Daughter of the Moon

Chapter 2 The Promise
The woods fell silent. The pack backed away from the lifeless body that laid in the open. Aiden turned away from the fallen beauty that lay dead at his feet. "The pup, we need to locate where she left her pup. She is the last of the Lunar line. I want no harm to come the child but find her and bring her to me." He said as he licked Selenes crimson blood from his claws, savoring the sweet metallic tang. "We will sweep the border and try to find her scent Aiden." Said the Alphas second in command. Aiden nodded his head in acknowledgement to his beta. "I may not have gotten my queen tonight but the child born of the full moon, she would make quite the bride for my son Demande in the years to come. She will have inherited abilities bestowed upon her by the full moon. Abilities I have only read about in books about the Lunar Pack. We cannot let her powers fall into any other packs hands." Aiden Shifted back into his wolf form and left his commanding officers in charge of locating the babe.
Miles away the young babe laid outside the door. The moon shone down on the child encasing her in a warm glow. The babe began to fuss, fussing turned into wails. The owners of the house awoke with a start. "Artemis do you hear that?" The raven haired beauty sat straight up in bed pressing her palm against her husbands shoulder. Her violet eyes locked with her husbands green. Their brows furrowed with worry. Luna and Artemis sprang from the bed following the newborn sounds to the back door. When they opened the door their eyes fell upon the small babe. Luna reached down and grabbed the babe cradling her against her chest. They looked around the yard with confusion and worry. For who would abandon a child on a doorstep with nothing. Artemis walked the yard for any sign of the stranger who left the child. Luna looked upon the babe in her arms, bright blue eyes stared back. She ran her hand through the silver locks that sprouted upon her head. Luna knew immediately with one sniff that this was a pup. "There is no one here and no sign." Artemis said approaching his wife. Luna handed the babe to her husband. The change was smooth her wolf skin feeling like home. The smell of blood hit her nostrils. A low growl passed her muzzle as she followed the scent that led her to the woods. Luna glanced back at her husband before jumping the fence and following the trail.
When she hit the clearing the smell of blood was stronger. There were other wolf scents here, and fresh tracks leading back to the border of her packs territory. Luna proceeded with caution. Her eyes scanned the clearing and the fell upon the body of a woman. Her porcelain skin was cold. Luna sniffed her body, the babes scent was on her. Shifting back to her human form she gently turned the womans body and felt her heart stop as she looked upon the fallen womans face. Her crystal blue eyes void of life. Luna recognized the Lunar packs leader immediately. Her silver locks stained crimson from the claw marks that overtook her neck.
A terrifying howl broke Luna from her trance. She took off shifting mid run into her wolf form. She barely registered the hard ground beneath her paws. She knew she needed to get back to her husband and the babe as fast as her paws could carry her. She could smell the invading wolves in the woods. They were all around her, their scents unfamiliar. She prayed that she did not run into any of them. The familiar glow of her porch light came into vision. Shifting back to her human form Luna burst into her home. She found her husband in the living room swaddling the babe up in a small blanket. "We must get to the Alphas estate immediately. The head of the Lunar pack has been assassinated." She felt her knees grow weak. Luna Collapsed in a heap on the floor. She felt her husbands arms go around her pulling her into a short embrace. "Go get dressed and we will leave immediately." Artemis said locking eyes with his wife. Luna nodded and ascended the stairs. Pulling on a sweats and a tank top as quickly as she could. She headed down stairs meeting her husband and hopping into their car.
They pulled up to the estates gates within the hour. A lone guard was there patrolling. "What are you doing here at this hour." The Guard demanded as they rolled down the window. "We need to see the alpha now, the head of the Lunar pack has been assassinated and there are unknown wolves in our territory." The gaurds eyes shot open. Springing into action he pulled out his cell phone, the guard immediately called his superiors. The gates opened and he motioned for them to pull through. The lights inside the estate began to flip on one by one. As they reached the entrance and got out of the car they were met with 10 guards surrounding them. Artemis and Luna were lead to the study where the Crimson Pack Alpha was waiting. Orders were being shouted all around them. "I want you all to scan the woods, find the intruders and bring them to me. someone send a convoy to the Lunar estate we need to find answers as to what has happened this night." Luna quivered to be in the presence of her Alpha. The strength and power he radiated was intimidating, she found herself shrinking into herself in a submissive stance. She instantly pulled the child close to her wanting to protect her from this night, from all the bad events that had taken place. To be so small and to have lost everything in one night. Lunas heart was breaking for the babe.
The Alphas eyes focused in on the child that was cradled in Lunas arms. "This pup, I believe to be of Selene and Apollo. She was left at our door step. I traced the scent that was on the babe back to Selenes body, her throat had been slashed. They left her body in the clearing." Lunas eyes filled with tears as she remembered the lifeless body. She handed the babe to her Alpha. The babe was so small in his large hands. His dark blue eyes met her crystal blue. "Damien what will become of the child?" Artemis inquired. "Daddy what's going on?" A small voice broke through. All eyes turned and fell upon a small dark haired boy that was peeking through the study door. The small boy walked through door rubbing sleep from his eyes and made his way to stand by his fathers side. The boy was no more than 6 years of age. "Endy, everything is fine, go ahead and go climb back into bed my son." Damien said looking down at his boy. "Who's that?" The boy questioned, noticing the baby in his fathers hands. "This is a new pup brought into the world, it's my duty as Alpha to see all the new members of the pack." Damien said quickly. His eyes met Lunas and Artemis. "These are her parents." He said with a questioning look in his eyes. Without hesitation Luna responded by taking the babe from her Alphas arms and kneeling down to the young wolfs level. "This is Serenity." She said holding the babe closer for the child to get a better look. Endymions dark blue eyes locked with the babes crystal blue. The babe reached out towards him cooing. Endy looked upon her suddenly uninterested, all the fuss for a baby he thought. He rolled his eyes and yawned. "Im going back to bed." The young child said as he turned and left the study.
"Luna, I want you and your mate to take this child in. Raise her to be one of the crimson pack, however do not tell her of her origin, I fear this child will be in grave danger if her true identity was ever revealed. I want you and Artemis to move closer to our estate so that the pack can better protect you." Luna was taken back by her Alphas words. Their home was located towards the edge of the Crimsons territory. They were not of high status in the pack. To be moved closer to the estate was an honor that not many wolves would have. Without a doubt Luna felt a strong maternal bond towards the child, she would love and protect this babe with her life. She had mated with a human so any hope of children were abandoned the moment her and Artemis locked eyes and the mating bond was in place. The mating bound was eternal for wolves mated for life. No wolf had been known to fight the pull of the calling. There are no words to describe what happens to a wolf when under its influence. Primal instincts take over, senses are heightened and the desire to find a mate is unbearable. Lunas calling led her to Artemis, a human that worked at the estate. The moment they locked eyes it was over, the need for him took over her whole being. Luna marked Artemis that day by biting him on the neck for all to see, she had claimed him as hers. Though she was the happiest she had ever been deep down she knew that the life they lead would only be just them two. No prospects of children, for babes could not be born between the races. Though the years had passed and she was happy in the life they lived the urge to be a mother never slipped her soul.
Before Luna could answer Damien a guard burst into the room. "My Alpha the Lunar estate is in shambles, Apollo is dead, there are no survivors….It was a blood bath." The guard said with sadness. Luna looked to her Alpha. "We will raise this child as our own, she will not know of her heritage till you deem it necessary. This I Promise to you my Alpha."
