So while I loathe the Legacies show, it is realllllly bad and so cliche is it actually painful, it did show that Travlers were more powerful then we realized. They made their own Dark objects, which is making me think I need to rethink Samantha's powers and skills... not right now but for later when she is more experianced.
What are limits and powers you think she should have?
Oh and as much as I dislike Elena, a rewatch of the show made me realize that she is actually really smart but her emotions and morals hinder that.
Naturally, despite her considerable effort, Samantha ran into her dear sister Elena at school. Maybe it was fate, magic or twin sensing? Didn't really matter as her sister all but ran to her, pulling her in for a hug the moment they saw each other.
"Why did you leave so early?" Elena's voice didn't quite tremble, but there was an edge of judgment. It was sound far too familiar for comfort, an echo of her childhood wrapped into a single sound.
Despite her annoyance it made her smile, hugging her sister tighter. "I'm an early riser and I missed Mystic Falls. " A lie, but one her sister didn't need to know. "I wanted to walk here and sight see. I mean I have never been away for so long. I just came back three days ago and I've spent most of my days at home. I'm okay Elena."
"I was worried about you. I missed you." Elena's voice wasn't weak but Samantha could hear past the mellow, mildly toneless feel of her voice. She knew that her sister was still deeply grieving, still in pain. She held her tight and just tried to soak in her sister's pain as much as she could.
Unfortunately that is when Bonnie Bennet spoke up. "Hi Sammy."
She couldn't help the shudder or glare that crossed her face, turning to face the Bennet. "Don't call me that, I hate that name. Samantha or Jean is just fine."
"Mom and Dad used to call you that all the time." Elena glared at her, judgmental and bitchiness overtaking their cute bonding moment.
Samantha didn't care about that, focusing on both of the other girls. "They knew I hated that name and used it anyway, they thought it was cute. I miss them Elena but that doesn't mean we get to put them on a pedestal. I hate being called Sammy, so don't call me that and I swear Caroline if you hug me I will lock you in the Janitor's closet."
Said girl, beautiful and blonde, stopped behind her. Freezing under Samantha's glare. "How did you know I was there?"
"Your perfume, I've known you for my entire life. Pink Ice smells great, but you and I are the only ones who wear in around here." Turning to fix Bonnie with another glare, she barely restrained the urge to grasp her talisman and curse the irritating girl. "So, what is my name?"
The Bennet girl returned her glare. "Rude much? Fine, it's Samantha, happy?"
"Not really, but I'll let it go." Fixing another glare at Caroline, daring her to be her normal irritating self, Samantha hugged her sister again. "I've got to go, but I'll see you later. I can go with you to the Gravesite if you want?"
Elena, still clearly miffed by her tiff with Bonnie, nodded and allowed her grimace to fade. "Fine... I missed you."
"Same sissy." Kissing her cheek, she all but pranced away. Fully enjoying and embracing the judgmental looks she knew was blasting into her from Bonnie and Caroline. She was not in any mood to deal with idiots, no matter who they were. "Wait... I have history with Elena, shit I think Bennet is in that class. And it just gets worse... that's Tanner's class, lovely."
Gathering herself, tugging lightly on her talisman which was oddly calming since she could feel the lingering cold magic just under her finger tips, she strode towards her fate.
"So... the new guy, what was with the eyehumping?" Samantha enjoyed her sister's snort, the shocked look in her pretty brown eyes. It was just too much, she couldn't help but laugh at her. "I may have been trying to hide from Tanner's wrath, you know he hates me, but that doesn't mean I couldn't see you and new guy attempting to reenact Romeo and Juliet via eye contact."
Elena, ever the simple girl, rolled her eyes with a soft saintish smile. "I wasn't eye humping him, your being crude. He's just a cute guy, interesting."
"When you live in the same small town with the same idiots your entire life, I guess anyone seems interesting. He has a nice body and his hair is nice, but he looks like a cave man. His face is kind of odd, all square and stuff." Enjoying ribbing her sister, the shorter twin bumped into Elena a little. "What is his name?"
That made Elena's eyes widen, a lost puppy sort of look floated into her eyes. "I... uh... I'm not sure."
"Then ask him next time, but honestly Elena who knows what he is really like. I mean pretty doesn't equal good or decent. He could be a serial killer, rapist or general douche. Learn from my mistakes and get a name before you plow him."
"Nasty, but I'll keep that in mind."
"Good... now, onto adventure." She took the lead, trapesing through the Graveyard and sitting ontop of a grave, looking at her sister as she kneeled at their parent's graves. A feeling of pained nostalgia, the loss of innocence and a memory of a different time so starkly embedded itself onto the scene that it all but left her breathless. A weight, the familiar pain of grief and guilt weighed like a boulder in her chest.
Grasping her talisman, she channeled a little magic almost reflexively and sent a prayer to her parents, even if she knew that did not linger on the Otherside.
