Bringing to you chapter 2 of the Blackfyre route. Sorry if this one seems the weakest of the updates, I will try harder in the next update.
Now without further adieu, read on.
Chapter 2: The Summer Sea
Harry's treasure had bought Daemon nearly one-hundred and thirty ships, some were given to them by Myr from which the Golden Company had contracted with more than any other. He took the largest of the ships as his own flagship.
He named it after his alias, the Bryteflame, it would be improved over time but at the moment is like any other warship. It carries 120 men and 30 horses, all others vary between 80 to 100 men and a handful of horses.
They had to leave many of their fleet and all of their elephants behind, guarded by a thousand of his men and 500 sellswords. The sellswords he hired weren't the best of their profession but they are loyal, and they can scrap better than the most despite their losses.
Enjoying the swaying that the ship was making on the sea, closing his eyes and imagining the times when he was a child and he was looking out to the horizon from his uncle's home.
"Captain-General?" Turning, he saw three of his friends behind him plus Jon Connington.
The first of his three companions were Triston Rivers, an exiled bastard and outlaw from the Riverlands had joined the company two years before he had. He met the man after a fight with the Company of the Rose, a group of men just like the Golden Company who didn't wish to bow before House Targaryen.
His second friend was the youngest member of the company, Rolly Duckfield is very confident and is possibly his most loyal soldier. The man has the will to be great, possibly a successor to the company should he die before getting this Daenerys to her throne.
The last of his friends was actually the one who showed him how to ride those war elephants into battle, Will Cole displayed true caliber at his fifth battle over the Disputed Lands and Will saved him from being trampled on by an enemy knight and they've been fighting side by side ever since.
"What's the matter, boys?" He questioned the men and Jon, as blunt as he is had spoken up first.
"Some of the officers have inquiries on our goal, going to get Daenerys and if the rumors are true... Dragons?" Yes, it does seem rather uncharacteristic of them.
The Golden Company made its name on being true to their word, once a contract is made then that is who they fight for. He hopes his uncle sees this outcome and is watching the homeland, it would awfully troublesome if House Lannister and Baratheon hear of their movements.
"Gents! I'm sure you all are doubting our mission, I know... But I need you all to believe in me, believe in the prospect of Daenerys Targaryen being our shot to returning home." He said with a dose of mirth and charisma. "Our true home is Westeros, not Myr or Tyrosh or Lys or wherever we make camp." His voice was high, his determination to make his men believe him more intense.
Many in the Company were sons of Lords, bastards, and the common man or woman who had been exiled or pushed out of their respective Kingdoms.
Obviously, he's doing this for something different but he wants his men committed to the cause, the entire goal that started with the founder, Aegor Bittersteel.
The thing was after he's accomplished his mission, he won't care for having a flaunty title or a crown placed on his head. He'll take Dragonstone and keep his bloodline from dying out, he owes it to his mother all of House Blackfyre.
Maybe he'll meet a fine woman and have a few sons and daughters to keep him company, something simpler than what others desire.
Jon Connington cleared his throat, "You're right, Captain-General. We are sorry to have doubted you." Triston pitched in right after Jon and agreed with him.
"We are fighting to go home, it doesn't matter who it is we are fighting for because we are fighting for you, our Captain-General." Not exactly where he wanted this to go but he didn't mind at all, these men are his to command anyhow.
Daemon chuckled on the inside, thinking that maybe these men will be his protection in case Daenerys feels him too great a threat.
It's possible, he shares her blood, they are both Targaryen- The Blood of the Dragon. And I have a cock. The jestful thought was a true one, the Lords or the bigots of them won't feel so comfortable with having a woman on the throne and a woman alone.
Good thing he'll have his own protection if she feels so hateful towards him, when she finds out.
"I am glad to hear that, men. Now, let's focus on finding our lost Queen." The men said aye and went back to their business, it left him alone on the top deck other than the man steering the ship.
And Daemon smiled, turning his gaze back on the sea and watching the sun go to rest as the day began to end but saw a darkening cloud up ahead, he narrowed his eyes and cursed his luck.
"Well... Ain't this nice."
