"See you at the end of my shift Mrs. Hoven" I said before I walked out of Mrs. Hoven's room.
I didn't know how exhausted I was until I got to the nurses station in the middle of the ER after checking on a few of my patients as it was dead silent and no incoming was on the way in for the time being, so I made myself a cup of coffee and drank it in peace and until the end of my shift I was catching up on some paperwork I had to do and checking up on Mrs. Hoven and few other patients. When the end of my shift arrived I was ready to leave when I heard someone coming in, coughing at the top of their lungs and one of my fellow doctors went to help the man that came in.
I arrived outside the apartment building in New Jersey and went to unlock the door. When I got in I noticed a pair of shoes and coat lazily thrown on to the floor which only meant that Aaron, my boyfriend, was home. When I couldn't find him either in the sitting room watching television or the kitchen trying to find something to eat so took it he was sleeping in our bedroom after work, so I placed my stuff away quietly and that started to make food for me and Aaron when he would wake up from his 'beauty' sleep has he calls it. He keeps saying that he needs it if you what's to meet the standard that I set but I keep saying that he is more than handsome enough for any woman in the world but no matter what I do, he still claims that he needs it.
When I finished making dinner, I took two plates and filled them with dinner. I took a plate and placed it in the microwave to keep it warm. I took my plate and sat down at the breakfast bar and started to eat but before I could eat a bite, Aaron comes out of the bedroom awake or will awake as a person can when they get up from bed. But when he sees me he instantly wakes up and comes over and hugs me from behind and kisses my cheek. I told him where he could get his dinner even though he knows where I put it for him when he gets the chance to eat. He goes to get it and then sits next to me. We chatted about our day or the most entertaining parts anyway.
A few days later it was announced that there was some kind of outbreak but they didn't know what so the government advised everyone to stay indoors. I wasn't working for a few days to rest after a few extra shifts that I had done that week but when the news said that there was a shortage of medical personnel working I had decided to get ready for work while Aaron was sleeping.
When I got to work, I asked a nurse where I was needed. She gave me a file and pointed to a bed that is currently taken by a sick patient. This patient had a fever, a few rashes and had vomited while I was examining him. While treating a few other patients and making sure they were okay and that they could stay safe at home but the next thing that happened we weren't prepared for, gunshots were going off everywhere in the ER and bodies falling onto the ground and all you could hear alongside the shots were the screams of fathers for their wifes and mothers shouting and searching for their children all while keeping from getting shot.
After sometime, everything died down all I could see was a few lone survivors and the floor was covered in blood and bodies of men,women and children. I collected as many supplies so I could carry on and went to help those in need with a few nurses that survived the whole thing. After everything that today that happened, I just wanted to go back home and cuddle up with Aaron and forgot all that happened.
When I got home all I wanted to do was to relax and sleep and enjoy my life with the love of my life but when I was outside the door i saw that the door was damaged so I quietly pushed the door open and silently walked in. All I saw was all the furniture were turned and odd things from cupboards and tables were thrown onto the floor. There was no mercy in what happened. All I could think was where is Aaron? Is he safe? Is he even alive? Of course he's alive, he's Aaron keener nothing can kill him. So I packed my bags with what I need 1) because I need to find Aaron 2) because I feel unsafe here now. So I supplied myself all the things that I could find the apartment that could help me survive all of this and hopefully it will end soon.
