Authors Note: Thank you for reading my story! I have a plan in place for the entire story, which I hope you'll all like. The first few years will be covered, however the real story begins in Year 4, so I will only be spending a few chapters on each of the first few years and will then go more in depth with longer chapters and more chapters per year from Year 4. Thank you and enjoy!

Chapter 1.

Magnolia Potter woke up to her Aunt's shrill voice and her knuckles rapping on the door to the cupboard under the stairs that was used for her and her brother's bedroom. Her brother, Harry, stirred awake beside her before looking over to her and rolling his eyes. They both knew what today was. They both knew and both dreaded this day every year. Today was their cousin's birthday, which meant that they would be sent to Mrs Figg's house for the day whilst the Dursley's went for a fun day out.

Not spending the day with the Dursley's wasn't the bad bit. The bad bit was spending the day with crazy old Mrs Figg. Magnolia didn't mind too much, she liked cats, but Mrs Figg's house smelt and she spent the entire time making the twins look through the same photos of all her cats that she always did. Magnolia ducked out of the cupboard and walked into the kitchen after Harry.

"Get a move on, I want you to look after the bacon." Aunt Petunia ordered, "And try not to let her burn anything again."

Magnolia rolled her eyes; she'd only burnt breakfast once and she'd never been allowed to forget it. Luckily, Harry usually took over the cooking whilst Magnolia cleaned up around him. She'd learnt very early on that the Dursley's did not abide by a messy house. The Dursley's didn't abide by a messy anything really, that was why Magnolia's long, curly red hair was always pulled back into a plait. Unfortunately, her brother was not as lucky, and his messy hair had been subject to their Aunt's horrendous cutting on many occasions.

Whilst Harry was flipping the bacon, their Uncle Vernon walked in, casting a disapproving glare towards the twins as usual and waited for his son to appear. It wasn't long before Magnolia heard the thuds coming down the stairs that signalled her cousins arrival. Dudley's large body walked through the door into the kitchen, his small eyes looking around for the giant pile of presents that were waiting for him.

"Thirty-six."

Dudley whined as Harry dished up the bacon and eggs and Magnolia served the Dursley's. Her and Harry hadn't received thirty-six presents between them through their entire lives, but Dudley was whining until his mother gave in and promised to buy him two more presents at the zoo later that day.

Magnolia was in the middle of washing up when Aunt Petunia left the room to answer the phone and came back in looking like her day had been ruined.

"Bad news, Vernon. Mrs Figg has broken her leg. She can't take them."

The twins paused and shared a glance as the listened to their Aunt and Uncle's back and forth trying to work out where they would be put for the day. Magnolia hoped they'd be allowed to stay at the house. She could sit outside and enjoy the sun on her aunt's comfortable sun bed and maybe even read one of her aunts' magazines.

Half an hour later, Magnolia and Harry were stood outside Number 4 watching Aunt Petunia, Dudley and his friend climb into Uncle Vernon's car. Magnolia wasn't entirely sure how they had gotten here. They'd never been allowed to go on an outing with the Dursley's before. Neither of them had ever set foot in a zoo, and here they were getting ready for their first trip.

"Now you two, I don't want any funny business today, do you hear me?"

Magnolia nodded at her Uncle; she knew better then to say anything. Her Uncle Vernon often picked up on the tones in her voice and always found a way to punish her for them. She couldn't help it; she was naturally sarcastic and could never hide her feelings in her voice. She often wondered if it was a trait she had inherited from her parents.

The twins couldn't explain why the strange things that often happened around them happened, and no matter how many times they tried to explain their innocence to their aunt and uncle they were never believed. Magnolia didn't want things to happen out of her control, and although they often did, she tried to rationalise them away.

In the car, Magnolia thought about the day ahead until Harry mentioned the dream he had had the night before. Magnolia shot Harry a glance, why would he bring up a flying motorbike? He knows the Dursley's feelings on anything that didn't act like it was supposed to act. And those feelings were not positive ones. Magnolia hit Harry's leg and he sent her an apologetic look in response. They never got days out, they had to be extra careful not to ruin anything.

That afternoon, after having lunch at the zoo that had included Magnolia and Harry sharing a knicker blocker glory that Dudley hadn't finished due to its small size, the group were in the reptile house. Magnolia and Harry made sure to walk away behind the Dursley's to look at the animals and saw Uncle Vernon knocking his fat knuckles on one of the glass fronts.

