Kousei Arima. The Living Robot. The Human Metronome. Invited to Kamome Academy, somehow unaware of the school's reputation, he went to play.

Though the school wasn't known for its musical prowess, it, like all other schools, were allowed to hold festivals. It just happened that this one was a music festival.

One by one the pieces were played. And all the spirits in the school carried on with their lives. Until one Kousei Arima took the stage.

The duet that had to be played solo. Love's Sorrow. The waltz-like feel. The emotion felt in the same repeated notes. It was amazing all on it's own.

Then those who were spirit sensitive heard the unmistakable sound of the violin.

Kaori of the Hallway was playing with the living boy Kousei Arima.

The music was like a puzzle. It fit perfectly together. It was like it was practiced.

Then, as it started, it ended. With silence. The living and dead alike clapped with vigor, it wasn't a competition but if it was, this boy would have won.

And like with every boy she met, Yashiro Nene categorized this boy in the middle of her 'Fit For Nene' list.

Kaori wondered if he would see her. Kousei was wondering if he was imaging the violin.

There was only one way to find out.

"YOU DUMMY! PLAYING THAT WITHOUT ME! I WASN'T READY!"

"I'm sorry I-" Kousei comprehended a voice he thought he would never hear again.

"EH? WHAT DO YOU MEAN? YOU'RE THE ONE WHO JUST WENT UP AND DIED ON ME!"

"OH YEAH? WELL AT LEAST I..."

Their arguing continued.

Yashiro Nene and Hanako watched their argument with fascination. Yashiro put Kousei into the 'not Nene's type.' And Hanako wondered how Kousei could see Kaori. Only one way to find out.

Hanako floated over until he was in between quarrel.

"Hi!"

The quarrelers stopped, confused at the ghost boy who was floating between them.

"Eh? Why are you floating? Are you dead? Oh-no. This is a school for the dead. Am I dead?" Kousei rambled.

Kaori slapped Kousei. "You're not dead idiot. Only I'm dead and Number Seven over here is dead. Shes alive." Kaori pointed at Yashiro, "And you're alive." Kaori pointed at Kousei.

Kaori pointing at Yashiro made Hanako remember she was standing there.

"Yashiro, you haven't cleaned the bathroom today."

"I cleaned it yesterday! No one even uses your bathroom anyways!"

Hanako pouted. "But Yashiro."

The sound of the ghostly boy and the living girl arguing summoned the resident exorcist, Kou Minamoto.

"Is he bugging you?"

"Boy, I was doing perfectly fine with out your interference."

"It's okay, Kou, I was just trying to talk to the new ghost."

"A NEW GHOST?"

"HEY STAY AWAY FROM HER!" Kousei shouted.

Kou tried using his staff to exorcise Kaori, but it still had Hanako's seal on it. It sputtered with light, and fell silent once more.

"I had forgotten about that, cursed Hanako."

Said Hanako grinned, still standing near Yashiro.

Kaori, just stood there, astounded at the chaos this school was. "Well, that was fun, but I still have no idea who you are. I'm Kaori of the Hallway, this is Kousei Arima, the resident piano player, I would hope you know Hanako, the Seventh Wonder, and Yashiro Nene, assistant to Hanako."

"I'm Kou Minamoto, and if this seal wasnt on my staff that toddler over there would have been exorcised forever ago."

"Who are you calling a toddler? I'm older than you boy!"

Kousei decided to call out to the calm girl, "um Yashiro? Is it like this everyday?"

"Just about. Though usually theres more attempted murder."

Kousei looked appalled, Kaori leaned over and said "I think that's just how this school is."

"Oh. Okay."

And that was that.

And with that, Kousei Arima transferred to Kamome Academy.

-I probably won't do the senpai, kun, or chan name thing, it would feel weird for me to do it as a non-native Japanese speaker, it feels like I'm botching the tradition, so I just won't do it.
