Waking up, I realized I had slept until at least noon, according to the position of the sun. The trail disappeared again, as it always does in the sunlight. I wondered where the end would be, even more curious now, with the other pull that appeared as I entered the heavy forests of Massachusettes. I figure I'll just keep going with the trail I'm already on since I've stuck with it for so long.

"Fuuuck," I groaned as I sat up. 48 hours was a long time with no sleep. "Ok, pep talk time. Unless this stupid trail wants us to go all the way to Europe, we're almost there. Just don't say anything won't happen." I knew from previous experience that proclaiming you're safe is never a good idea unless your idea of fun is being swarmed by monsters. I packed up what little stuff I had and started heading south. The farther I went, the more the other feeling that was drawing me faded, and I became more sure this was the right path.

The next two days went by in a blur. At some point, I passed into Connecticut, and, for some reason, I could feel the boundary. Once there was a silvery coated deer running in front of me, although I could have been hallucinating. It was around midnight when I reached the water.

"You've got to be fucking kidding me." The silver trail went over the water like it was no different than land.

"Ok, got to find a way across. Think, December, think." I looked toward the distant shore of what I presumed to be Long Island. "Oohh shit! Shit shit shit! Not more serpents, please not more sea serpents!" But there they were, in between me and my destination.

I was so close. My whole body was thrumming with energy, these serpents were gonna pay. I looked around desperately. These things were easily 20 feet long and, just my luck, there were two of them.

Taking stock of my supplies, "What do I have here? I've got my bow and monster arrows. Not sure if those'll get through the scales. Maybe mouth or eyes? My dagger isn't much help. Sleeping bag, food, rope, target arrows, wait a second!" I had a plan, I just hoped it would work.

I walked down the beach a ways and found a cabin in disrepair. I looked around and, sure enough, there was a little dingy with a motor attached. "Come on, give me some fuel," I complained, digging around in the garage. A flash of red caught my eye. "Aha! Please, please work," I prayed, crossing my fingers.

I hopped in the boat with the rest of my supplies. I was certifiably crazy. Oh well, no turning back now! I pushed off and barely got the motor started when I heard a screeching roar, like nails on a chalkboard at a high enough decibel to deafen anyone in a 5-mile radius.

"Oh ya tadpoles? That all you got?" I got another screech in reply. When I got to the middle of the Sound, I threw part of my food supply in the water and sped off ASAP. The snake took the bait, and also my rope trap.

"Here snaky-snaky!" I was trying to direct it to the other snake who was trying to sneak up on me. I dropped the rest of my food on the tail of my roped snake. He got bit by bad snaky number two. What ensued was an epic battle between them. Their tails were razor-sharp and one whipped me as my boat was thrown toward Long Island, capsizing.

"Is there anyone in the way?" I heard a shout from over the hill. There was an unintelligible response and then, "Fire at will!"

I managed to grab my pack and clamber onto the shoreline. Sitting down I knew I was going nuts because I saw a large ship shooting cannonballs of green fire. As if that weren't enough, I could've sworn it was burning underwater.

I was so exhausted I just wanted to stay there forever. My internal senses were pinging almost audibly and I knew I just needed to make it over the hill. I got up, then instantly fell to my knees. My adrenaline was fading fast, my ribs were throbbing, I crawled up the hill and passed out.

When I drifted into consciousness, I heard whisperings, "The Ketea?" "What are they doing in the Sound?" "I know!" "That was super impressive!" "I wonder who her parent is?" then I fell back asleep.
