. "I can't believe that there are phone booths here," Koushiro observed, "It's irrational."
Juri looked at the phone booth, agreeing with Koushiro. They appear to be like the ones they have at home, but this place doesn't feel like home. "We must still be in Japan!" Jou concluded.
"Japan?" Gomamon asked, "Jou, what's Japan?"
"Probably not." Juri shook her head. "I think that we are probably near Japan though," the phone booths were like home after all. The locals are probably close descendants of some sort.
"Good idea." Taichi complimented before reaching his hand out towards Koushiro, "Lend me ten cents."
"What are you going to do?" Koushiro wondered.
"Isn't it obvious?" Taichi questioned back, "I'm calling home!"
"Oh, then you can use my phone card for that." The spiky redhead dug inside his pockets and handed out a card to the older boy.
Everyone left for a different phone booth to call home. "Tomorrow's weather will be raining with a side of avocados." The automatic voice responded after a couple of rings.
"What does a side of avocados have to do with rain?" Juri asked Jou.
Jou looked at the phone questionably before redialing, "Currently, this phone is outside of the service area. Please move to an area with service and dial again."
Jou dialed again, "The number you dialed is out of service, calling again would be pointless!"
Juri let out a sigh, looking out of the phone booth to see the others gathered up with no luck. She looked back at Jou who was still furiously dialing and getting random words and answers each time rather than another person on the line.
She took a seat down inside the booth, next to Gomamon, who was watching Jou dial the phone over and over again. Everyone else had been resting in the shade, watching Juri and Jou stay in the phone booth.
Gomamon let out a yawn, covering his mouth with his flipper as Jou dialed for the thirty-sixth time. "You can go play if you want to." Juri informed Gomamon, "The ocean looks really nice."
"I can't leave Jou's side." Gomamon determined but looked at the ocean longingly.
"I'll stay with him." Juri promised, "Don't worry."
"If anything, I'll protect them." Lopmon agreed, flapping her ears. Easily convinced, Gomamon nodded and moved towards the sea.
"Hey Jou!" She heard Taichi call him, "You're carrying the emergency rations!"
"What?" Jou turned around, confused, "Why do I have to carry that?"
"The bag for Mimi-senpai…" Juri pointed out.
"Oh yeah," Jou suddenly remembered, "We've been trying to hand this to Mimi-kun." Jou handed the phone to Juri and ran over to them.
Juri reached up on her toes and began dialing the house number. "The time now is 54:65:013 PM. Beep. Be-" She hung up and dialed her dad's number. When the automated voice spoke, she hung up and tried her mom's.
"Juri, come here for lunch!" Taichi called, seeing that Juri was still in the phone booth waiting on Jou. She opened her mouth to refuse the offer, but she looked down to see that Lopmon was holding her stomach, and Juri's stomach chose that moment to growl as well.
She hung up the phone and grabbed Lopmon, running over to join everyone in a circle. "Each group is given three days worth of food." Jou explained, "Since our group had six people, six times three times three is…"
"Fifty-four meals." Juri calculated for Jou.
"Right! And if we were to divide that among eight people…"
"About two and a half days."
"That shouldn't be too bad." Jou faltered.
"Divide that by two because of the Digimon," Juri reminded.
"The food wouldn't last more than a day," Sora concluded.
"Precisely…" Juri nodded. Maybe if she ate less, there would have been more for everyone.
"Sugoi, Juri-chan." Takeru commented, "I can barely do the math in my class, let alone follow Jou-san like that."
"I studied a lot." Juri explained, "My brothers are all studying to become doctors, so I am studying hard like they are."
"Even, I don't think I would be able to do such a thing." Takeru pondered, "That doesn't sound like fun at all."
"Sometimes you just have to do what you are told." Juri shrugged, "It would make everyone happy."
"My mom says that as long as I am happy, she's happy." Takeru grinned, "We can't spend time worrying about stuff all the time. We're kids."
Juri opened her mouth to say something, but something distracted her from it. Lopmon hugged Juri tightly and Piyomon stood up, staring out into the ocean, "What's wrong?" Sora asked.
"Something's coming." Juri and Piyomon said at the same time. Juri hugged Lopmon tighter as the thing came closer and the ground began rumbling. Water suddenly shot out in between shore and where they were sitting, blowing up the telephone booths in the process.
Lopmon began crying as the kids got up and ran further inshore. Juri closed her eyes and shuddered at the sound of the phone booths crashing and breaking onto the sand. She hates loud noises. She continued running when suddenly, she ran into a wall, falling back on the ground.
She turned around to see the broken phone booths and a pile of sand growing and spinning sand out everywhere. "It's Shellmon!" Tentomon disclosed. "It must be his territory."
The pile of sand revealed a large grey shell and then a gooey pink Digimon appeared out of it, "Shell!" Its head kind of looked like Agumon's, but it had green worms like things on its head.
"Everyone, this way!" Jou called out, climbing up the wall that Juri had run into. As he climbed up, Shellmon blasted water from the top of its head, wiping Jou off the wall.