Magnolia glared at her Uncle as him and her cousin walked away from the 'boring' snake and followed her twin to look into the exhibit. Inside was a massive snake that looked like it was sleeping, until it opened its eyes and winked at Magnolia and Harry. Magnolia took a shocked step back; snakes don't wink. Snakes certainly don't wink at people. The excitement had obviously gone to her head but looking at Harry's face Magnolia understood that Harry had seen the same thing.

"Mags, did you see that?" Harry asked slowly.

The twins looked back at the snake that was watching them and jerked its head towards Uncle Vernon, Dudley and his friend. Magnolia thought it looked almost like the snake was communicating with them.

"I know." Harry said, speaking to the snake. "It must be really annoying."

Magnolia looked at her brother shocked. What the hell was he thinking, talking to a snake like a crazy person. At least, that's what Magnolia thought until the snake nodded. Magnolia grasped her brother's arm, who quickly glanced at her and put his hand on top of hers comfortingly as he continued to talk to the snake.

"DUDLEY!"

Dudley's friends voice rang out across the reptile house and he and Dudley ran across the room to see the snake that now had sat up during the conversation with Harry. In a bid to get as close to the glass as possible, Dudley roughly pushed Magnolia out of the way sending her tumbling to the floor and landing awkwardly on her wrist. Harry rushed to her side, glaring at Dudley and his friend who both had their noises pressed against the glass.

Magnolia glanced at her throbbing wrist until she heard Harry's shocked gasp. She looked back up in time to see her cousin and his friend fall over the partition into the snake's tank, right through the space where glass once stood but had now disappeared. Magnolia cowered as the snake slithered out of the tank and past her and Harry, pausing to wink at the pair.

The rest of the day had been tense, Magnolia was waiting for the inevitable explosion of rage from her Uncle. He had been getting progressively redder as each second went on. The silence in the car on the way back to Privet Drive had been fraught with tension, broken only by Dudley's low whimpering.

Magnolia and Harry had tried to explain that they weren't even near the glass when it had disappeared, but their case hadn't been helped when Dudley's friend announced that he'd seen Harry talking to the serpent. Magnolia cringed at the thought of what Uncle Vernon had in store for them, and as soon as they were home and Dudley's friend had left, Vernon grasped her by the arm along with her brother and pushed them towards the cupboard under the stairs, unable to even speak.

That night, as her brother stayed awake waiting for the Dursleys to go to sleep so they could get some food, Magnolia dreamt of snakes talking, a strange man holding her and a flash of green light.

Weeks later, Magnolia and Harry had become even skinnier than usual following their extended punishment following the Zoo incident. They had finally been allowed to join the Dursley's for breakfast, or at least they'd been allowed to make the breakfast for the Dursleys. Magnolia was washing the dishes when the post arrived, and Harry left the kitchen to retrieve it for Uncle Vernon.

Magnolia watched her brother walk back in the kitchen and drop a few letters on the table in front of their Uncle, whilst looking down at two more letters in his hand. Harry made his way to his sister and handed her one of the envelopes. Magnolia looked down at the letter in her hand, the fancy parchment confusing her but less so then the words written in emerald ink.

Miss M. Potter

The Cupboard Under The Stairs

4 Privet Drive

Little Whinging

Surrey

"Dad! Dad, Harry and Magnolia have got something!"

Before she'd had time to open the envelope, it was wrenched away from her by her cousin's fat hand. Dudley handed the letters to Uncle Vernon who glanced at it before all the blood drained from his face. Aunt Petunia looked over Uncle Vernon's shoulder and her face dropped.

"Hey! Give me my letter!" Magnolia tried to reach for the letter but missed as Uncle Vernon quickly moved it out the way.

"I want to read my letter!"

"Get out. All of you." Uncle Vernon's voice was quiet as he spoke.

"No!"

"No way!"

The twins responded simultaneously. They'd never received post and they were definitely not letting Uncle Vernon hide their letters from them now.

"OUT!" Aunt Petunia's shrill voice shouted.

The three children slowly left the kitchen and closed the door behind them, only to fight over who got to listen through the door. Magnolia couldn't hear through the door due to Dudley's massive body taking up most of the room, so instead she paced up and down the hallway, wondering who could have possibly sent her and Harry a letter and how they knew they slept in the cupboard under the stairs.

