Inuyasha POV

Grandpa passed away a few days ago. My parents were too busy with their jobs to help, so I stepped up and too charge. It was over the summer too.

You know, I had everything going for me. Life was too perfect. But it's just that... Life was TOO perfect. I had an amazing girlfriend. I was going to ask her to marry me. She was about a year older than me, But I didn't care. She made me so happy and I thought I was making her happy too. Until I found out that she was cheating on me.

Well she wasn't exactly cheating on me, she told me we were never in a relationship and that she faked everything with me. She was trying to get in my pants, to see how it was. I refused each time she tried anything. I grew up with my father telling me to never sleep around because you might end up mating someone. So, I am proud to say that I am still a virgin. I don't care what other people say about me. I haven't found my perfect mate yet…

Well I did. She was a few months younger than me. A friend of mine. We grew up together. We liked all the same things; we had the same friends. She was everything I wanted, but the thing is at the time I didn't want her. We confessed our feelings for one another, but I told her I wasn't interested in her like that yet. I even asked her if she could wait for me.

At that time, she just smiled and nodded and told me she would wait for me. The whole group hung sometimes, we would all game on our PC's. We took turns with where we would all sleep. When Kikyo found out about all of this, she didn't like it. She also didn't like that I was hanging out with my friends.

I should've seen the warning signs right then and there, but I didn't. I would hang out with them secretly. After the whole thing with Kikyo, I heard my grandfather was sick and jumped right on the bandwagon and volunteered to go and take care of him. I was too embarrassed to tell anyone what happened, and I needed to get away to clear my thoughts and be a better person for my mate. I know she's waiting for me. I can't wait to have her.

"Are you ready Inuyasha? Your friends are all waiting. They threw a party for you." My mom said walking over. I eventually told my mom what happened. She wasn't surprised, she was sad because I got hurt but then she started to hit me.

She kept saying repeatedly about how I could do such a thing to my mate and how disrespectful it was to even ask my mate to wait for me. Then she dropped a bomb on me.

Kagome already had a boyfriend. When she first said that, my heart dropped. I couldn't blame her. At first, I wasn't even going to come back and mate her, I was going to mat Kikyo. Thank goodness that didn't happen. I didn't hear anything after that. Once again, my mom hit me.

"Inuyasha! Pay attention to me when I'm talking to you!" She said. Giving me that signature mom glare.

'Yes... I'm sorry. I just feel horrible now… I missed my chance. I'm sure she's happy in her new relationship." I said.

"Nope, He is such an A$$, He doesn't treat Kagome right. The spark in her eyes is gone and her fire of feistiness is gone. He took all of that away. Its just like she's a shell of a girl. She doesn't come over and bake anymore or help your father with his paperwork." MY mom said, I could smell the salt. She was crying.

I quickly hugged her.

"Mom, please don't cry. I will get Kagome to come back to me, if it's the last thing I do. I need to make it up to her. I treated her horribly. I need to treat her like the queen I know she is." I said.

"Good! You better!" She said, wiping her eyes.

"Now if you are ready, we can hit the road." She said. I walked out of the house and looked up at it. Grandfather left it for me and my mate to live so we could start a family. He knew who Kagome was and gave me the 'OK' to mate her. I was so happy at the time; He even gave me one of grandmothers' old rings to give to her.

I wasn't going to disappoint him.

We got in the car and I quickly texted the group chat.

'Hey guys! Back in town!' I sent with a little smiley face. About two minutes later. I started to receive messages from everyone in the group. I was really waiting for Kagome to send one. I quickly shook the feeling of yearn and said that we should get together for a game.

We all started talking. We would meet at Miroku's house. I decided to text Sango. I really wanted to hear from Kagome.

'Hey Sango' I sent; I didn't have to wait long.

'Hey Inuyasha! So excited to have you back.' She sent back.

'Yea, I'm excited to be back. Have you heard from Kagome? She hasn't sent a message in the group.' I said, might as well be up front about what I want. And that is Kagome.

'Yea, I think her boyfriend is over. He doesn't like her to pay any attention to anyone but him when he's over at her house.' She said. The thought made me so mad. I wasn't mad at Kagome... No, I couldn't be. I was mad at myself because I lied and hurt Kagome. I should have treated her with the respect she deserved as my mate.

'Wow! Really? He seems like such a jerk.' I sent back.