'Mom... Dad... I'm so sorry. I... even if the curse had nothing to do with your death, I am sorry I wasn't a better kid for you. Silly, I know... I appreciate you more now, so long after you died, then I ever did when I was alive.' Her sister, burying her head in her journal, never saw her tears or the almost agonizing pain that carved it's way through her face.
For that she was grateful.
Time passed quickly, much to her appreciation, while her sister scribbled to her hearts content. The daylight trickling through the trees felt good on her skin, a reminder that there was still some time to enjoy the weather before the winter overtook everything nice.
Unfortunately a wave of fog brought with it a chill, sapping the warmth of the sunlight and leaving the graveyard almost as earie as the New Orleans cemeteries had been. A tingle, not unlike her talisman's dark magic, washed over her skin. Fear began to trickle in, Samantha leapt off of the grave stone just as a crow flow behind Elena, startling her sister.
"Elena, I think we should go." Maybe she was being paranoid, maybe it was magic, but she felt unsafe in this openness of the graveyard.
From the very uncomfortable look on Elena's face, she felt the same. "Yeah, seems like it." That she didn't argue or look on the brighter side was a miracle in itself.
Together, both girls hurried away, though Samantha kept her mind sharp. She did not want to get jumped by anything here, or worse suffer the effects of the bloody curse on her bloodline. Mist was basically harmless, but it could be a precursor to something worse. She refused to get caught unawares.
"Are you both okay?"
To her shame, Samantha almost shrieked like a horror movie girl, turning around with a spell at her lips just in time to see the oddly square face of the new kid. Elena, to the surprise of literally no one, was looking at him almost starstruck.
"Um, yeah, yeah. Were you following us?"
It was hard not to give Elena a confused stare, in fact it was so hard that Samantha didn't bother to not stare at her sister like she was a moron. "Elena, this a cemetery. People visit them all the time, not just us." Rolling her eyes, she held out her hand. "Samantha Gilbert and this one is Elena. Sorry about her current lack of manners, I'm usually the irritating one."
Before Elena managed to pull herself together enough to respond to Samantha's snark or actually greet the new kid she had been eye humping at school, said new kid grabbed Samantha's hand, shaking it firmly. Somehow, Samantha did not react to the sudden rush of darkness and death that radiated from this man. She knew that either this man was a dark witch or a vampire. Either way, she was on guard and a little pissed.
'Why the hell did it never occur to me to get my family on vervain… damn it! Okay, first thing I am doing when I get home is to put that shit in our laundry and mix into the coffee. It smells amazing, so it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for Elena to wear something like that, same with Jenna. Maybe I can even put it in our shampoo...' Her mind returned to reality, focusing with razor sharp focus until she found the object she was honestly wanting to see. 'A daylight ring, kind of ugly but I can see that passing as a family heirloom. Lapis Lazuli... pretty stone. I wonder if I can channel that, Lenore said that it isn't a very hard spell to use. Maybe even I can cast it. I'll have to ask her later.'
"I can imagine. Stefan Salvatore." His smile was nice, but he just wasn't Samantha's type. Hopefully her sister would discover that he wasn't hers, given his lack of a beating heart. "Are you two okay, you seemed like you were scared?"
"I'm sorry, it's the fog. It's making me foggy." Elena, in perfect Elena fashion, started nervously ranting. "And then back there, there was this, this bird and it was all very Hitchcock for a second. That is the bird movie, right, Hitchcock? Oh, um, yeah like she said, I'm Elena. We have History together."
Stefan just gave a boy next door kind of smile. "And English and French."
"And I think your in my Chemistry class." Knowing they probably wanted some privacy for their odd half flirting, Samantha made a point to talk. She would not let her sister screw a vamp, she did not want her dying just yet. "You from here, I mean Salvatore is a Founding Family. I can't imagine this town is capable of letting go of such a prodigious bloodline." Was she being sarcastic...
Of course she was.
The Vamp actually looked at her with some surprise before a genuine smile crossed his face. "Yeah, I was born here but left. Military family. I'm staying with my Uncle at the Boarding House."
"That's... a painfully good story. No one will question him being a military kid, the whole honor thing alone would make most people to uncomfortable to dig further. Got to admit, it's clever.' Despite her respect for said cleverness, Samantha focused on the words for a pain spell and hoped she could cast it. "I like your ring, Lapis Lazuli right?"
That seemed to spark something in Stefan's eyes, a mix of understanding and hesitance. "Um, yeah. Family Heirloom, which means I am stuck with it."
"I mean there are rings, then there is that." Elena attempted to snark, gaining the attention of Stefan entirely.
It was in that moment that Samantha pondered her choices.
'I can't teach her about magic but maybe I can show her the vamps exist... how though? I could never subdue a vamp on my own, I have neither the skill or power to do that. Damn it. Maybe I can get Lenore to send me a protective talisman for her?'
"Twenty minutes Elena, you made me wait for Twenty minutes so you could get a phone number from the New guy?" Was Samantha whining, yes she was, did she care that she was whining? Not in the slighest. She hated being clingy, but she had to stay with her sister now that she had attracted a vamp. "Why would you do that to me, don't you love me?"
