Disclaimer: I do not own Assassination Classroom or anything associated with it. I only own the OC Hiyashi Mizuki and her siblings. All rights go to Yusei Matsui.
A/N: Thank you to Nathan and Nathandacool for your reviews. They honestly made me so happy. This chapter is the story behind the betrayal. Kinda short but I'll post the next chapter sooner.
Flashback
"Konbanwa Gashuku-kun," she greeted, eyes cast down.
"Mizuki-Chan." His face was impassive, giving nothing away.
"... would you like to be seated?"
"Aa" he agreed.
She led him to a table sequestered in one of the corners and sat down with him.
"Look, I know this is against the rules but you have to understand. I need this job. I need the money." She explained in one breath. Her nervousness made her speak without thinking.
"Why? I was under the impression you come from a decently wealthy family." He asked. As the Chairman's son, he knew her family had donated money to the school the past two years.
Crap. I can't tell him about my dad because that could cause trouble. What should I do? She stressed in her head.
"Well?" He inquired. While his face portrayed nothing, his eyes told her he wanted the truth.
"I-I… because I need it! Shouldn't that be enough? I thought we were friends. My word should be enough for you!" She practically yelled. Hurt flashed through Gakushuu's eyes. She realized her mistake and called out right as he was standing to leave, "Wait! I-I'm sorry Shu-kun. It's not that I think you don't trust me and I don't want you to think I'm using our friendship. I just can't tell you. It's too complicated."
His violet eyes softened a bit at seeing his best friend so sad. Sitting back down, he looked her right in her hazel eyes, grabbing her wrist when she tried to avert her gaze, and said, "Zuki-chan, whatever it is I can help. You can trust me"
She bit her bottom lip, almost tearing up because of his sincerity and kindness that he showed to her and only her. "I know, but there is nothing you can do. This is something I have to do myself. He would be furious if I said something."
Immediately Gashuku's body stiffened. "He?" Gashuku questioned in a hard voice.
"Huh?" She replied confused, not realizing her slip up. Working nights made her tired which in turn dulled her thinking.
"Mizuki, is someone threatening you?"
"WHAT?!" She shouted, practically jumping from the seat in surprise. Her face turned beet red as she quickly yelled, albeit in a quieter voice, "No… of course not, why would you think that?"
"You said he. Is there someone in your life forcing you to do something you don't want to do?" He asked, mistaking her red face for a yes. The thought of her being threatened made his blood boil. He wanted to find the punk and ruin his life until he was nothing but another ant on the ground.
"Nope." She said attempting a firm tone. Unfortunately, he knew her too well and her body language gave her away as she twirled her chin length bangs absentmindedly. A slow twirl would mean she was deep in thought but this was her fast nervous twirl that gave away her lie.
"Fine. It seems you have no intention of telling me. That makes this much easier for me to do. I have no need for a useless pawn, so I'm finally getting rid of you." He said with a cold voice to mask his true feelings.
"...what?" Her voice was barely a whisper. "Shu-kun, what is this all of a su—"
"No." He interrupted, "From now on, you may call me Asano-san as all others do. Also, as the test results have shown, there is another who can replace you as the English major of the Big Five. You are no longer useful to me. Expect a notice containing the details of your punishment for your transgression of the school's policy that a student may not be employed during the school year." Finishing his speech, Gashuku quickly got up and walked out the door.
Mizuki sat there. The jingling of the bell still echoing in her mind as she replayed what happened. He used me? No longer useful?
That night, Mizuki cried harder than even after her mother died.
