A young woman couldn't sleep at night. Her mind was filled with all kinds of thoughts connected with adoption, which was to be completed within the next few hours. Then her protector's name began to occupy her subconscious. What she looks like, how she behaves, what she likes and dislikes, these questions were even generated by the brain. She didn't know the answer to them, which was both terrifying and annoying. She received a one-of-a-kind opportunity from fate and did not intend to waste it. She wanted to thank Evelynn for having adopted her while others were passing by without paying any attention to her. Akali promised herself that she would be a living ideal, so that never in the few months that she would spend with a woman not much older than her would Miss Smith regret her decision. Knowing herself and her abilities, the black-haired girl vowed to remain the best student, to help Evelynn in everything and not to disappoint or upset her. This was the final thought she remembered before the nothingness came.
The girl woke up a few minutes before seven. Wiping her sleepy eyes, she looked at the small old clock on the nightstand and realized what time it was. With her wide eyes, she jumped out of bed immediately and set off to the bathroom to take a quick shower. She woke up more than an hour later than usual, for which she cursed herself in her mind. Please, please, please, please don't let this affect my adoption - her mind was screaming. Terrified and angry at herself, Akali did all the morning's work at an express pace, and then, taking her little bag away, she moved to Mrs. Thomson's office.
It took a few minutes before she reached her destination, but to her great surprise and horror, the office was closed. The black-haired woman unintentionally began to sweat intensively, and her mind was again filled with unpleasant thoughts about the missed opportunity that had almost miraculously been sent to her from heaven. After a few minutes of intense worrying, she calmed down enough to think rationally again. Within a few more seconds she realized that the orphanage worker did not give her a specific time when she was to be picked up by her sitter. She stopped running from the spot, heading for the secretariat. Raised in spirit by the possibility that she still has a chance to leave these place, she did not rest before she reached the black ebony door. Having calmed her broken breath, she knocked culturally three times, and when she heard the loud "Enter", she pressed lightly on the metal handle, entering the room.
It looked exactly the same as she remembered it twelve years ago. The secretariat was on the second level of the building, exactly in the corner created by the walls of the structure. Compared to Mrs. Thomson's office, this room seemed to be huge. According to hasty estimates, at least three such offices could fit here, but she could be wrong. Another difference was the color scheme. Inside the room separated for the workers, the color of the night reigned, mixed with blue, while here the floor was ash, the walls were painted beige, and the furnitures were made of chestnut. The choice of colours alone made the room seem cosy. Through the large windows, measuring over a few metres wide, bright rays of morning sun fell into the room. Akali immediately turned to a large desk behind which a young woman was sitting, supplementing some documents. According to the girl, she could have been up to thirty years old, but her light brown hair was pinned up in a high putty, skin covered with lots of small freckles and young, vivid, green eyes contradicted her thesis.
- Good morning - black-haired girl started.
- Good morning. You are Akali, I assume - the older woman answered happily.
- Yes, ma'am - there has been an immediate response from a 17-year-old girl.
- Well, that's great. As Miss Thomson is absent today, Miss Hindler is waiting for you in her office - she said. By the way, don't call my like that, I feel old - she added, winking.
- So what am I supposed to call you? - the black-haired girl asked.
- I don't know if we'll ever meet again, but you can call me Samantha or Sam, whatever you prefer - she answered with a broad smile. Now run away, or the old bitch will nag - she whispered conspiratorially, winking again.
- Thank you Sam - Akali said while laughing. Have a good day - she added, waving at her.
- You too, our primus.
The teenager quickly left the secretariat and then headed for the ground floor, where Alice Hindler usually resided. It would be an understatement to say that black-haired woman was not a fan of this woman. This bitch, as she was called by Samantha, was the cause of practically all her problems in the orphanage. She always stood up for her peers who, for fun, accused her of many things, humiliated her, making her life a living hell. While the majority of the staff knew that these were exacting lies, the witch Hindler always punished her. Akali could bet everything she possessed that this woman would try to hurt her again and, as far as possible, prevent her from getting out of here. However, the young woman could not clearly indicate the reason why the bitch hated her so much. Despite her aversion to her, Akali always behaved the same towards every employee, even towards her. She was kind and helpful to everyone, independently whether this person taught them, took care of their upbringing, cleaned, cooked, or managed other processes. For her it was no difference, every person deserved the respect from the start. Besides, as we all know we cannot judge a book by its cover, so independently from someone's appearance a teenager tried to learn more about a given person before she formed an opinion about this person. It took her surprisingly long to reach the witch's pit, given the record-breaking pace she has maintained since she woke up. Apparently her aversion towards Alice Hindler and the fact that she will be responsible for completing the formalities on behalf of the orphanage influenced her more than she wanted to admit. Once again today she took a few deep breaths, and then went through the last few steps that separated her from the hideous, yellowish door that formed the entrance to the hawthorn's cavity. She waited another few seconds before lifting her clenched hand and knocking as gently as she could, trying to control the buzzing contradictory emotions inside her.