It was true, I know when we were all friends and would hang out, I have never seen him. I heard about him around school, but it was a mix between good and bad. Some of the girls kept talking about was how good he was in bed, while others would say he was a jerk. Who knows to be honest. But what Sango, and my mom have told me so far it sounded like he wasn't good news.

'Yea, he is. He gets upset whenever I'm over there with Kagome. Although she doesn't let him boss her around when it comes to her friends. But he was pretty rude this morning actually.' She sent back. I didn't get a chance to reply because we pulled up to my old house. Well my current one but hopefully not for long.

"Are you ready Inuyasha?" My mom called out. I guess I spaced out.

"Yea, I am." I said and got out of the car. I was one hundred percent expecting everyone to jump out from behind somewhere and yell 'WELCOME BACK!' but that never happened. I was so confused. A bit disappointed too. I turned around and looked at my mom.

"I thought you said everyone was waiting for me." I started to say when I heard something behind me. Well more so in the backyard. I walked to the patio door and opened it.

"WELCOME BACK!" Everyone said in unison. Everyone was there, my dad, Sesshomaru, his mate Kagura with their daughter Rin, Sango, Miroku, Shippo, Kohaku, Koga with his mate Ayame, Ginta and Hakkaku and even Kagome, with who I am assuming is her boyfriend. Everyone was wearing my favorite color.

Red

Kagome was wearing a red one-piece my mom helped me pick out for her birthday before I left. It looked amazing on her. I had a little smile on my face.

I walked down and our group. Our family called us The Herd. We were always together. I mean always.

Kagome was the first one to run up to me. She practically knocked me down. I was not ready for that, but I so welcomed it.

"I am so glad you are back Inuyasha. You have no idea. My best friend is back." She said.

'Ouch' I thought. I know she doesn't know of my feelings, but I was friend zoned. I was so caught up in the moment of us just talking and how good it felt to have her presence next to me. I could stay just like this forever.

"Ahem." A voice from behind me said. I knew it was her boyfriend. I didn't turn around. I just kept my eyes on Kagome and the way her eyes widened, and I could tell she was either nervous or scared. She moved around me and to him. I had to take deep breaths so I wouldn't do anything.

U-um... Bankotsu, this is... This is one of my best friends I-Inuyasha." She said, she was stuttering. I turned around and he was looking at her as if she was the dirt on his shoes. But just as the look was there, it wasn't. He turned towards me.

"Hello, you must be new here. I haven't seen you around." He started out. I cut him off.

"No, I'm not new here, I've known Kagome since we were kids. I was just away taking care of my grandfather. I just came back today." I said. Smirking a bit. He once again looked at Kagome and then held his hand out.

"Well, That's nice. A friend of Kagome's is a friend of mine." He said and held out his hand for me to shake. I looked at him and then looked at his hand. I turned towards Kagome.

"We were all going to get together soon to game like old times. I'll text the group and ask when would be good." I said and gave Bankotsu the up and down look and then kissed Kagome's hand and walked away to go talk to my father.

I was going to find out what Bankotsu was doing to Kagome and I was going to end it. Kagome is my mate. I wanted her and I wanted her by my side now. I walked over to my dad and started talking to him about coming to his job to work a little everyday after work.

"Try and see if you could get Kagome to come back with you as well. I think she had fun in the office." My dad said, I laughed.

"Yea dad, she had fun at the office." I said not being able to control my laughter.

"What did I say that was funny." He said. I looked at him straight in the eyes.

"You only want her back because you miss her being you secretary because your old one won't stop hitting on you or your sons." I said with a straight face. He looked defeated.

"You're right. It's true. I was thinking of firing her and making Kagome my full time secretary but she's at school all day so I have to be stuck with her and I don't want to ask your mother because she already works so hard and I think Kagome not coming around has kind of put her in a mood. Plus! I miss my daughter in law." My dad said and I gave him a look.

"Oh, son don't try to deny it. I know she's your mate. Heck I think everyone in the world knows Kagome is your mate. Well… Everyone except Kagome. When are you going to change that?" He asked. I looked down a bit ashamed.

"I don't know when or if I will tell her… She has a boyfriend." I said. Just saying the word breaks my heart into a million pieces.

"So, what! Your mom was in a relationship when we met. I just showed her what a real would do for his mate and she came around." He said and walked away, leaving me to my thoughts.

That's what I'll do. I will show Kagome what a real man would and wouldn't do.

"Kagome, you deserve the world and I'm going to show you." I said while looking at her.
