Linda: Hey, Maria! I'm shopping for something to surprise Danny with. Which one do you think he'd like better? I can't decide. She sent the detective pictures of the lingerie she had been debating about for fifteen minutes.
Smirking, Maria looked at her partner.
Maria: in all honesty, he'd say, while biting your neck, 'they're both amazing, but I'd much prefer them in a rumbled heap on the floor next to the bed'.
Linda received the text and laughed. "Maria said the exact same thing you did, Erin."
Linda's sister-in-law, Erin Reagan, chuckled as she still tried to decide which fancy underwear Linda should buy.
Linda: Erin said the exact same thing!
When Baez had read Linda's latest text, she laughed out loud.
"What?" Danny finally looked up from the paper work.
Holding her phone to her chest, she said, "nothing."
"Nothing my ass. Who're you texting? Is it that guy from narcotics?"
"For your information, it's a friend."
"We're not aloud to make personal calls in the precinct."
"Says the guy who has five minute conversations with his wife."
"I'm kidding!" Danny smiled, "now who is it?"
Saying the first name that popped into her head, she answered, "just my friend Avery." She sighed. "If you must know, Avery's shopping for lingerie. And she can't decide which color. She wants to surprise her husband."
"What does her husband want? Like, which color?"
"She says he'd rather see it on the floor than on her."
Danny smirked, "if it were my wife, I'd agree with him. Lingerie deserves to be on the floor."
Baez smiled. Why were they having this conversation? "She can't decide between lavender and navy blue."
"So She should pick a different color."
"What?"
"It's like when your family can't decide if they want Wendy's or McDonald's. So they go to Burger King."
"Fine. I'll tell her that logic."
Meanwhile, back in Victoria's Secret, Linda read the text. She laughed and told her sister in law about the text.
Erin pulled out a devil red lacy bra and underwear pair. "So get this one! According to that logic, this'll be okay."
"Okay. I really like the lavender, though."
"Linda, didn't you read the sign? It's Bo-go. Buy one, get one! So get both."
"I think I will."
Back at home, Linda couldn't decide if she wanted to wear the lavender or red lingerie. She really loved the lavender, but she remembered Danny telling her how he liked her in red. She sighed as she pulled out her phone. She waited until the person answered.
"Hey, what's up?" Baez answered, momentarily glad Danny went to get coffee.
"Maria, it's Linda. I bought the lavender lingerie and a red one. Now I can't decide which one to wear!"
"Which one would Danny like better?"
"As we established before, he wants 'em on the floor."
The detective laughed, "that's true. Which color does he like better on you?"
"He says me in red does something to him. I guess I could wear the red tonight, then the lavender some other night?"
"Yeah, go with that. Listen, Danny's coming back, so I gotta go."
"Okay, thanks, Maria."
"No problem. Bye."
"Bye."
"Who was that?" Danny asked, sitting down with his coffee. "Was it Avery?"
"Yes. But that doesn't matter. What matters now is the case."
"Mmhmm..."
"Hey." Danny kissed Linda's cheek, pressing his hand to her back. "Where're the boys?"
"Friend's house. They practically begged to go over there," she rolled her eyes.
"Ah. That explains the lazy attire." He gestured to her clothes, leaning on the counter with one elbow. He took a sip of his beer as she looked down at herself.
"What?" Linda was wearing sweatpants that were too long and big for her and an old T-shirt of Danny's. "This is what I wear. It's my 'I don't give a damn anymore' outfit."
Danny laughed and moved to stand next to his wife. He stole a green bean, "that a fact?"
"You should see my other outfit."
"What other outfit?" His lips slowly twitched into a smile.
"My 'I've got a surprise for my husband' outfit."
"Do you name all your outfits?" He slowly turned her towards him.
"No." Linda rested her forearms on his shoulders, her tee riding up a bit. "Only the good ones." She nibbled his ear, her hot breath tickling and exciting him.
The next day, Danny sat down at his desk, knowing how he was going to push his partner's buttons. "So... did... Avery, was it? Did she solve her problem?"
"I think so." Baez answered truthfully, "she hasn't told me yet."
"I can tell you she did."
Baez raised an eyebrow.
"Avery is Linda. Why else would you ask me those questions?"
"Oh, did I ruin the surprise?"
"No, I was still very much surprised."
"Oh, so you figured it out after Linda showed you the lingerie."
"Yes... So. Whaddaya we have for today?"
Baez smiled and handed him a file.