That night Magnolia sat on a bed in Dudley's second bedroom opposite Harry, well her and Harry's bedroom now. Uncle Vernon had come home from work that night and insisted they both move to the smallest bedroom and had informed them that he had burnt the letters. Dudley had not been happy about that, he had thrown such a fit that he was sick, but Magnolia's uncle had held firm to his decision and so the twins moved into the bedroom.

The following day, and each day after that, when the post arrived it came with two letters addressed to Magnolia and Harry. Each day, Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon seemed to become more and more unravelled until on Sunday when letters flew through the kitchen chimney and the post box and Uncle Vernon lost his mind completely. Holding the twins away from the letters that were flying around them constantly, Uncle Vernon screamed that they were leaving the house and getting away, far away where the letters wouldn't reach them.

A few days later, Magnolia slept next Harry on the cold hard floor of the shack her Uncle had found for them to stay in. The wind whipped the rain outside and the waves crashed around them against the rocks the shack was perched on.

BOOM.

Magnolia jerked awake at the sudden noise as Harry reached out to pull her closer to him.

BOOM.

The noise hit again, startling Dudley awake as Magnolia's aunt and uncle came down the stairs.

SMASH.

Magnolia and Harry jumped up as the door fell to the floor and a giant man stood in the doorway. He pushed his way through the small shack towards to sofa Dudley had been sleeping on. Magnolia shuffled backwards away from the bushy haired man as Dudley ran to his mother in fear.

"Ah, there ya are! Las' time I saw you two, you were only babies!"

The giant man spoke to Harry and Magnolia who just stared back, wondering how this man had met them before. If they were only babies, maybe he had known her parents.

"You both look so much like yeh parents- Harry with yeh dad's hair and yeh mum's eyes. Maggie, it's like I'm lookin' at Lily again, except your eyes, seems you got yeh dad's eyes huh."

That seemed to break Uncle Vernon out of his shocked state as he demanded the giant man leave. He didn't leave though. Instead he introduced himself to Magnolia and Harry as Rubeus Hagrid and gave them a squashed birthday cake.

"I'm Keeper of the Keys at Hogwarts, you'll know all about Hogwarts o' course."

Magnolia looked at Harry unsure, she'd never heard of Hogwarts before and she was sure her brother hadn't either.

"Er, no." Harry responded.

"Sorry." Magnolia added quickly as Hagrid looked shocked.

"Sorry? It's them that should be sorry!" Hagrid replied, pointing his pink umbrella at the Dursley's. "I knew yeh weren't getting' yeh letters, but not knowin' abou' Hogwarts at all!? Did yeh never wonder where yeh parents learnt it all?"

Magnolia was lost. What was Hogwarts, and what did her parents learn? Hagrid had turned on the Dursley's now, growling at them as he spoke.

"Do you mean to tell me, that these kids no nothin' about… about anythin'?"

"Hey!"

"We know stuff!"

The twins replied at the same time, both affronted at what Hagrid was saying. Magnolia had been a good student, she enjoyed learning and she had big plans for her future to get her away from the Dursley's as soon as she was able. Hagrid had turned back to them now; he was softer as he spoke to them.

"Wha' do you know abou' our world? Your world, my world. Yeh parents' world? Surely yeh must know about yeh mum and dad?"

"Stop!" Bellowed Uncle Vernon.

Magnolia looked over to her uncle, who was practically purple, and looked furious but more then that. He looked terrified. Whatever this man was talking about was something Uncle Vernon was scared of.

"What are you talking about?" Magnolia asked Hagrid, "Our parents died when we were babies in a car crash."

"A car- a car crash!?" Hagrid spluttered. "How could a car crash kill Lily an' James Potter? It's an outrage! The Potter twins deserve to know their true story, how can they no' when practically every kid in their world know it!?"

"Story?"

"Well, I s'pose if I'm gonna fill yeh in on yeh story, yeh need to know the big thing."

Magnolia and Harry glanced at each other, confused.

"Harry, Magnolia… yeh wizards."

Magnolia scoffed, wizards of course. This man was crazy. Certifiably crazy. Although, a lot of crazy things happened around the twins. That was true. Magnolia supposed that magic did make those things make sense when nothing else had. Hagrid was now handing the twins a letter each, identical to the ones their Uncle had tried so desperately to get them away from. Magnolia ripped into hers immediately.

"What does it mean, they await my owl?" Harry asked as Magnolia finished reading her letter for the second time.

A magic school. A school of witchcraft and wizardry. Witchcraft. Magic. Magnolia smiled, maybe she wasn't a freak like she'd been told at school after all. She was just special. She was a witch.
