The redhead plugged and downloaded the different USB drives from the boxes all onto Mello's computer if they were not encrypted which only a few were not. They were ones that didn't really connect but Mello read them all feeling proud for these simple cases that they took on themselves. It made him want to find their killer even more now.
"I understand the dead a little more now but they didn't need any help for these one or two of them didn't ask for much just little favors one found someone's lost dog in exchange for dog food. I'm not sure if that's for them to catch the dog or those guys had pets of their own." I said saving the files onto my computer under the new case folder which I had no name for yet.
"If you are going to be undercover we need to change your clothes and accent so no one knows you are Mello. Oh and keep your chocolate consumption in public to a minimum." the redhead said biting his lip as he started to decrypt the files. The blond nodded and put an energy drink next to the green-eyed, ruby head. The redhead smiled and took the can.
"I'm keeping my hair but the rest is going to be changed." Mello replied as he grabbed his computer to buy new clothes. He needed blue, skinny jeans, white tank-top, black finger-less gloves, black tuxedo shoes, and a brown leather jacket. He was going to be A and not his usual self but it didn't mean he couldn't still hold some of his taste. He looked for online stores that could ship to him quickly or had easy pick up from his location.
He saw they were pretty easy to pick up but they wouldn't be available until tomorrow. He ordered from his card and except for the shoes, he would be able to pick up the next day from the close stores. The shoes, he'd have to get at an expensive store in London.
"Looks like I'll need to wait for my shoes unless I'm going to be undercover in London" Mello said hoping L or Matt could give him details. He decided to check the box for any paper files. He found none so he decided to email L what was not encoded. It wasn't much but these small cases L could give credit in the eulogy for each of them even if he'd never attend the public funeral leaving that part to Watari's Quilish Wammy side.
L emailed back some details needed for the undercover. A's quirk was eidetic memory. That was in itself tricky to replicate. The place was still not told but at least Mello didn't have to get an acquired taste for anything. They were most likely making a house for him. Mello couldn't help but wonder what happened to all the houses he was in before this one.
He closed his laptop putting it in sleep mode while he fell asleep to the sound of the red head's typing. It wasn't long until the blond started to dream that impossible dream of winning L's successorship and his love. It started the same way it always did, a test where he knew the answers and the white head answered all but one correct while he got all correct. After that, he was shown in the ranking paper that he was number one. He would be given a letter in an elegant script and open it. Usually, he'd get the letter but a buzzing sound on the computer woke the blond up.
"Whats going on?" he asked confused and irritated that his best dream was ruined. The redhead sighed.
"I got you some encrypted files but we are talking a week or a month to get them all I got myself locked out of a few tightly guarded ones but the lightly encrypted are open now." He transferred the opened ones to my computer. These cases were ones you'd see in a normal police file that wasn't too horrific sure some had dead bodies and cops injured but no cop killers or anything like L and Mello had to face. Only one encrypted file was not a case, it was just a plain location with no context to it.
Mello sighed and decided to check out this location on the map. It had nothing a broken-down church but nothing else was of value in that area. He was going to investigate it as A the first moment he could. He was glad to at least have a starting point even if it was a lousy one.
"Matt how long are you locked out of the really tight one?" he asked. The redhead took a big gulp of his energy drink.
"I don't know. It's hard to tell so they will stay untouched for a while until all level two encryptions are completed which each one might take one to two days depending on the number of computers and time I give them. " he said honestly as he sighed. He looked at his friend. "At least we got a lead. Something is important about that church. If I didn't know better, I'd say that one file was erased, purged even because the only reason location doesn't get purged is if someone was emailed those cord exits in an attachment. That changes the code." The redhead said making the blond shudder.
"Can you retrieve the data?" The blond inquired. The redhead shook his head.
"Not without the old hard drive, it was on. Luckily it's close to where you bought your shoes. L can give you a ticket to London now that we have something. " he said and sent the level ones to L from the blond's computer. There was no response from L which Mello found a bit odd. It still wasn't suspicious but it would be something to question his mentor about later.