According to Akali's calculations, about a minute passed before she heard the sound of stiletto pins hitting a stone floor from behind a thick door. The door opened less than a few moments later, showing a witch standing in it, whom others know as Miss Hindler. She was dressed in a dark dress, a pair of inches high, burgundy-coloured heeled shoes and a blood-red scarf wrapped around her shapely neck. The black-haired woman could not deny that the blonde in front of her was attractive, on the contrary, she was one of the most beautiful women she had ever seen in her short life. The noble features of her face were pulled down in a grimace of discontent, her lips painted in the color of blood were clenched in a narrow line, and her eyes expressed deep hatred towards the teenager. With one hand she supported herself on the door frame, lifting her eyebrow in an act of pretended surprise, carrying the weight of her body to her left leg.
- And who the hell am I having the pleasure of seeing today? - she asked in a venomous voice.
- I'm sorry to interrupt Mrs. Hindler, but I was told in the secretarial office that you were expecting me - the girl replied immediately, leaning her head slightly down.
- Indeed - she mumbled. How it happened that whoever became interested in you remains a great unknown to me, but don't worry, I'll try to speak to this woman's mind as soon as she gets here - she spat out. Now come in, we'll wait for her - she said.
- As you wish - the black-haired girl replied.
The blonde immediately turned on her heel and, regardless of whether the teenager followed her, returned to her office. Again, Akala's ears have heard the sound of her heels hitting the polished granite that the floor was made of. Closing the door behind her, the young woman entered the territory of her nemesis. Instinctively, Akali began to look around the room. It seemed that the witch's office wasn't much bigger than the one belonging to Mrs. Thomson, but it was definitely richly furnished. The desk, two large wardrobes, three small tables and two guest chairs were made of noble wood and decorated with both plant and Greek mythology scenes ornaments. A huge armchair in which an elderly woman sat down was upholstered with leather. A thick burgundy-coloured carpet was placed under the desk itself, which easily dampened the sounds of the pins of the centre's employees. A large window modelled on one of the cathedral stained-glass windows was located just behind it and now threw a colourful glow on the whole room. The black-haired woman approached the ebony table and then stopped, waiting for an order to take some place indicated by the blonde. Alice just smiled mockingly and then started to look through the documents in the large briefcase in front of her and compare them with some data from her laptop. It did not escaped the attention of the younger woman, that it looked much newer than decisively more expensive than the majority of equipment used by the staff. When Mrs. Hindler slowly closed her computer after a while, the HP trademark caught the eye of the black-haired girl. If she was not mistaken, all the other laptops purchased for the orphanage employees were manufactured by Lenovo, which was a much cheaper option. But she didn't say anything, standing in front of a woman who hated her with her bag next to her leg.
In the end, after a time that would be hard for her to determine, the witch spoke again.
- She should be here any minute now - she threw it suddenly. Sit down - she said, pointing to one of the chairs in front of her.
The girl, not saying anything, sat in a designated place. Having lowered her head again, she tried not to think about what could happen in the next few moments. Unfortunately, her efforts were in vain, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't throw out of her head the images of her blonde ruining her life again, taking away what she had been waiting for for so long. It seemed comical to her that she hadn't shed a single tear for twelve years, and in the last twenty-four hours she had been close to open collapse, running away in a corner, rolling into a ball and crying, despairing. Having clenched her fists once again, she looked at her white knuckles and then heard a sound that once again stopped time for her. Three gentle blows on the witch's door. Her future protector arrived.
- Come in, come in - said the blonde loudly. Get up - she ordered, smiling venomously at the black-haired woman.
She got up instantly and barely a moment later a bitch stood by her. Akali closed her eyes, lowering her head when the door started to open, and opened it only when she heard a click indicating that it had been closed. To be honest, the teenager did not know what to expect. One look was enough to dizzy her head, and the air was ripped out of her lungs. Judging by the slow, heavy breathing she heard two steps away, Evelynn made the same impression on the blonde as on her. In front of the door was a living goddess, an angel who was somehow banished to this world of tears, there could not have been another explanation.
- Kami - black-haired girl whispered unknowingly.