"Jou-nii!" Juri shouted, setting Lopmon down before diving towards Jou. He fell right on her back, knocking the air out of Juri and they both stayed on the ground together.
Seeing this, Lopmon's eyes hardened once more and ran towards Shellmon with the other Digimon as Yamato and Sora went over to tend Jou and Juri. Yamato and Sora lifted Jou up as Takeru helped Juri up. "Are you okay?" Takeru asked.
Juri nodded, taking in a deep breath, "Just got the air knocked out." She turned over to look at the Digimon getting wiped out because they were so low on strength. Juri looked over at Lopmon and then back at Jou to see that they were both weak.
Lopmon made her way to Juri by crawling, "I'm sorry." She sniffled, "I'm just so tired."
"No…" Juri shook her head and went over to pick her up, "It's okay, you did what you could."
"Agumon, we just have to make do on our own," Taichi ordered, since the others had their fallen Digimon to take care of.
Juri watched as Taichi ran around Shellmon, distracting it as Agumon blew flames at it. "Watch out!" She shouted when Taichi began hitting it with a metal rod. One of Shellmon's vines from its head descended and grabbed Taichi.
"Taichi!" Agumon shouted, trying to run away from Shellmon, but got caught under its hand. Juri felt so useless right now.
Water got blasted, blowing the kids further back from where they were before, soaking them. Taichi let out a loud scream as Shellmon gripped even tighter. Juri was wet and angry at this point. People were getting hurt and she wasn't doing anything to make them better.
It's not her fault, but she couldn't help but feel like she could do more. Her digivice began glowing as she did her best to take a step up. She looked at the wet people and Taichi being tied up. What should she do now? Millions of possibilities came to mind, but also millions of consequences.
Taichi let out a loud scream and her digivice began losing the white bars and disappeared completely when she dropped to her knees and held onto Lopmon. "Taichi!" Agumon snarled, letting a bright light shine out of Taichi's digivice instead.
"Agumon, evolve!" The Digimon glowed, growing bigger, "Greymon!"
Juri watched in awe as the little yellow dinosaur became a big, orange dinosaur, tipping Shellmon over. Taichi ducked and rolled safely on the ground, surprised at Agumon's second evolution.
Greymon used his hands and wrestled back and forth with Shellmon. Shellmon leaned its head in, blasting water in Greymon's face, but the dinosaur dodged it. He then lifted Shellmon up with his horn, tossing the creature into the air before blasting out a large fireball, "Mega flame!"
Shellmon, then flew far out into the ocean, with a huge splash. Greymon then glowed and shrunk, changing right back into Agumon.
Juri stared at the Digimon, in awe at what it was able to do in order to protect its partner. She looked down at her own partner, who was just as amazed as she was. "One day, I'll grow up to protect you like that too." Lopmon determined.
She hugged the bunny, "Hopefully one day I can make you strong like that."
Jou quickly got up and ran over to the broken telephones to see if they were still working. Sora and Juri stayed together to split up the food between humans and Digimon. "It was very brave of you, protecting Jou like that." She conversed with Juri.
"I'm just doing what I can to make him happy." She looked over at her anxious brother, "He's already worried enough about other things. I don't need to burden him."
"Remember that you're still a kid," Sora rested her hand on Juri's shoulder, "Look at Takeru." Juri saw Takeru laughing along with Patamon and snuggling him, "You can have fun just like him and still make others happy."
"Maybe." Juri supposed, not knowing if that was possible.
"Let's go back to the forest!" She heard her brother's voice suggest. "The forest we turned up in; let's wait for help there."
"Like the discussion before, we fell off a cliff, it's harder to get up than down," Sora argued.
"No more Kuwagamon!" Mimi whined.
"There are phones here," Juri commented, "I don't think that just Digimon stay here."
"There must be humans that put them here." Koushiro determined, "We should look for them."
"That's actually pretty smart," Jou said. "You can be pretty observant." Jou rubbed his sister's head, proud that she came up with an excellent deduction.
"I agree," Sora said.
Yamato nodded, "It's decided then."
"Yeah…" Jou still wanted to go back and wait for the adults in the forest, but he didn't want to discourage Juri for finally speaking her mind.
"I'll follow you to the end of time." Lopmon nuzzled against Juri's stomach. Juri picked up the little creature and hugged it, smiling.
"Make sure you don't leave your stuff behind guys." Jou reminded them as they checked to make sure that they have everything.
"Alright!" Taichi cheered, "Let's go!"
"Yeah!" They all shouted and followed behind him.
And so, the eight children and their Digimon set off...into an unknown world of adventure.
A/N: The more you guys review, the faster the upload. I am seriously so happy with all the support that I am getting from this series. It's not that I enjoy the popularity or anything, I just get highly motivated with compliments/ideas. This series would not be on a hiatus as long as I am motivated (honestly, I have Adventures 02 planned out already, so please, motivate me).
Just because I have things planned out doesn't mean that I am opposed to suggestions either. I took in the reviews of my last story and considered them carefully before writing and posting this story (that took a great 6 years). Anything would make me happy, a review, a follow, a favorite, or even a PM. Be my friend!
