Chapter 2

The ship docked at the harbor. Hiccup and Toothless rose from the boat and looked into the mistiness. Toothless groaned nervously. "I know, Toothless, I know, but we have to go on," Hiccup said. He walked carefully, putting most of the pressure on his non-metallic leg. Soon they got to the pub, which was the only building around it standing up. Hiccup got out his shield, which secretly had a crossbow in it. He walked in with Toothless at his side. He looked on the floor. Broken glass from broken mugs. Spilled beer and cider was splashed on the ground. The barkeep was on the ground with his rag by his side. He was not dead, but he was not conscious. So were the other people in the bar. Except for two silhouettes in the mistiness.

"Who are you?" commanded Hiccup. "What do you want?" There was no answer. There was a thump and the two fled. "Wait! Stop!" Hiccup tried to catch up to them, but ended up at their table. He looked at it. On it was a neatly wrapped package in the shape of a small cylinder. Hiccup took it in his hands. He found it surprisingly lightweight. He decided to wait until he got back to Berk to open it. So he started to walk back out of the bar. Suddenly, the barkeep groaned weakly, "They-They are here." "Huh?" Hiccup looked around. He saw the barkeep and took him up and laid him on a table. "What? Who's here? Tell me!" "The-The Dragons... They are in danger." "Why? Speak!" "Two of our trusted friends have returned. G-go to them. They-they will tell you everything." The barkeep fainted.

Hiccup ran out of the bar. Suddenly, he heard rustling in the bushes. "Toothless, come on!" Hiccup yelled. Then he ran after the two people who had been in the bar, with Toothless close behind. They ran through the forest until they came to an old abandoned outpost. Grabbing his shield tight, Hiccup walked on tip-toe towards it. He told Toothless to stay to watch. He went inside. There was no one there, but there was a ton of things inside it. A map of two different archipelagos, one where Berk was, and one where the Northern Markets was. On the map were red pins and yarn dyed red leading in a sort of pattern. Then there was a poster on the wall. 1,000,000 coins for the head of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III. It was not new, though. It was old and tattered. And Hiccup knew where it came from.

Suddenly, Toothless roared. Hiccup ran outside. He saw the two silhouettes, who were actually wearing very thick black robes, standing next to a tied up Toothless. They were both holding weapons. One had a dagger, and one had a Scottish claymore. Hiccup got his crossbow out. But the others were ready. Suddenly, though, the robed silhouette wielding the dagger put it away and instead unsheathed a flaming sword. Hiccup's guard went down for a second. "Vi-" He was hit in the head and knocked out.