Said evil twin rolled her eyes. "Not when your acting like that. Besides you didn't have to stay with me, I could tell that you didn't want to."
'You might have been dead if I didn't.' Not bothering to tell her sister that, Samantha just shrugged and told another lie. Those were piling up for her it seemed. "Maybe I missed you Elena, I was gone most of the summer leaving you alone with just Jeremy and Jenna. I just know that you had to have been so bored without me here to annoy you. Why do you think I decided to go to the Grill with you? I don't even like the Grill or any of your friends, but my need to irritate you extends beyond that dislike. Plus I could use a burger if your going to force me to go to that stupid back to school party."
That made Elena freeze, her judgey eyes burrowed into Samantha. "Party, your going to that?"
Her hackles rose and she fixed a glare on her older sister. "Yes, I am. I got over my issues a while ago Elena, months before Mom and Dad freaked out and kept me under House arrest. I didn't even touch a drop of booze at New freaking Orleans of all places."
'I hate your friends and I am done partying. Do you have any idea what I am giving up by coming with you? Exposure to booze, surrounded by idiots I probably slept with, all to keep your helpless ass safe from a horny vamp. If he tries anything I'll jam a vervain soaked stake up his ass, not matter how nice it might be. Of course, I'll probably kick your ass for making me have to save you... either way I'm sure that at least some kind of Silver Lining will make today worth it weather you die or not.'
"What were you doing there anyway? I heard you talking to Uncle John about it." The Judgy eyes were back but somehow Samantha summoned the strength to ignore them.
"Learning about local legends and all sorts of historical stuff. Learned some cool things about the occult. Did you know there is a long history of pagan practioners in New Orleans, witches and voodoo and hoodoo and all sorts of cool things. Got my necklace from them actually." She froze, for just a moment, before smiling deviously at her sister, leaning forward to kiss her on the nose much to Elena's shock. "I actually ordered a special necklace to be made for you, it was supposed to be here today but I learned that there was an issue with their records. I had to resend for it."
Elena actually gave a beaming smile before familiar hesitance overtook her excitement. "It isn't a skull, is it?"
"No accounting for your poor taste, but no it isn't." She reviewed her sister's tastes, poor as they were, and slowly something blossomed in her mind. "It is a flower, metal like mine. It isn't cursed or anything, scouts honor."
"That just makes me more nervous... thank you, though. Really, I know your trying hard and I appreciate it." Elena reached out, grasping her hand and squeezing it. " I know how this will sound... but thank you for not falling apart."
Did Elena's word irritate her, despite knowing that her sister was at least attempting to be compassionate and sweet? Yes they did, very much so. She hated Elena's natural calm, knowing how fake it was. Her sister was the most anxiety ridden person she knew, but found it easier to fix other people. Always had... still, despite this, Samantha took it in stride and just smiled at her sister.
"Like Jeremy? I heard that you attacked him in a bathroom, confronting him on being high at school." It was an easy thing to enjoy, her sister's guilt ridden cringe. So few people called Elena out on her crap, no matter how much she loved her sister that would always be something she enjoyed. "Balsy move, one I've made a few times. I wonder who's supplying his stash. I know for certain it's not Vicki, not anymore." She drank in Elena's confused, mildly disapproving look. "I threatened her, trust me Sissy, you don't want her getting her claws in Jerbear. She is the definition of damaged and needy, she would drain him dry, giving nothing in return."
"Trust me, I know. I date her brother, remember." She rolled her eyes, a look of irritation that only Elena could manage crossed her face. Even as she applied her slight make up, the look managed to make her sister look much older and very bitchy. " Much as I like Kelly, her daughter's terrible. Watching Matt deal with those two was awful."
"I can imagine, I actually partied them. First person to bring the drugs and the booze, last one to go home. Trust me, it was rarely pretty. Anyway, I think it's time we go... but first, I brought you something." From within her pocket, Samantha pulled out a cannister, quickly latching it onto her sister's keys. "Mace! I know you may not like the idea of using it, but if your going to make googly eyes with Stefan before knowing him, you better be able to keep himself. If that fails, hit him dead center in his throat and run. Trust me, way more effective then a nut shot for a real psycho."
Elena just rolled her eyes. "And you call me smothering."
"I'm protective, your controlling. Not the same thing, Sissy."
'I hope that helps. I only had that cause John made me carry it when we went to New Orleans. I don't know if it actually can hurt a vamp. It can't hurt. I hope. How the hell is our luck bad enough for a vamp to have a thing for Elena so soon after our parents died? Is it the Curse or ridiculously bad luck. Doesn't really matter it sucks balls either way. Big hairy ones.'
Chapter end, tell me what you think in the reviews.
Simple but fun, a taste of the harder part of this series... the first season could drag by at times due to so many subplots and random mundane moments. Still, it's good training I think since I always struggle with those parts.
I already changed some parts just with this chapter, nothing big but still... your going to love how I plan to change the Tomb arc, That is going to be fun.
Love,
Your Ninja Overlord,
Mika.
