Sixth Year, Nearing the End of the School Year

James had entered the dorm with his hair more ruffled than usual, twigs sticking out all over the place, crumpled up rose petals scrunched-up in his hand.

"So," Remus began, not looking up from the novel he was reading, "I assume the little proposal you had for Lily didn't work?"

"She tore the roses, Remus. She ripped it all up and then threw it at me, the whole bouquet!" James blew air roughly out of his nose as he crossed his arms, pouting.

"And?"

"There's no more left to the st—"

"And?"

Sighing, James dreadfully answered Remus' pesters: "Professor McGonagall practically forced me to clean my 'mess' up. Does she have no sympathy?"

Sirius stifled a chuckle, before muttering, "No, she has the brains to realise Lily doesn't want to snog you."

Peter had let out a pig-like snort to Sirius' joke while James began striding to his bed. He whacked Sirius at the side of his face, dropping petals on him, before lying in his bed.

"It was just too simple of a proposal for Evans. I need to figure out something more romantic."

"More romantic?" Remus bit his lip, flipping delicately to the next page of his book. "If that's what you believe Lily desires."

"It's bloody brilliant, innit?" James squeaked, jumping up from his bed to seat himself and face the rest of the boys. "To show Evans that I truly do want to be with her."

Sirius' laughter fled the room, no longer being able to contain himself. However, James hadn't bothered to care — he was planning aloud new ways to ask out Lily Evans, the adored redhead.

"I could bring a whole orchestra to her!"

Remus groaned, finally shutting his book and looking up to his friend. "James—"

But James continued, "And forget stupid roses. That girl wants lilies! Of course!"

"James, don't you—"

"I can do it just before our Potions lesson next week!"

"James!" Remus' voice finally pierced through James' ears. He let out a dreary sigh, before continuing calmly, "Don't you think that this is enough? She's already turned you down twice the past week!"

"Because I wasn't trying hard enough. Each proposal to her was too bland and boring, I need to be extravagant."

"You need to catch a hint!"

"Has she been telling you this?" James queried, eyes turning into something deadly.

"James, I'm just saying what's best for you. The amount of girls out there who are fawning over you and you are chasing Lily! Take a break."

James scowled, before turning to Peter's direction. "He's being ridiculous, isn't he?"

Peter pinked, several stutters soon fleeing his mouth. "Well, I — maybe just… R-Remus made good points? D-did — so did you, o-of course. However, you… this, um—"

"'Course Remus is right!" Sirius blurted out in an exclaim. "The man is always right. We just haven't been stopping you because, well it's funny."

James eye-rolled, pulling out a twig from his hair. "Bullshit!"

"How'd you get that big of a twig in your hair from a rose?" Peter questioned, no longer stammering.

"Lily decided to push me into a bush after I asked her." James waved his hand dismissively, as if this meant nothing. "Anyways, Lily isn't a simple girl, she deserves more."

"Are you hearing yourself?" Sirius snapped. "You're becoming a maniac!"

"I am not a maniac! Peter?"

Peter's stutters had returned. "It's quite… erm, you know — complex to explain. B-but, if I had to… um, choose—"

"James," Remus hardly spoke, yet breathed out. It brought silence into the air and each one of them had glared at Remus, waiting for him to continue. "Why exactly are you so desperate to get Lily anyway? You can't possibly really like her this much."

"It's obsessive," muttered Sirius.

"Well… because I love her and I want to be with her. Always."

Remus gave out a sympathetic smile, not turning away from James, even when Sirius had let out a tiny gasp and Peter had been gaping.

"Well then, ponder over that during break."