- Hello, Madam, she cast lightly towards Alice and then focused her attention on the girl. You, darling, must be Akali - she said playfully. Well, I have to admit that the data I was given about you was one big lie.
The black-haired woman froze. No, that's not what's happening - her mind was screaming. Evelynn only looked at her and had to conclude that she had made a mistake. Her heart, which assumed that it might have collapsed again, had just convinced her that she was wrong. The pain that filled her physical shell was unimaginable. She spread her eyes if possible even further apart, she couldn't get a single word out of her throat, her head filled with thoughts, images, she thought it was about to explode, her eyes immediately began to accumulate moisture. One more moment and she was sure that she would not find the strength to stop these tears. A venomous, joyfully loud voice of Miss Hindler was partially pulled out of the present state.
- How glad I am, Miss Smith, that you have made up your mind. This girl is unfit for adoption and, frankly, I wouldn't want you to get into trouble - she smiled with a smile at the black-haired girl.
A teenage girl couldn't stand it. She unknowingly fell on the stone floor and hid her face in her hands, sobbing bitterly.
- Miss Hindler, I think that's your name - said Evelynn sweetly. I would ask you to keep quiet and do the work for which you are paying for here. Thanks to you, I have to collect my protege before we can leave this place and never come back here again - she said with a lot of venom in her voice.
The next thing she felt was the warmth of someone's body and strong, slender hands, which drew her to its sources. Unintentionally Akali cried for a few more moments before she gathered enough courage, opened her eyes and looked at her protector, who was kneeling beside her, hugging her and measuring her hair. A moment later, her chocolate eyes barely caught Evelynn's golden irises. The woman stared at her intensely, only strengthening her grip. After a few more seconds, the teenager finally calmed down.
- Thank you - she whispered, covering a damp face in an older woman's shoulder.
- You're welcome - she answered calmly and calmly. Apparently, my choice of words was wrong. So let me finish and explain - she whispered.
The black-haired girl nodded her head even though she didn't think Evelynn wouldn't wait for her approval.
- So, coming back to my last sentence, she started. They told me you were just a girl who had lost her family. Black-haired, athletic, smart, the problem is that it's an understatement. You are not in any way a common criterion. You are a beautiful, young woman who can achieve a lot, and based only on your apparition, you will make someone very happy one day. And I will try to help you on your way to achieving this. I'm sorry, my words could indeed have been received by you in two ways. I'm sorry I hurt you - she added in a sad voice.
- Regardless, thank you. Thank you for being here - she said, as she walked away from her protector. Do you still want to adopt me? - She asked.
- Of course - she assured her. And now we're going to wait until Miss Hindler prepares the documents for us to sign - she threw off, staring at the blonde.
An employee of the centre immediately lost her colour and started to work. Looking at the intimidated woman Akali barely refrained from smiling under her nose. A moment later, the black-haired girl turned her gaze on her protector, once again admiring her beauty. Evelynn was undoubtedly the most beautiful woman she had ever met. Each part of her body was perfect as if God had devoted His precious time to slowly create the angel sitting next to her. The woman was not much taller than her, slim, with an hourglass shape that most would kill for. Her long purple hair flowed down her straight back in shimmering cascades. She wore white high heeled shoes on her legs. Her large breasts and firm buttocks were fastened by matching, elegant raven-black trousers, a tight jacket of the same colour and a flawless white shirt she wore underneath which she could see a dark grey lace bra. The girl raised her eyes, trying to hide her embarrassment, which was her sole and exclusive fault. Her face quickly turned into a mature tomato, and to top it all off, when she detached her eyes from her perfect body, she met Evelynn's eyes. Older woman winked and said to her.
- Do you like what you see? - she asked in a sensual voice.
- I'm sorry - Akali cried out.
- You're welcome, darling - she replied. I would be surprised if my body hadn't caught your attention - she whispered as quietly as before.
The purple-haired woman smiled at her and then focused her attention on Alice, hurrying her up. Then a silent fell between them, interrupted only by the sounds of a pen scraping on the paper, keyboard tapping, and Evelynn's perfunctory comments to speed up the paperwork. Finally, after more than an hour, her protector put her last signature right under her own. Since then, they have been a family by law. Akali was not able to refrain from a wide smile when she and the goddess said goodbye to the witch in a cool way.
- How shall I call you? - black-haired girl asked the when they left the office.
- Just call me Evelynn, I don't think I'd be able to get used to being called a mother, or at least not now - she replied with a smile.
- Are you going to take care of me, Evelynn? - She asked shyly.
- Of course, no matter what it takes - she replied, winking.
